QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 27, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) Games 1, 2 and 4 yes I agree..............Game 3 should be way better than this with starters going 3 quarters. Not when the coaching staff doesn't take the game seriously. They obviously haven't. Trevathan basically said so in post game.

Man lots of bad takes in here today. Nothing mattered today. They haven't game planned all preseason. I thought 8-8 or 9-7 weeks ago. I still feel the same. They went 6-10 last year. They are better now and play an easier schedule.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 11:02 AM) Greg your guys open v Marist at Soldier Field then host Crete. They have the toughest schedule in the state. Hopefully they have the players to back it up. Some really good games this weekend as well. Brother Rice should be good. I coach at Lockport. We are at DGN tonight. -
High School football season starts tonight.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 09:39 AM) If Bosa doesn't sign, what happens? Back into the draft next year? Yes. And he'll only be 22 at the time. His father and uncle played in the league and his family has money. He'd probably take a hit next year but at least he wouldn't have to play in San Diego

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) Those are all national brands, living in Iowa I have never heard of "Guaranteed Rate". This is a bad deal for the Sox. It's not a bad deal. You've just never heard of the company. I hadn't either. That doesn't make it a bad deal though.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 08:49 AM) In January of this year how did Alec Hansen compare, as a prospect, to Carlos Rodon when he was at NC State? I recall scouts talking about Rodon as one of the 10 best pitchers on the planet during his Sophomore year at NC State. Here's a Keith Law chat question from December of 2015 about Hansen though: an: Early 2016 draft question but who goes #1? Klaw: If Alec Hansen is healthy, he’s my bet. Jason Groome and AJ Puk are possibilities too, although I think that’s too much for Puk – if I’m going pitcher at 1-1 I want a better athlete. Here's another article from June of 2015: http://www.reporterherald.com/sports/ci_28...en-could-be-top Here's a mock from April: http://dynastydigest.sportsblog.com/posts/...-draft-v-1.html Here's a writeup from reddit in January: https://www.reddit.com/r/MLBDraft/comments/...hp_alec_hansen/

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 09:03 AM) It's kind of weird. To know with the first or second move seems like he would have to have something almost in place. How can he anticipate the price tag will be met with anyone. He could sign some free agent which would indicate going for it again. There seems to be too much of it's possible we step back, and questioning their current strategy, for their not to be some sort of pullback. Maybe they trade some guys, get some minor and major league players back, and sort of do both. With trading Sale or Q, you probably could do that with the return they would bring. Doing both wouldn't be surprising. For example, trade Sale, Robertson, Melky. Keep Quintana and re-sign Frazier. People wouldn't necessarily be happy but I could see them doing something like that.

QUOTE (Scoots @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 07:17 AM) Good interview IMO by Hahn. "I wouldn't have taken the general manager position if I didn't think it would be recipe for success...none of us have to be here. We all are here to help bring another championship to Chicago." http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-white-so...olds-plans-2017 Sounds like at least a moderate rebuild to me. I don't think they trade Sale and Quintana but I bet one of them goes along with Melky, DRob, etc.

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 06:35 AM) That's what happens when you have the #1 farm system in baseball. Fans, even civilians like Andrew Berlin, get super-motivated to jump on board. Meanwhile, the Sox ship is foundering on the rocks because JR was unwilling to sell to someone willing to put 5X as much effort into running things. We hear from JR once a year, if lucky. With Berlin, he's super hands on and gives instantaneous feedback to his customers in South Bend. Some of that would change as a big league owner, but not the vision and commitment. It's also yet another reason Cubs' prospects are excelling while we're seemingly treading water at best. Near-sighted. What? -
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 12:32 PM) Is he getting paid more than usual though? If so, I fail to see what the problem is. Offset language has been included in deals before, so has deferred payments for signing bonuses. In either case, if the dude is getting more consideration for those extra clauses, I don't see why it's so s***ty on the Chargers' part. Going to the media was dumb, i'll agree with that. They decided to basically make Bosa the top pick in the draft. They want to be able to recoup $$ if he's traded or released. Nobody in the top 5 has signed a deal like this prior. It doesn't make sense. They want the bonus up front or the offset language removed. One or the other. Chargers will do neither. f*** them. I hope he sits out the season and they get nothing in return. They've been doing stuff like this for years.

QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 10:54 AM) That was both Enis and Benson, back when a top 5 pick was paid like a starting running back. Both of them had a lot less leverage than Bosa though and the Bears weren't being nearly as petty. Speaking of the Bears: I've posted this before but it seems like a funny time to post it again. In 2001, Mark Hatley had a deal to trade up and take Ladainian Tomlinson in the draft. The McCaskey's didn't want to pay the $$ required for top 5 though. The Bears had the 8th pick and were settled on Deuce McAllister. David Terrell (who they didn't even workout) somehow fell to #8 and the Bears chose him instead. McAllister started to fall and Hatley had another deal to move into the 20's to take him. McCaskey's however didn't want to pay 2 1st rounders. I'm not one of those people that always rails on the Bears ownership because I think they are on the right side of things with current regime but that's an awful but true tale.

