The problem is simple: it's home runs and .OPS
Y2Jimmy0 replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If the Sox weren't willing to up the ante for Cespedes last offseason, why would they do it this year and give up the 12th pick in the draft to do so? It doesn't make sense. -

Exclusive interview: Marco Paddy, Director of Int'l Scouting
Y2Jimmy0 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
Really good stuff by Brian. It's really easy to be upset about them not blowing past the pool but what Paddy said does make sense. They can sign guys that would be 500-600K players for 300-350K. Many of these guys have made it stateside from the past few signing periods: Micker Adolfo, Nelson Acosta, Ricky Mota, Felix Mercedes, Jhoandro Alfaro, Amado Nunez, and Franklin Reyes. Tatis is highly regarded and was obviously traded to San Diego. The most recent class landed three OF's ranked in the 30's in Josue Guerrero, Luis Mieses, and Anderson Comas. They signed 9 players total. We really have no proof that some of these guys are worse prospects than guys signed for $4 million bonuses. If they ever do go over, this is the year to do it. I doubt it happens though. -

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 08:51 AM) Greg with a home win Friday, the last week of the season could pit 8-0 Loyola v 8-0 Rice at Rice......Loyola does not travel well......of course Rice has to get past Carmel and Rita neither of which are what they used to be. If the Rice QB continues playing like he has, they could be the best team in the state along with HF, Loyola and LWE. That Lockport conference is an absolute beast. The CCL Blue gets a lot of recognition but other than Rice and Loyola the other teams make their noise in the lower classes of the playoffs. There is a huge difference between 6A and 8A in the state playoffs. Our conference lost Lincoln Way North and Both Joliet Schools this year. We should send 8 teams of the 13 to the playoffs though. HF should be 9-0. LWE probably 8-1 and Bradley-Bourbonnais will also win 8-9 games. Lockport, LWW, and LWC should all be in that 6-7 win range. I think Thornridge will make it at 5-4 as well and Bolingbrook is fighting for their playoff lives from here on out. Stagg, Andrew, Sandburg, Thornton, and Thornwood are all pretty down but a very tough conference. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 11:25 PM) I was assuming Collins, Hansen and Burdi/Call I think Collins and Hansen will be on top 100 lists. Burdi won't be on Law's list but I bet all 3 are on other lists.

The Bears aren't very good but it's overreaction city on defense. They are down their 3 best players: Goldman, McPhee, and Trevathan. Also missing Fuller and Callahan. Next man up is just a cute thing that coaches say. But when "Next man up" is a guy that sucks, this is what happens. Their decimated defense isn't good enough to withstand getting nothing from the offense. If you could guarantee me the #1 or #2 pick right now I'd take it but I don't believe they will be that awful once Cutler returns. They have absolutely no depth, their offense and OC are bad, and they are decimated by injuries.

QUOTE (staxx @ Sep 25, 2016 -> 05:11 PM) Lincoln-Way East back on track after HF loss. Still think they should be a favorite for the title. I coach at Lockport. We played HF last week. They are very good but definitely beatable. A team that can keep scoring can get them in the playoffs. Their defense isn't great and they do dumb things quite often. Their QB is special though. LWE was my pick for the 8A title preseason but their loss to HF was alarming. They are trying to play their QB and the LWN QB and it's tough getting in a rhythm with two guys back there. We play LWE week 9. -
Who Will Be The Next Manager of the White Sox
Y2Jimmy0 replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I talked with Scott Merkin this weekend via DM on twitter. He said if he had to guess, he'd think it would be Renteria or McEwing as next manager but that could change obviously. He also said Don Cooper is 100% back. -
Bill MItchell did his prospect chat with info on many of the Sox players. Looks like NorthSideSox got some questions in. I'm not sure if I can post that stuff in here though

