QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) SSK, what would you think about a deal with the Pirates that was Glasnow, Bell, Keller and Hayes? You don't get the position headliner, but you get 3 position players that would all be in the top 5 position players in the Sox system immediately. I doubt that deal is on the table, but if I'm Hahn, that's a deal I'd jump at. I guess my point here is that the Sox don't need a position player as a headliner, but they do need the majority of the return to be position players, and position players that are top 150 or so prospects. Those are 3 top 50 prospects, and another org top 6 that is top 100 for some publications. There is zero chance that Pittsburgh would trade all of that.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 10:24 AM) Then why would Hahn still be talking with Huntington if he was insistent on not moving Meadows? It sounds like Meadows is a must for the Sox. I'm not sure that he is talking with Huntington.

QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) Took the words right out of my brain. Nice Job Buehrlesque. From the Sox perspective, they have to get that stud position player in THIS DEAL. Q is their last major trade chip. They can't trade it for more right handed pitching. We have enough of that. Ideally, the Q package only includes position players, or 1 pitcher in a 4-for-1 deal. That's fine. It's not going to be Pittsburgh though. I still think Yankees and Astros most likely.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 09:20 AM) If Meadows is off the table entirely, I don't think the teams would still be talking. I don't buy it. Buy whatever you'd like. Meadows isn't an option. If he were, the deal would have been consummated. I feel like we did this same thing with Trea Turner and Alex Bregman. Not happening.
-
QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 09:20 AM) Nothing to see here then about Q to Pirates then. Move along. Exactly. If Hahn is still insisting on Austin Meadows, then there is no deal with Pittsburgh. The next 7 seasons of Meadows could be more valuable to them than the next 4 years of Quintana. Some Sox fans are failing to understand that. The Pirates aren't trading Meadows. They will trade McCutchen at midseason and plug in Meadows. This is how that team is forced to operate. Quintana doesn't push them past the Cubs. Pirates are probably willing to trade Glasnow, Keller, Newman possibly. Hahn insisting on Meadows is probably why a deal isn't done and not getting done in the future either.

The Pirates aren't trading Austin Meadows. He's their McCutchen replacement. Amazing that this still needs to be said.

