QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 07:51 AM) How is Benetti good at his job? I don't consider the same corny jokes over and over again and Sox math to make him "good". He's a professional broadcaster that is well versed in multiple sports and went to school for his craft. He is inherently more qualified than the current version of Hawk. Now if Hawk were the analyst, that'd be different. I grew up with Hawk like everyone else did. He takes over broadcasts though and minimizes Steve Stone. The Hawk schtick has run its course as far as the broadcast is concerned. The home games sound like a modern baseball broadcast. The road games are two guys doing separate games because of their dislike for working with the other on most nights.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 02:32 PM) So Alford can't be believed but the lawyer for the victim is a neutral source? And, unfortunately, many innocent people agree to plea deals. Alford was lied to. He believed his player. You can't fault him for that. The only thing that killed Alford in Iowa wasn't that the kid did this, he basically did it again. If he didn't have the second problem, he still may be coaching the Hawkeyes. Dan Bernstein, the guy who talks about female sport's reporters chest sizes as the moral police is a bit rich. How about this source? There are others as well: http://www.espn.com/espnw/news-commentary/...-rooted-reality -
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Mar 18, 2017 -> 12:45 AM) Most baseball fans in Chicago who dislike or even hate Hawk are Cubs fans, and that is the way it has always been. I hope the Sox find another play-by-play announcer who is as talented as Hawk, someone whose love of the sport and enthusiasm for the team and the players is apparent in what he says and how he says it. Meanwhile Bennetti was announcing a basketball game yesterday. Nice kid, but kind of creepy and way too candy@ss for most Southsiders. We need another alpha male to take Hawk's place when he decides to retire and a color commentator that makes fans laugh and enjoy watching the broadcast. Bennetti and Stone try to come off like baseball's version of the Smother's Brothers. It just doesn't work. They have an announcer that's more talented than Hawk already. His name is Jason Benetti. Is creepy and candy ass referring to his cerebral palsy?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 18, 2017 -> 01:01 AM) How can anybody who professes to be a Sox fan criticize Hawk Harrelson?? He is an icon and I want him in the booth. HOWEVER I can see why he isn't up for the rebuild. Only doing road games is ridiculous. All the Sox do on the road is lose, lose, lose. And Hawk's schtick is being a homer. Doing road games only was Hawk's choice though.....

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 02:05 PM) Knowing Alford semi-personally, he was a very trusting guy. Still to this day I fully believe that the kid fed him a line of BS, and he bought it, and stuck up for him. He would have also done it for the last guy on the roster. I personally saw him do it for other kids. He really buys into the father figure thing. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2013/04/03/ber...-lying-at-ucla/ -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) If Gar/Pax uses this injury as the reason the Bulls missed the playoffs, everyone should cancel their season tickets. They will. And the fans will still pack the place. It's really two fan bases though. The people who have shown up at games since 1998 that treat each game as a separate entity, and the actual fans that call the radio and post on message boards in anger about the direction of the team. Their business model is fantastic.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 12:10 PM) Eh, maybe slightly more. But Q's value should be nearly identical to Sale. The Yankees probably wouldn't do that but I think a package like the one I proposed is fair for a player of Q's caliber. Q is very good. His value will never be as high as Sale's though. If Hahn is holding out for Austin Meadows or Gleyber Torres, then Q will never be in New York or Pittsburgh. -

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) Rutherford headlined deals are insane in my opinion Look at what we got for Sale and Eaton and to think we'd cave on Quintana is nuts With all eyes on him he shut down the stacked USA lineup at the WBC and looked in midseason form I don't believe that's caving. By the time the deadline gets here, Rutherford will be seen as a legit headliner. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 10:06 AM) Torres, Rutherford, Andujar, and Tate. I think that's fair. That's considerably more than the Sox got for Sale in my opinion. -
Do we want Jo Adell in this scenario? SS Brady McConnell?

https://theathletic.com/36841/2017/03/16/sh...st-the-process/ That's excellent about the Bulls. They are just so behind the times in every area. Pretty scathing look at the ineptitude of Bulls front office.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 09:22 AM) Pirates = no Meadows, no deal Yankees = No Torres, no deal Astros = No Martes + Tucker, no deal Torres and Meadows aren't being moved. The fact that it's March 16th and this still needs to be stated is insane to me. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 11:15 AM) But dat ass. Oh yeah. She's a smokeshow for sure. She's nowhere near as good as Cara, Camila, or Laurel though.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 09:51 AM) This feels too light for me. Rutherford is nice and all but I think he's too much of a wildcard at this point in time to be the main prospect in a deal. I think if something like that is too light, Quintana is never being traded. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 08:54 AM) They were all like, "Yeah, that makes sense." Bahahaha It's ironic how this season has an Ashley who is so nasty and an Ashley that is so hot. Ashley that lost shouldn't really be with the champions though. She won her only season of The Challenge because she was on a team with Zach and Frank.