Both of them had a lot less leverage than Bosa though and the Bears weren't being nearly as petty. This is absolutely worse because of the new CBA. These contracts should be pretty cookie-cutter. Melvin Ingram, Melvin Gordon, etc signed deals like this. They weren't basically the 1st pick in the draft though. The Chargers essentially had their choice of any player in the draft. They decided that Bosa was the best player and now they are dicking around over something pretty minor. It's incredibly stupid. John Clayton just tweeted that Chargers can get away with this picking in 18-24 range. Not top 5 though.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 10:49 AM) I'm still dumbfounded as to the stupidity of the name. It really isn't that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, but couldn't they have found a way to make the name/logo sound and look better? The Sox have made a laughing stock of themselves for pretty much no reason. Hell, even the Bears made fun of them on Twitter. They might be a laughingstock. It's not because of the Ballpark name though. It's pretty funny when a team that hasn't won a title in 109 years throws shade along with another one that hasn't won a title in 30 years. Good times.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 09:01 AM) ISFA Chairman Manny Sanchez said that move could save the stadium authority as much as $25 million in facility upgrades over the course of the final years of the Sox's lease. "That's a huge piece of this from an ISFA perspective," Sanchez said. "This is something that is a really, really serendipitous godsend that we have encountered." Revenue and savings late during the next decade will be critical for ISFA, which uses hotel tax revenue and annual city and state subsidies to pay off the debt from the renovation of Soldier Field and the construction and maintenance of the Sox's park. That annual debt obligation will steadily balloon from $38.5 million for the year ending June 30, 2017 to $87 million in 2032. This makes sense. Dick is one of the only ones making sense in here. They took the best deal they could find for the naming rights. The name isn't ideal but it doesn't really matter. If the team can get better and find a way to win, nobody will care about the name of the stadium. I said yesterday that they can call it Turd Sandwich Field if the team gets better for all I care. Those of you that are adults and still have Cubs/Sox arguments with dips***s, well I can't help you there. This thread is awful.

QUOTE (Deadpool @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 07:47 AM) I haven't had a knee replacement, but I can imagine the recovery could be pretty painful for someone in their 60s. Oh absolutely. My grandma had it. My father has had it. It's rough. But you could sit and do a radio show when you already have a DSN line in your house on a normal basis anyway.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 07:02 PM) I think his point was who even goes to that level to think of that based upon rate. Yes, it is a one letter switch, but I just don't think of that and just mentioning it / joking about that being a name (not saying you did) is just despicable in my book. Exactly. I just didn't even think of that was my point.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 05:18 PM) Would the Chargers trade his rights for future picks? I'm sure there would be teams who would trade for him. They aren't allowed to trade him. Deadline passed. He'll either sign there or he won't and enter next year's draft and Chargers get nothing in return. Dean Spanos is worth $2 billion and is doing this over offset language. It's a joke. They expect Joey Bosa to take a deal that no other top 5 pick has taken under the new CBA.
-
Why do people keep saying guaranteed rate? I would not have even thought of that if not posted here. It's completely unnecessary, unfunny, kind of stupid.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 02:01 PM) Link? That seems counter to what the Charges stated in their press release, which is that he's getting the biggest signing bonus of any player drafted in the last 2 years. No s*** it does. They didn't include the fact that they want him to take a deal that no other top 5 pick has taken under current CBA. http://www.sbnation.com/2016/8/8/12402198/...go-chargers-why http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/agents-t...s-the-chargers/

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 01:45 PM) Wow, the Chargers are not messing around with the Joey Bosa contract negotiations: https://twitter.com/Chargers/status/768509903707123712 They are messing around. They are f***ing idiots. They want him to take a deal that other #3 picks don't take. They want him to take a deferred Signing Bonus but they also want to recoup money if he's injured or cut prior to his deal ending. If he goes back into next year's draft at age 22, the Chargers receive nothing in return. This is firmly on the Chargers at this point.

Interview with Alex Call, 3rd round pick

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 11:27 AM) Call has cooled off in a major way the past couple of weeks. Wonder if that is luck, fatigue, injury? It's baseball -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 09:51 AM) Yeah, considering we are only 4 games under .500 with a pretty substandard Abreu for over half of the season, I think it is fair to say there are at least 2 more games he would have won us, which would put us back to .500 already (2 more wins, 2 less losses). I think a pretty convincing case could be made that that number could be more like 4-5 games if he had played at All-Star level Abreu. Exactly. 5 extra wins puts them at 65-59.