QUOTE (OklahomaBrave @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) Braves fan here- From all that I've seen and heard Acuna and Maitan are the two least likely prospects to be traded. Maybe that makes a deal impossible, not sure. I'd guess they are offering something like Albies, Soroka/Newcomb, Riley, lottery ticket. Maybe the Sox like Blair or Wisler and want one as a 3/4/5 piece. If I was another team I'd want to take an opportunity to specifically buy low on Blair. My Braves source from earlier in season said talks centered on Albies, Newcomb, and Gohara coming to Sox. Sox asked for Maitan and Braves balked. Braves also said no to Acuna which is why there hasn't been a deal and won't be with Braves most likely.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 11:48 PM) This board is like America ... changing. So many people want cookie cutter announcers now and actually think Hawk is lousy. My gawd. Hawk does not speak in an annoying announcer voice. Same with Stoney. He is not a plastic announcer. He's real. I must admit I thought Benetti did a nice job last year and had a good rapport with Stone. Sox did a good job of picking Benetti who doesn't seem to be a corporate tool either. So in a nutshell, we've got people on this board wanting the Sox to lose every game. Check. We've got people who do not want to see our best prospects for a long long time on the big league team lest they be "rushed" and "flop like Beckham did." Check. Sad state of affairs. Give me Hawk. Give me rebuilds like the Yankees (spend spend spend and never be lousy!) Give me winning baseball not the crap the Sox have spewed out there in the Robin era. I don't want Hawk to announce games anymore. I hope the Sox lose 100 games. I don't want to see Moncada, Giolito, Fulmer, or Lopez until late May at the earliest. I think your post is about me haha.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 02:45 PM) Martes and Tucker and after that I would love: One of: Franklin Perez Ramon Laureano Garrett Stubbs One of: Daz Cameron Jason Martin Miguelangel Sierra I doubt they get 3 top 100 guys. 2 Top 100. Another org top 10. Upside flyer.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 08:18 AM) I was saying if they view him as a 1B and possibly view Beer as an unathletic 1B it could. No it won't. The roster of the ml team and current system has no bearing on who gets taken with a 1st round pick. You always take the BPA.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 07:49 PM) I mean I always go back to the 93-94 season they won 55 games and made it to conference semis and took Knicks to 7 games. I also think looking back he did about exactly what you'd want to do when rebuilding except he had the unfortunate position of historically terrible drafts. He got a ton of talent and assets on that team just sold them at wrong time. I appreciate the foresight that he had though. Floyd was a terrible hire. In Jonthan Abrams book called " Boys Among Men" about the HS generation of athletes going to NBA, there are very detailed stories about Krause. After the 5th title, Krause had a deal to trade Pippen. He loved Tracy McGrady and I guess McGrady even thought he was heading to Chicago. Would have been Pippen to Boston for multiple lottery picks and one of them was going to be McGrady. Jordan caught wind of this and balked. The Bulls obviously went on to win their 6th title but I appreciate the fact that Krause wanted to pair Jordan with McGrady and have McGrady be the star to lead the Bulls into the next generation. Krause was a forward thinker. He recognized that Brand was a solid player but not special and tried to pair Chandler and Curry instead. It didn't work but I get what he was trying. When he "retired" in 2003, that Bulls team had Curry, Chandler, Crawford, Jalen Rose, and Jay Williams.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 02:20 PM) I read this as Jerry Reinsdorf and almost s*** myself. Sad news. He had been in questionable health for a while IIRC. Amazing that he made it as long as he did. I don't think there will ever be a consensus on what kinda GM Krause was. But the Pippen/Grant additions in the summer of '87 to this day is one of the great heists in NBA history. There should be consensus. He's the best GM in Chicago sports history. Can't really be debated either.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) No way. If he is cleared in this current signing period, I'll put money on the Padres. Sox could still in this period though. they don't have any big $$ commitments for J2. The plan could easily be to sign him either way.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 08:50 AM) Wow, could be a steal, could be a mistake. We have no idea. If he is as good as we think he is, it will be an amazing deal. Even if he's like a 1 WAR player it's worth it honestly. That's peanuts.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 11:46 AM) What's the point of carrying both Leury and Yolmer? Aren't they redundant? Is it just because both are out of options? Leury can play CF. That's probably why.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 11:36 AM) You think they'll carry 5 guys on the bench (including the backup catcher)? Seems unlikely to me. How do you get 5 bench guys? Davidson as DH and Narvaez as C. Bench: Leury, Sanchez, Soto and Asche.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) Asche seems likely to be the DH at this point. I'm not sure Davidson is a sure thing for this roster personally. Davidson is a lock as he's out of options. Bench will likely be Sanchez, Garcia, Soto, and 1 of Liriano/Asche. Davidson on the roster as primary DH.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 11:22 AM) Maybe someone like Gonzalez. But probably a free agent signing or a trade for someone optionable. Gonzalez for Devers seems fair. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 09:47 AM) Compare and contrast to Mark Trumbo who got a 3 year salary on the open market almost exactly what Abreu got. Trumbo even plays some OF which adds to his value. Abreu is already at or above market value. Mark Trumbo is bad though. He has a sub .300 .OBP. He's not really a similar player to Abreu. He's much more similar to Frazier but Frazier is a solid defender at least. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 09:13 AM) All that really says is Alford believed his player. No it doesn't. It says that Alford indirectly through Athletes in Action, tried to squash the whole thing and make the victim recant her statement. They tried to make the girl pray about it and even meet with Pierce to talk about it. It's disgusting. He didn't just "believe his player". He went to extreme lengths to try and discredit the victim so that Pierce could continue playing basketball at Iowa. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 08:08 AM) I don't know how being "well versed" in say basketball, makes him a better baseball announcer. I like Jason, but there is no question Hawk knows a bit more baseball than he does. Jason is fine, and will only get better, but you mentioned modern baseball broadcast. What is so appealing about every broadcast from every team or network sounding the same? One thing I really like about Hawk's broadcast is it's uniqueness. The broadcast school, cookie cutter telecast is taking over. It's nice to have something different, and how it's set up now, you get some of both. Believe me, I am pro education, but there are things you really don't need a college degree. PBP for baseball games is one of them. I like analytics and modern baseball analysis coming from my team's booth in 2017. You may not. That's fine too.
