The offensive numbers weren't really there this season, but he is a plus defender in the OF and with Eaton and Cespedes maning the other 2 positions, the OF defense would be massively upgraded. I think Chris Sale's days with the White Sox are numbered and I think they will ultimately do pretty well in a trade for him. I think the team tries to capitalize off that one trade and compete while also planning for the future. -Trade Chris Sale to the Red Sox for Andrew Benintendi, Rafael Devers, Michael Kopech, Eduardo Rodriguez, and Blake Swihart. In this trade, the Sox get someone they covet for some reason in Swihart, they get a stud CF, the eventual replacement for Frazier, a young power arm, and a rotation piece for the present. Fills needs but also builds for the future. -Sign Edwin Encarnacion to offset the loss in pitching. I'd personally go somewhere around 4 yr, $92 million. -Sign Boone Logan as your second lefty in the pen. -Bring up Burdi and really make the bullpen a strength. Shorten the game for the starters and make the bullpen lock down. If they start a massive rebuild, I look for Quintana to go to the Dodgers and Sale to go to the Red Sox. I think Frazier, Melky, and Robertson go at the deadline. Lawrie probably goes for a flier piece in the offseason. I love the effort. I don't think they'd give up the 12th pick in the draft to sign Encarnacion though. I just don't see them giving up a pick and I hope they don't.

Some are angry but I agree with Hahn that it doesn't make any sense to state a direction. I think they will shop Sale and Quintana. If they get what they are looking for, I think they move Sale and go from there. If the offers aren't there though, I could see something similar to last offseason but with better players added. I highly doubt they will be spending on a player with a QO attached though.

Will come back down to earth a little back in the AL but he should be above average and consistent. Again, shouldn't break the bank either. If the Sox weren't willing to up the ante for Cespedes last offseason, why would they do it this year and give up the 12th pick in the draft to do so? It doesn't make sense.

Really good stuff by Brian. It's really easy to be upset about them not blowing past the pool but what Paddy said does make sense. They can sign guys that would be 500-600K players for 300-350K. Many of these guys have made it stateside from the past few signing periods: Micker Adolfo, Nelson Acosta, Ricky Mota, Felix Mercedes, Jhoandro Alfaro, Amado Nunez, and Franklin Reyes. Tatis is highly regarded and was obviously traded to San Diego. The most recent class landed three OF's ranked in the 30's in Josue Guerrero, Luis Mieses, and Anderson Comas. They signed 9 players total. We really have no proof that some of these guys are worse prospects than guys signed for $4 million bonuses. If they ever do go over, this is the year to do it. I doubt it happens though.

I think Thornridge will make it at 5-4 as well and Bolingbrook is fighting for their playoff lives from here on out. Stagg, Andrew, Sandburg, Thornton, and Thornwood are all pretty down but a very tough conference.

The Bears aren't very good but it's overreaction city on defense. They are down their 3 best players: Goldman, McPhee, and Trevathan. Also missing Fuller and Callahan. Next man up is just a cute thing that coaches say. But when "Next man up" is a guy that sucks, this is what happens. Their decimated defense isn't good enough to withstand getting nothing from the offense. If you could guarantee me the #1 or #2 pick right now I'd take it but I don't believe they will be that awful once Cutler returns. They have absolutely no depth, their offense and OC are bad, and they are decimated by injuries.

I talked with Scott Merkin this weekend via DM on twitter. He said if he had to guess, he'd think it would be Renteria or McEwing as next manager but that could change obviously. He also said Don Cooper is 100% back.

The Sale thing is a conundrum. He's signed for 3 years at $39 million. The White Sox can't give up picks to sign free agents and it's an historically bad FA class. They also don't have the prospects to trade and shouldnt trade the ones they do have. THey need to deal players on 1 year deals and trade Sale most likely. I don't really see a scenario in which they are good enough over the next 3 years to justifu keeping Chris Sale.
