  1. QUOTE (bmags @ May 4, 2017 -> 11:06 AM) I can't say that I remember a lot about the 02-03 season but I thought Williams looked like a bust. He had that really nice triple double game but couldn't shoot. yeah, blech, under 40% from the field. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/willija03.html Williams started coming into his own in the 2nd half of the season. Was terrible in 1st half though.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) I know the Rose injury gets a lot of attention as being franchise changing, but the Jay Williams injury isn't talked about enough. Not only did it cost them a #1 draft pick potentially coming into his own, I will swear to this day it pushed the team to select Hinrich to replace him after Wade went off of the board in front of them, and everything kind of fell into place after that. Yep. Having a core of Jay Williams/Dwyane Wade/Jamal Crawford/Eddy Curry/Tyson Chandler would have been nice at the time.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ May 4, 2017 -> 10:10 AM) I would not have guessed Holmberg up before Luebke. Luebke isn't ready. He was in extended spring.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ May 4, 2017 -> 09:29 AM) I've said it before and I've said it again but I firmly believe Krause was actually on verge of a very solid turnaround that Paxson got to ride the wave on. He really did acquire a crapton of assets that Paxson flipped into a bunch of those knicks picks and really only landed on Deng. Would really love to know if Krause would have been able to acquire Wade in 03 at the draft. Crawford/Wade/Chandler...then you have to get into alternative history where we still make the knicks trades... but potential for crawford/wade/deng/chandler core. Jay Williams was really good too. When Krause left they had Jay Williams, Curry, Chandler, and Crawford.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 4, 2017 -> 07:52 AM) I think the reason the media thought the Sox got the best of that deal was because the media was behind about Giolito . The Nats and the Sox were both fully aware of his struggles. Since the Sox clearly trust their pitching coaches to fix problems they couldn't pass up 3 highly thought of pitchers even if the ranking of Giolito versus the reality of him misled many at 1st. I think it's because for some reason, Adam Eaton is criminally underrated. Something like that was always the price for Eaton and some even thought it wasn't enough.
  6. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ May 3, 2017 -> 09:23 PM) Paxson has been here for 14 years, Gar was hired around Tim Floyd Era but came into power in 2007/2008ish. If anyone thinks the Bulls will eventually get it right while Jerry (and now especially Michael who is best friends with Gar) is running the team, they're out of their damn mind. Paxson took over as GM in 2003. He has hired 5 coaches and they have won 5 playoff series. They've actually only won 5 playoff series since 98. Their drafting has also fallen off the cliff since Matt Lloyd left the organization. The Bulls have fewer scouts than most teams and a semblance of an analytics department. Paxson basically took the reigns back yesterday and I'd rather have him in power than Gar but it's still just meh. I do think there's a solid chance that Pax trades Butler at the draft though and restarts the franchise.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ May 3, 2017 -> 12:04 PM) Though not a fred fan, they make it impossible to not side with any bulls coaches with how incredibly combative and openly critical they are. Like how every manager with a bad bullpen looks terrible, fred looks a lot worse when he has to plug and play 5 guards that have no business in NBA. Maybe a little harsh on grant, but not far off. They've made Fred Hoiberg a sympathetic figure. They want their young guys to play but their young guys all blow. They also want to make the playoffs while playing the s***ty young guys. They complain that it's hard to make a dramatic changes and then they say that help isn't coming because of where they pick in the draft. They choose that though. You are choosing to have the 16th pick every year. Nothing is changing until they stop making money. As long as fans continue to fill that place every night, this is what will happen. Bulls fans are getting everything they've asked for. They've shown over the years that the current "plan" is absolutely 100% good enough.
  8. Pretty good piece By Emily Kaplan here: http://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2017/05/02/nfl-chi...-2017-nfl-draft
  9. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:44 PM) I, too am trying to talk myself off the ledge of this potentially setting the Bears back another 5 years on top of the original 5. How are they set back 5 years? They aren't very good and might struggle on offense but they'll have a top 10 unit on defense. Jaye Howard would be a solid addition to an already good front 7. They have 4 new starters in the secondary. If Trubisky is good, this can turn around fast actually.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ May 1, 2017 -> 10:41 AM) Can someone clarify something for me. The Peter King article at different point mentions the bears trading a 2017 3rd and 4th and a 2018 Fourth, then later in the article says its a 2017 3rd and 4th and a 2018 4th. I've seen multiple "bears basically traded a 3rd rounder after they recouped their picks trading down". What is accurate? They traded 2017 1st, 3rd, and 4th and 2018 3rd rounder for #2. Then when they traded down later, they acquired a 4th rounder in 2018. Next year's picks: 1st, 2nd, 4th, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th.
