QUOTE (pablo @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) Yes but scouts were very split on Reed to begin with before he came up and critics point to last year as an "I told you so". Some thought he was a first division 1B and others thought nothing of him (which I realize can be said about any prospect). I am suprised by the 21-22% K numbers in the MiLB that another poster brought up so last year's 34% K-rate is likely to decline. I would hope Hahn could take advantage of his stock falling and get him as a 4th piece. The similarities to Rizzo are obvious but probably overstated. I can't remember what scouts said about him when he was coming up. Here's an old report from fan graphs on Reed prior to his call-up: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/projecting-...ugger-a-j-reed/ He was a top 30 prospect in baseball and raked in the minor leagues in some good hitters environments. Low A .936 OPS 174 wRC+ High A .911 OPS 141 wRC+ High A .1085 OPS 190 wRC+ AA .1000 OPS 168 wRC+ AAA .924 OPS 142 wRC+ 141 major league plate appearances: 3 homers, tons of strikeouts and .532 OPS.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 09:45 AM) I think Cleveland is thinking very hard about bringing Watson home, I wouldn't be so sure about Garrett They can get Watson at #12. Garrett is clear #1. And if not, he'll go #2.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 09:41 AM) They have. They are both disruptive interior players. Allen - 6'3 290 lbs Donald - 6'0 280 lbs Not all that much difference. Allen a little bit more suited for 3-4 5T, but that stuff doesn't matter all that much. Mike Daniels plays 5T for Packers and he is same size as Donald. Allen has great pass rush ability. Last two years he had 22 sacks. That's why you are drafting him top 10. Now if you are worried about injury totally get that, but that is up to teams to figure out with doctors. Sorry, if we can compare Thomas to Watt, we can compare Allen and Donald. Even if you don't want to compare those two play style. The production Donald gives you is what teams expect out of Allen. I don't think Jonathan Allen is Aaron Donald in his very best dreams.

QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 09:41 AM) International Bonus Pool money can be traded, right? And the Astros were also just gifted $2M by the Cards. It can but $$ for this July 2nd can't be traded until that period starts on July 2. That $2 million gifted by the Cards is basically the value of the 2 picks they were given.

QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 08:34 AM) How do you feel about Garrett at 3? I'd run to the podium. Garrett is going #1 though.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 03:30 PM) People have compared Allen to Aaron Donald. No they haven't. At least they shouldn't. Donald is a 3 technique DT. Allen more of a 5 technique in a 34 front. He should be a good pro but I worry that he's about as good now as he'll ever be and the shoulder issues are scary. I think Solomon Thomas from Stanford is the best DL in the draft. He could be JJ Watt like at the next level. If they didn't go QB, he'd be my pick at #3.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 08:14 AM) I take it the Astros picks are tradeable? Only the 75th pick is which is in the Competitive Balance round following round 2. You would get the 75th selection and $800,000 more to spend on the draft pool.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/c...vival/97431050/ Wow. Jim Crain flat out saying they are trying to get Quintana. This is a good sign. Thanks, Bob.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 02:10 PM) Read my edited post...I think it shows where I was going with my initial question. I'm kidding man. Just frustrated with the entire org.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) I agree with you (ignoring coaching staff). I think we are the right superstar away from being in the picture of the best teams in the league (Curry would fit that bill) and a really good point guard away from being a top 3 seed in the East. I also agree that it doesn't mean we don't have other flaws that would have to get addressed though (and by no means is that like a "lock"). Well that settles it. The Bulls should keep Jimmy Butler and get Steph Curry. Problem solved.

2016-17 free agency thread (NON WHITE SOX RELATED)