Who Will Be The Next Manager of the White Sox

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 24, 2016 -> 07:43 AM) I think you'll get your wish, or something closely resembling it, anyway. Since that 23-10 start from long, long ago, the Sox have gone 49-71 in the 120 games subsequent. That pencils out to an abysmal .408 winning percentage. Only the Twins have played to a worse winning percentage than that this year in all of baseball. Given the sample size of the last 120 games versus the first 33, even my blind dog can see this White Sox team is currently a real clunker. Therefore, I don't expect Kenny Hahn to go on another retooling, put-lipstick-on-a-pig jaunt this winter. That gig is up. Year 1 of the three year plan rendered 76 wins, and it looks like Year 2 is going to cough and wheeze out about the same. I don't think they'll bother with a Year 3, but rather go now in the direction you suggest, which would be the prudent way to go at this point. I completely agree with Thad here. raBBIt has speculated it already and others that I have talked to seem to think some version of a step back is coming. If I had to bet, I'd say that Sale, Frazier, and Melky all get moved. I think Q and Eaton stay because of the years of control and I don't think Abreu is going anywhere either. The Sale thing is a conundrum. He's signed for 3 years at $39 million. The White Sox can't give up picks to sign free agents and it's an historically bad FA class. They also don't have the prospects to trade and shouldnt trade the ones they do have. THey need to deal players on 1 year deals and trade Sale most likely. I don't really see a scenario in which they are good enough over the next 3 years to justifu keeping Chris Sale. -
http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/2016...Ldzy2KuisThX.97 Baseball America has begun to rank the top 20 prospects in each league. In the AZL, they had White Sox SS Amado Nunez at #19. Fernando Tatis was #10 who they traded for James Shields. In the Pioneer League, Alec Hansen is #2 behind Riley Pint and 7th round LHP Bernardo Flores is # 20.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 22, 2016 -> 03:25 PM) Last Year in 13 games Andy Dalton threw for 3200 yards with 28 total touchdowns and 7 Ints, 2 fumbles. Last year in 15 games, in Jay Cutlers best regarded year as a Bear, he threw for 3600 yards, 22 total Tds, 11 interceptions and 5 fumbles lost Alex Smith, 16 games 3500 yards, 22 total TDs, 7 ints, 0 fumbles lost. Matt Ryan has taken a beating, but even last year as everyone decided he's not very good, he threw for 4,600 yards, 21 touchdowns and 16 ints, with 5 fumbles lost (12 fumbles!). Stafford in 16 games threw for 4,200 yards, 32 touchdowns, 13 INTs and 2 fumbles Everyone pretty much does see more attempts per game, which would account for the gross yardage almost always being in favor of other QBs, but it may also be that they are trusted with a more passing offense and don't kill drives as often. If you put those QBs ahead of him (which I would), he is in the bottom 10 in the league. Flacco is the one QB I would say is most often like Jay Cutler. You are scouting a stat line though and it's very subjective. I'd rather have him than those players. Cutler was basically the reason why the Bears even had 6 wins last year. I will agree that he'd be basically lumped in with those guys if we were doing like "categories" of QB's. I'm fine with moving on too. I just understand why teams settle for someone functional.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) It would be my guess that he made that clear up front. I know that was a reason that other candidates passed up the bench manager position. It's the supposed reason as to why Sandy Alomar turned down the bench coach job. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 22, 2016 -> 02:22 PM) I dont think Kizer is going #1 as he's not the best QB in the draft. I also think the Bears will have a top 3 pick. Kizer is the top QB and many draft analysts agree. Matt Miller among others are already talking about Kizer as the #1 pick.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 22, 2016 -> 01:43 PM) He's not below average. What guys do you consider average? So going through the QB's in football: Newton, Roethlisberger, Brady, Brees, Luck, Rodgers, Rivers, Manning, Romo, Wilson, and Flacco are better than Cutler. I'd take Winston, Wentz, Bortles, Carr, Mariota, and Bridgewater over him too. That puts him around 18 which is about right I think. I don't think guys like Dalton, Smith, Ryan, and Stafford are better than Cutler is but others probably disagree. He is what he is.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 22, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) Yeah I dont think he's below average, but we also arent "Building a team" around him either. By the time this team is turned over and ready he's going to be gone. Oh yeah I agree with this. I don't think they'll be bad enough to take one of the top 2 QB's next year. Garoppolo could be an interesting trade option. Cutler only has a $2 million cap hit if they cut him next year but I still feel like they'll be able to get a draft pick for him if they choose that route. If you could guarantee me that they'd be horrible enough to select Kizer I'd take that deal right now. He's probably going #1 though.

Who Will Be The Next Manager of the White Sox
Y2Jimmy0 replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Whatever the reason, if they choose Rick Renteria to manage next season, it's ridiculous that he wasn't managing at some point this season when it was clear that Ventura was in his final season. I know it's probably Rick's choice. That's a disservice to the organization though. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2016 -> 12:27 PM) I think their spending habits will have more to do with that. Maybe so. I just meant that it's extremely unlikely that a team in their position would forfeit a top 15 pick. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 22, 2016 -> 01:41 PM) The often outlandish criticism Cutler has received has created a built-in defense of him that is deployed even when it isn't warranted. Cutler is a below average QB. But he is still a QB you can create a passing offense around. But Bears fans think below average in terms of Rex Grossman, Miller, Matthews, Orton, Krenzel, etc. Quarterbacks that would finish year with 10 or less TDs to their name, that you could not run a passing offense around. But for cutler, his inability to stay healthy is a criticism, same as Romo at this point in career. How can you build a team around a QB who isn't there for 3/4s of snaps every year? And you can put all of that blame on protection, but there are things that make QBs great (getting ball out of their hand, decision making, protecting ball) that he is not great at. He just isn't that good. There are too many good QBs in the league to still consider Cutler average. He's not below average. What guys do you consider average?

The JonBenet Ramsey Investigative thing on CBS was really good. They had a private team reinvestigate the case basically. I don't want to give it away but the conclusion makes a lot of sense.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 22, 2016 -> 10:46 AM) I would agree with you but he was kind of pushed out by the cub so I see his point with the White Sox and don't think it should reflect on him as much. I just think that it would have most benefitted the club to see him manage the 2nd half of the year if he's honestly a candidate. If he didn't want that chance, that's enough for me to move on to someone else. I'm sure he's a great guy, but he wouldn't be managing my baseball team. -

White Sox will most likely pick 11th or 12th. At least that takes them out of the discussion for QO free agents.