Bananas is the best man. He just continually does these things and it always works. I couldn't believe they let him do that last night.

All the players that are out of options makes this interesting. 1. T. Anderson SS 2. J. Abreu 1B 3. M.Cabrera LF 4. T. Frazier 3B 5. M. Davidson 3B 6. A. Garcia RF 7. T. Saladino 2B 8. O. Narvaez C 9. P. Bourjos CF Bench C G. Soto INF Y. Sanchez U L. Garcia OF R. Liriano Starters 1. J. Quintana 2. C. Rodon 3. J. Shields 4. M. Gonzalez 5. D. Holland Bullpen D. Robertson N. Jones J. Petricka Z. Putnam D. Jennings D. Covey M. Ynoa I think Davidson, Sanchez, L. Garcia, and M. Ynoa are roster locks because they are all out of options. Covey stays as a rule 5 guy. I've seen speculation from some (including Scott Merkin) about Jacob May being the CF but then Bourjos would be gone entirely in my opinion. No 2nd Lefty in the pen (not that it matters). I put Rymer on the roster because he's out of options but Iw couldn't be stunned to see him gone and Asche making it with the LHB.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) I have a feeling we will be seeing May in CF on Opening Day. I doubt it. I think Bourjos is CF, Garcia in RF, Melky in LF. Leury, Soto, Sanchez, and 1 of Liriano or Asche as final bench piece.

I'd take Rutherford, Mateo, Andujar, and Kapreilian in a heartbeat but I don't think New York would do that. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 12:07 AM) This thread is a perfect example of why the mods have to be concerned about the tone of this board this season. It seems to me every thread is going to turn into a "good, now we can move this guy" if a player does well; a player such as Saladino. There will be very annoying game threads with the posters wanting us to lose every game. Far be it from me to tell u how to run a message board. I know people get sick of me repeating themes such as Hillary sucks, Bernie baby, I want to win every game, the draftniks are ridiculous, etc. But Saladino is a very very very good hitter and I think a big leaguer. So if he makes the team and does well every thread is gonna be, "GOOD NOW WE CAN MOVE HIM." I implore the rebuildniks to calm down and re-assess their posts. Is this board really going to be calling for Frazier to be traded every time he hits a home run rather than celebrating the home run and possible victory? Me says YES. Don't like it. Yes Greg. The best thing for this franchise moving forward is to lose a s***load of baseball games this year. Rick Hahn wants to lose 100 games. So does Kenny Williams. It's the whole point of doing this.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 07:55 PM) Tyler Saladino isn't going anywhere. Why not? I don't it's farfetched that he could be moved. He's a 27 year old utility guy.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) That's not what GMs said at the deadline based on the prices they paid for elite relievers. Front offices are starting to realize these guys provide much more value their volume-based WAR would suggest. Not all runs/outs are created equal and high leverage ones should be valued accordingly. And pointing out that these guys only get 60 -70 innings a year is completely ignoring their potential use as weapons in the post-season. I feel pretty confident in saying that with even one dominant major league season, Burdi would be able to net a haul that included at least two top 100 pieces. If such a player isn't considered a back-end top 100 prospect, then something is wrong with the ranking process IMO. What you're describing is exactly why I value relievers the way I do. Create relievers that are failed starters. Let them thrive. Trade them for prospects. Rinse and repeat process. They are valuable but definite relievers will never be on top 100 lists, regardless of how they're used in playoff series'.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) I'll keep shouting this, but it's an absolute sin that Burdi doesn't make the cut on these lists IMO. I'll give Fangraphs credit for having him in the "under consideration", but the dude is going to be a high leverage reliever in the majors. If we saw how teams valued those type of relievers at the trade deadline, I think it's time we finally reassess how treat them in minor league rankings. I don't. Guys with 60-70 IP per year just aren't as valuable as starters and position players.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 12:24 PM) Not high on Frazier myself. I'm hoping for something along the lines of Torres/Rutherford/Montgomery/Fowler for Q. I really don't think asking for two highly ranked A ball players is asking too much as a headliner in a trade for Q. No chance Torres goes anywhere IMO.
