Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
Y2Jimmy0 replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This Phil Rogers piece from tonight says that the Astros have been unwilling to include to include Kyle Tucker in trade talks which is borderline insanity: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/215591558/wh...picid=151437456 It does explain why a deal hasn't been consummated if true. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) Off the top of my head San Diego, Atlanta and Philadelphia, Oakland. I'm sure once I look closely there will be a few others as well. edit: Probably Milwaukee and Miami too. Miami is definitely better than the Sox. San Diego and Philadelphia are the only ones that are definitely worse IMO. 1. Anderson SS 2. Abreu 1B 3. Cabrera LF 4. Frazier 3B 5. Davidson DH 6. Lawrie 2B 7. Garcia RF 8. Soto C 9. Tilson CF That's a bad offense. -

It's obviously not the only measure but check out how bad fan graphs thinks they are: http://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?...LL&teamid=4 -
It's obviously not a perfect indicator but check out Frangraphs projections: http://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?...LL&teamid=4 They have Brewers and Padres as only teams worse than the White Sox. 25 collective WAR puts the Sox right in the mix for a top 3 pick IMO.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 01:28 PM) The offense won't be that bad. There will be 6-7 teams which score fewer runs. They have 4-5 professional hitters. I agree with the starters except Gonzalez is closer to a 4 than 5. Hopefully, Rodon improves again and can be a 2. It's still decent. Don't forget the pen which will probably be the default strength of the team. Which offenses are worse? -
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) Also, he revealed to me who his source works for, and all I will say is that his source is not affiliated with the Sox, so his source really isn't even an inside guy anyway. It's Charles the Cat isn't it?

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) Because some disagree with your evaluations. They have 4-5 MLB hitters, 3 decent starters and a decent bullpen. That's more than many of the bottom tier teams. No one is saying they are any good but they have more talent than more than a few teams. Plus they fired Robin who is the primary cause of their issues last year. I think they will challenge for worst offense in baseball. They'll hit some homers because of Frazier and Abreu. They won't be on base often enough to sustain anything though. They have a #1 starter. A #3 starter (with tremendous upside) 2 #5 starters and Shields who is probably toast. -
Sears is saying that the Sox are close to a deal with recently DFA'd Byung Ho Park even though he has to clear waivers first. Lets see if he gets lucky again.

QUOTE (Soha @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) I'm surprised as well. I think the greatest asset out there for the Sox to acquire to help the rebuild lies in the 2018 draft. So this lack of activity is probably going to cost them big in that draft. It's hard to imagine them being in the top 3-4 picks as the rosters stand now. And even if they do move Q and others at the trading deadline - it will probably be too late to make a run at a top pick. I hope the extra(s) they are holding out for in these trades is worth it. They are absolutely one of the 5 worst teams in baseball. Why do people think otherwise? -