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 01:56 PM) To all the parents out there, if you teach your son one thing in life, make it how to throw a baseball left handed. That's a nice signing for Cleveland. Logan was good last year. He put up a 3.23 FIP pitching home games at Coors. He only allowed an .OPS of .477 vs LHH too. 11 K/9. -
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) C - Soto >> Maile (Ramos is out at least until May and may not be able to catch) 1B - Abreu >>> Miller 2B - Lawrie > Franklin SS - Anderson = Duffy 3B - Frazier LF - Cabrera >> Rasmus CF - Tilson RF - Liriano DH - Garcia > Dickerson I think their lineup is worse. Probably the second worst in MLB behind the Padres. SP - Q = Archer SP - Rodon > Odorizzi SP - Shields SP - Gonzalez > Cobb SP - Holland >> Andriese I think the rotation is pretty much a wash. This is very generous. Avisail Garcia would dream of a .469 SLG with 24 homers. In no universe is Avisail Garcia a better player than Corey Dickerson is. The Sox bad players are worse than the Rays' but that's fine.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 12:42 PM) So anywho...anyone been watching IT lately? That dude is so damn fun to watch. Sure, he's an awful defender but he's not on my team so I don't give a damn. Do you know who could help make his defense not matter as much? Jimmy Butler
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 12:36 PM) Exactly. Not every star is DeMarcus Cousins who is willing to stay in the NBA hellhole known as Sacramento based solely on money. There are various other aspects that impact these decisions and free agency/trades won't change. Which free agent next offseason is leaving his current situation to play with Jimmy Butler in Chicago?
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) You keep saying this but every time the NBA tries to make this happen, stars still leave. You ignore that there are advantages beyond money for these guys. Endorsements, exposure, weather, income taxes, playing style, championships, etc. all play a factor. I think it will affect some guys. It's not going to kill FA signings or trades. Which star player will leave their current team to come play with Jimmy Butler? Maybe Gordon Hayward. That move the needle for you?
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 12:30 PM) A HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE if that won't come to fruition for another 5 seasons. What's the rush? Butler is still under the Bull's control for 2 seasons. If they strike out in FA this summer, do this next year, or the year after. A 30 year old starting all-star butler is on par with a 28 year old starting all star Butler. He'll return the same value. Brooklyn's 2017 top 3 pick won't be available after next season though.
-
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 11:41 AM) I think so too, but they still have Q. If the Rays trade Archer and the Sox trade Q, I still think the Sox would be better. Outside of Longoria, their offense is ridiculously bad, and even he is starting to slip. I think their offense is better than the White Sox. Rays have: Longoria, Kiermaier, Dickerson, Ramos, Rasmus, Souza, Franklin, Duffy with Adames knocking on the door. Their lineup is better. Their rotation is better too.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 12:22 PM) If that's the case, then there are only 3-4 true contenders max in the NBA at any given time and I don't see how trading Butler and accumulating picks would get the Bulls any closer to that elite group. It could potentially get the Bulls into that group 4 years from now. They need to draft superstars and then keep them forever. The days of stars leaving via Free Agency is going to be over.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 11:33 AM) If you look back over the past three years, no player drafted is anywhere close to Jimmy's stratesphere today. So if we tanked in that period, where exactly would we be? Joel Embiid is the closest thing and he's done it for a few months and has an injury riddled past. Players take time, but Towns / Wiggins / Embiid (going back to the last three years worth of drafts) are probably the three best players taken the past three years (thus far). I expect Ben Simmons to be in that conversation soon. Devin Booker (13th overall) is probably the next best player (as well as Porzingis) and obviously the three names mentioned above were high picks, but when you look at 14/15/16, you'll see a lot of really really awful players drafted very early on. So no, I don't really think just burning it all down is that great of a plan. I think having good draft picks helps, but there is so much luck...you need to be the team sitting @ 1 when LBJ is there or Anthony Davis. I think everyone should take a look at the list of draft picks the last few years and just realize that getting top picks is no guarantee of anything. If we are lucky we end up with one superstar and even then, like I said, I don't find it that likely. By the way, I didn't even mention the 2013 draft where you are talking about almost every pick in the top 10 being an absolute nobody in the league at this point (with the exception of Oladipo, who is a solid starter, and the 10th overall selection CJ McCollum who is really good and of course the greek freek drafted 15th overall). I think it is more likely we can sign someone in free agency, make the right trade, etc (not to mention Jimmy takes another step forward), then the alternative. You all keep throwing out 30, yes it is getting older, but I figure Jimmy has at least 4-6 years left of prime basketball (and he works hard), so why blow something up when we literally are in the first year of ever having this "prime" Jimmy around. I don't quite know if people realize how f***ing good he has been this year and also if you look at our bench plays, etc, if people realize how bad they have been. I at least give this one, if not two more years of trying to build around Jimmy. We also forget that Wade loves Jimmy, Kyrie love Jimmy....lots of star players like Jimmy and he's going to recruit like a mofo because he wants to win like nobodies business (it is so evident in how hard he has worked to make his game better). We have a bunch of weak bench players, with no mental fortitude led by a weak handed head coach. Gar is a joke too by the way and Pax is the one overseeing it all so he clearly deserves fall in this too. Oh and the Bulls can figure out how to get a max player under their cap while keeping Wade. PS: Mike, most of these comments aren't direct at you. Jimmy is 28 though. I would take all of those players on this Bulls team instead of Butler. Butler wasn't as good as any of those guys at the same age. That's part of the point. Embiid, Porzingis, Towns, Wiggins, Simmons are all in their early 20's. None of them are as good as Butler right now but they are all in their only 20's.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) What you're failing to address in this gigantic wall of text is the fact that the Bulls haven't drafted a productive player in quite some time. Why does that change now? They could trade Butler, draft busts with those lottery picks, and then they'll be in a worse position than they were with Butler. I have no confidence in the Bulls to make the right personnel decisions. That's truly a warranted concern and I did suggest firing Forman. Matt Lloyd was instrumental in many of their solid picks including (Butler, Taj). I never said it would definitely work. I said it's a better option. Markelle Fulz of Washington, Dennis Smith of NC State and Lonzo Ball from UCLA are high quality PG prospects that should be top 3 picks. Draft also has a few Kentucky players, Josh Jackson from Kansas and Jonathan Isaac from FSU not to mention others. It's a great draft. If it wasn't I wouldn't be suggesting what I'm suggesting.

QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) Someone asked Offman were there any names involved. He just responded this morning saying that no names and there are many other discussions with other teams involved as well. Yeah so that rumor was nothing unless you want to read between the lines, as expected. It does indicate that for whatever reason, The White Sox wanted it out there that Texas in interested. Ofman tweeted Texas interested at 2:36 yesterday and Bob at 2:41. I'm pretty sure their source is the same person.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) Exactly. Unlike baseball, the NBA is a superstar driven league. Now I know Butler is LeBron or anything, but he's a quasi-superstar and could potentially attract premier free agents. I've seen James' plan and while it's not a bad idea, I have absolutely no faith in the Bulls to take a future superstar with those lottery picks they'd get for Butler. Look at McDermott. Look at Mirotic. Look at Portis. Look at all the busts they've drafted lately. Why would that change now? People aren't coming to Chicago to play with Jimmy f***ing Butler instead of taking max deals in their current markets. That's the point
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 10:51 AM) Find other players to build around him. You start with 1 superstar so easier to find a 2nd. When you have none, it is hard to even get to one, let alone two or three. I've given plenty of examples of teams with one star who waited out and then finally got the right piece. It could be via free agency, it could be via trade. I'm not dealing Butler today unless we get a massive haul. I also really haven't yet seen a team succeed through a "tank" strategy, but I've seen a lot of teams suck for a really long time because they can never get the good players in the draft. Who are you adding? Wade needs to leave in order for the Bulls to offer another max contract. The only guy that I could see coming to Chicago is Gordon Hayward. Hello 6th seed. Jimmy Butler is 28 years old. There is no path to being good with him the next 2 seasons. After that, he will need a new contract. Free agents won't be leaving their teams as much anymore. They especially won't be coming here. I've offered a plan. Nobody else has. You guys all say "add better players, draft better, you have a superstar get another one" and I hear "blahblahblah yay playoff basketball again". This organization is the biggest f***ing joke in Chicago. They have 1 option. Tear it to the ground. Building around Butler keeps you competitive but doesn't put you in the discussion to win titles. It's just kicking the can down the road. This plan isn't necessarily feasible but it's best option: Trade Niko and Taj for whatever you can get. Fire Gar Forman. Hire Matt Lloyd as GM. Trade Jimmy Butler for 2017 Brooklyn swap and 2018 Brooklyn 1st along with some combination of players from Boston. Dwyane Wade opts out. Bulls are bad the rest of the year and end up with a top 10 pick. Bulls also move Kings into the 11-14 range and take Brooklyn's top 3 selection. 3 lottery picks in this draft, one of which should be 1 of the big 3 PG's sets the Bulls up nicely into the future. They'd also have 2 lottery picks next year. They'd be bad and Boston may not make that deal but this gives you a much more realistic path to a title than patching s*** around Jimmy Butler does. It won't happen though because Michael Reinsdorf likes selling bobble heads and collecting playoff revenue. 1998 was a long ass time ago.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 10:47 AM) I'm just playing with you on the 20 cents part, but yes, I really do think they should build around Butler instead of tearing it all down. What is your path to a championship with Butler on the roster?
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 10:42 AM) My $0.2 is that they should build around Butler. Do you really believe that or just making fun of me?