  11. I actually like all of the picks. They didn't have enough of them though which happens when you trade up for a QB. They did sign 3 UDFA's that could make the team though. I don't understand the national narrative that says Pace will get fired though. He had a great draft last year. Taking the QB this high buys him more time. Pace absolutely gets a 2nd head coach while in Chicago. If Trubisky is terrible, Pace will end up getting fired but we are like 3-4 years from that IMO.
  12. Apparently Nick Hostetler followed some White Sox picks on twitter pre-draft last year including Collins and Burdi. These are the guys in MLB.com's top 100 that he follows currently: #5 Mckenzie Gore LHP HS #8 Pavin Smith 1B Virginia #9 Austin Beck OF HS #12 Shane Baz RHP HS #14 Adam Haseley OF Virginia #16 Jake Burger 1B/3B #19 Alex Lange RHP LSU #20 Seth Romero LHP Houston #21 Logan Warmoth SS UNC #26 Keston Hiura 2B UC IRvine #27 Wil Crowe RHP SC #30 Evan White 1B kentucky #40 Chris Seise SS HS #48 Clarke Schmidt RHP SC #49 Brent Rooker MIssissippi State #52 Tristan Beck RHP Stanford #79 Taylor Walls SS Florida State #85 TYler Johnson RHP HS
  13. People are going nuts about Bears. It's quite absurd. They might have a franchise QB finally and everyone is freaking out.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 10:06 AM) Then I have zero hope of acquiring a 3rd at this point unless we move back into the 3rd round. They could do it. They could get a 3rd for 10-12 spots. It's a different draft. And compensatory picks can be traded.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 09:07 AM) I think it's possible where they are at, will just require a big leap. Luckily they are in that position where a team who has a first round grade on someone may be ambitious to get them. But last year they moved back like 12 spots and got 2 4ths and a 5th. I think that is a more likely trade. They moved back 25 spots and acquired 3 4th's actually. And still got Cody Whitehair.
  16. I love it. Trubisky wasn't my top QB but Pace put his nuts on the table. I wanted them to have conviction and take the QB that they liked best. This is where franchise QB's are taken. They were getting offers for the 3rd pick for a QB, so they jumped up a spot and got him. They'll recoup picks tonight but that's not the point. He isn't being safe. I loved his comments last night at the press conference about being aggressive. In order to win consistently you need a long-term answer at QB. If Trubisky hits, nobody will care what the cost was. If it doesn't, Pace will probably get fired. It definitely buys him some time though. Personally, I'm glad he had the balls to do it.
  17. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 01:56 PM) Its official that Baseball Tonight is a weekly show? Yes. The last time I watched Baseball Tonight, Jim Bowden told me that Chris Sale was traded to Washington for Victor Robles, Lucas Giolito, and 2 low level minor leaguers. The next day, he was traded to Boston.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) Yeah it's pretty concerning. >30% in AAA right now, and it's likely to be higher in the MLB. He's not ready to come up yet. No he's not. People that hate strikeouts won't like Moncada very much though because he's going to K a lot in the bigs too.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 12:27 PM) I don't like the reports that the Bears have literally spent zero time with Trubisky. Just doesn't make sense to me. We don't have a franchise QB, we should maximize time with everyone. I recognize the whole "gamesmanship" that goes on with the draft, but darn it...we should leave no stone unturned when it comes to QB (especially a guy who easily could be the 1st QB drafted). Trubisky told Dan Patrick 2 weeks ago that the Bears worked him out. He told Biggs yesterday he didn't visit or workout. So strange.
  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 10:11 AM) Great minds...... I think Adams is going 2 actually. I can't justify taking a non-elite S that high.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) Didn't you say Watson a couple days ago? I did. I put Watson in my official mock draft too. Things change though. People I talk to don't think that happens currently.
  22. Moncada could actually come up on May 15th and still be under control for 7 seasons. He'd probably qualify for Super 2 Status though.
  23. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 10:05 AM) I sticking with Adams or Lattimore. (Then a trade up into the latter part of the first round to grab one of the QBs.) The second part is wishful thinking. I think the QB part is very possible. I'll be pretty surprised if they take a DB that high though.
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 09:50 AM) Don't post the whole list, selected excerpts is okay. You can put the whole list, you just have to type it out.
  25. I think the Bears end up with Solomon Thomas. He's my favorite player in the class but I think they'd love to move down.