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 12:11 PM) He says he does, you say he doesn't. All I know is that I will continue to cautiously monitor things he says relating to the Sox, you can continue to be upset any time his name is mentioned. Thanks for your permission, Chili. -
QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) Except it's not a ban on Muslims. There is no Muslim Ban, just a way to partisan by liberals. Do you have twitter, Brett? The President has stated numerous times that it's a ban. It's not Democrats making s*** up.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) Your predictions don't jive... I will go 78-84, assuming Q or any other major piece isn't moved before the season. Optimistic for sure, but I don't think this team is anywhere near as bad as most everyone here wants them to be. 78 is flat out crazy talk IMO. This is a bad baseball team. How will they score runs?
-
Some of you guys are either way high on the projections or think Robin Ventura mattered much more than he actually does. This is a really bad baseball team. I think something like 72-73 wins is the most optimistic and that's a stretch. Even with Q, Frazier, Melky, and DRob for half a season, I don't see how they aren't competing to be the worst team in the AL. They have a terrible offense. Not enough power and guys that don't get on-base. I've done this already but a lineup with: Anderson SS/Abreu 1B/ Melky LF/ Frazier 3B/ Lawrie 2B/ Davidson 3B/ Garcia RF/ Soto C/ Tilson CF is way RH and one of the worst lineups in all of baseball. A rotation with: Quintana/Rodon/Gonzalez/Shields/Holland is solid at the top but pretty bad 3-5. The bullpen should be pretty good. They will also be trading players throughout the season and calling up more young guys. The 75-78 win crowd is very optimistic IMO.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 09:55 AM) I tend to think that Belichick makes Brady look better more than the other way around. The Patriots went 11-5 without Brady in 2008 and went 4-0 in the games he didn't play in this year. There's no one better at turning castoffs and nobodies into good players. Would Brady have been the GOAT with another coach? I don't think so. Belichick doesn't win that Super Bowl with Jimmy Garoppolo though.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 09:50 AM) Along with Cooper, they got the 61st pick in the draft from AZ, which they traded to New Orleans for the 78th and 112th, which became starting LG Joe Thuney and Mitchell. It may say more about their skill in finding players, but the draft pick they got for Chandler Jones had a direct effect on their SB win. Ah I gotcha.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 08:12 AM) Sylvia was a nut job on her Real World season too. Actually outside of Nicole that whole season was filled with crazy people really. Yeah that was the Chicago season. I have some friends that you used to see those guys out all the time.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 03:28 PM) You are selling him way short and those are two bad examples anyhow. The Jones trade netted them their starting left guard all season and a good young receiver in Malcolm Mitchell. Plus, they still won the Super Bowl. And Wes welker hasn't played a football game in 1.5 seasons while Amendola is still a Patriot so that worked out pretty well too. That's why the "downgraded " to a guy on the right side of 30. Umm they got Jonathan Cooper in that trade who was cut and signed with 3 separate teams this year. He wasn't the Patriots starter.
-
This season will be fun. What the f*** was that Sylvia girl doing? Why would you go against your Real World roommates like that? Especially Tony. That dude is crazy and probably the best male competitor along with Corey that isn't one of the previous champs.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 12:40 AM) So no matter how many more times he correctly scoops a story with good info, you will continue to consider him a hack? Just weird how strongly you discredit him for being hit-or-miss so far. He doesn't have actual sources though. He makes things up and happens to be right sometimes. It's not the same thing. Is he brother? Your buddy? What's the deal? Do you get a cut somehow? -

QUOTE (pablo @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 05:42 PM) I swear Nightengale must get a commission if Q gets traded. He's the only one playing up any news about it. He did interview Jim Crane the other day. -

I just saw today's episode of MLB Network's show. I think it replays later. Nightengale was still saying that Jim Crane has 1 more move left in him and that he thinks Q or Gray is on Astros to start the season. So weird. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 02:54 PM) If you have $58M to spend, you have a chance to convince two guys to come play with Butler at which point you are in a great spot. The problem is, how likely is it that there will be two guys available. I think the plan has to get good role players via the trade while becoming a true contender via free agency (surrounding talent around Jimmy). I'd say a key will be landing a free agent this year and then again the following year (when Wade would come off the books). If Wade ultimately walks, then it might be more critical to land two pieces immediately. Gar / Pax also have to be very very slick / smart in how they manage their assets to ensure they keep payroll flexibility while ensuring they have good enough teams to be attractive enough to the point where two guys would look at Butler and the "supporting" cast and saying, hey, this team can go from 7th seed to 1st seed. Being in a major market and the eastern conference should only help that cause, especially as Lebron is starting to get older (although still amazing). I feel like this has been the plan before........

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 01:56 PM) The annual email from Ted Phillips arrived today. Despite the worst season in almost 40 years, season tickets prices will increase 1 to 4%. But it's the first increase in 3 years, so we got that going for us. He also basically said they are going nuts in free agency

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 01:33 PM) Really wish the Bulls would've made a trade for Jahlil Okafor. I love his potential. They don't have the pieces to get Jahlil Okafor.
