QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 09:01 AM) ISFA Chairman Manny Sanchez said that move could save the stadium authority as much as $25 million in facility upgrades over the course of the final years of the Sox's lease. "That's a huge piece of this from an ISFA perspective," Sanchez said. "This is something that is a really, really serendipitous godsend that we have encountered." Revenue and savings late during the next decade will be critical for ISFA, which uses hotel tax revenue and annual city and state subsidies to pay off the debt from the renovation of Soldier Field and the construction and maintenance of the Sox's park. That annual debt obligation will steadily balloon from $38.5 million for the year ending June 30, 2017 to $87 million in 2032. This makes sense. Dick is one of the only ones making sense in here. They took the best deal they could find for the naming rights. The name isn't ideal but it doesn't really matter. If the team can get better and find a way to win, nobody will care about the name of the stadium. I said yesterday that they can call it Turd Sandwich Field if the team gets better for all I care. Those of you that are adults and still have Cubs/Sox arguments with dips***s, well I can't help you there. This thread is awful.

QUOTE (Deadpool @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 07:47 AM) I haven't had a knee replacement, but I can imagine the recovery could be pretty painful for someone in their 60s. Oh absolutely. My grandma had it. My father has had it. It's rough. But you could sit and do a radio show when you already have a DSN line in your house on a normal basis anyway.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 07:02 PM) I think his point was who even goes to that level to think of that based upon rate. Yes, it is a one letter switch, but I just don't think of that and just mentioning it / joking about that being a name (not saying you did) is just despicable in my book. Exactly. I just didn't even think of that was my point.

2016-2017 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 05:18 PM) Would the Chargers trade his rights for future picks? I'm sure there would be teams who would trade for him. They aren't allowed to trade him. Deadline passed. He'll either sign there or he won't and enter next year's draft and Chargers get nothing in return. Dean Spanos is worth $2 billion and is doing this over offset language. It's a joke. They expect Joey Bosa to take a deal that no other top 5 pick has taken under the new CBA.

Why do people keep saying guaranteed rate? I would not have even thought of that if not posted here. It's completely unnecessary, unfunny, kind of stupid.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 02:01 PM) Link? That seems counter to what the Charges stated in their press release, which is that he's getting the biggest signing bonus of any player drafted in the last 2 years. No s*** it does. They didn't include the fact that they want him to take a deal that no other top 5 pick has taken under current CBA. http://www.sbnation.com/2016/8/8/12402198/...go-chargers-why http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/agents-t...s-the-chargers/

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 01:45 PM) Wow, the Chargers are not messing around with the Joey Bosa contract negotiations: https://twitter.com/Chargers/status/768509903707123712 They are messing around. They are f***ing idiots. They want him to take a deal that other #3 picks don't take. They want him to take a deferred Signing Bonus but they also want to recoup money if he's injured or cut prior to his deal ending. If he goes back into next year's draft at age 22, the Chargers receive nothing in return. This is firmly on the Chargers at this point.

Interview with Alex Call, 3rd round pick

Jose Abreu
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 09:51 AM) Yeah, considering we are only 4 games under .500 with a pretty substandard Abreu for over half of the season, I think it is fair to say there are at least 2 more games he would have won us, which would put us back to .500 already (2 more wins, 2 less losses). I think a pretty convincing case could be made that that number could be more like 4-5 games if he had played at All-Star level Abreu. Exactly. 5 extra wins puts them at 65-59.

Jose Abreu
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 11:08 PM) The Sox would most likely not be very much better even with Abreu hitting better. Without a consistent 3,4,5 in the rotation and injuries to the pen the Sox have done OK to hang around .500. With Rodon pitching much better now and Jose hitting better and with Morneau the offense is now better and so is 3/5 of the starters but the bullpen is still a mess. A messy bullpen can undo quality starts and better hitting in a hurry. Completely disagree here. If Abreu were his typical self, the Sox would be .500 or better IMO. So many games when he just didn't do anything when they needed more. This version of Jose, Morneau in the lineup all season, and Ajax healthy, this team would be right around where most thought they'd be, which is a few games over .500.

Interview with Alex Call, 3rd round pick
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 08:13 AM) One of our newer writers, Owen, interviewed 3rd round pick (and very popular around here) OF Alex Call. He's on quite a tear, and here you get to hear him tell you why. We are interviewing a few high round picks right now. Coming soon: Jameson Fisher and Alec Hansen. Turning into AJ Pollack would be fantastic. I hope that happens.

Knee replacement doesn't make sense for him to be off air though. Boers has the DSN line connected in his home and does many B&B shows from his house. He could just continue doing this if it wasn't something more serious?

Dave Kaplan reports Kenny Williams holding back Rick Hahn
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) My guess is that Ventura will not return as Manager. Meanwhile, Hahn and Williams will continue to revamp the Scouting and player evaluation personnel after acknowledging how ineffective they have been. They will also seek to rework the roster by adding hitters if they can find them and try to bolster the terrible bullpen. No matter who is in charge, that is going to be a tall order. Too many players have under-performed (Frazier, Robertson, Avila, Shields, Fulmer) , diminished their trade value, and hampered management's ability to trade them. As far as the Sox being for sale, everything is for sale at the right price. Kaplan created a rumor out of idle conversation that he instigated or perhaps out of whole cloth. I doubt the Reinsdorf family would sell their interest in the White Sox for several reasons. One of them is the interconnection with their ownership interest in the Chicago Bulls and their various media Contracts and promotional ties that they share with the Bulls that provide advantages and allow them to maintain greater leverage. Reinsdorf has a couple of sons who might step in if he retires, like old man Joe Ricketts children did or like the continuity in the Yankees/Steinbrenner organization. Kaplan never said the Sox would be for sale. Bernstein did. Kaplan just said there was a rift between Hahn/KW. And the Sox responded immediately. Which they never do about anything.

Dave Kaplan reports Kenny Williams holding back Rick Hahn
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 10:28 AM) I think he has more of a say. He is the one doing most of the communication with other GMs, agents. How much more remains to be seen. It has been reported how his ideas have been rejected, but are they every idea? I doubt it. I'd venture to guess the Sox have done something the last few years that Hahn really wanted and KW and JR weren't so sure. I disagree with part of this. raBBit has stated that Melky was a Kenny Williams decision. That offseason is the one that looks really bad in hindsight. They weren't ready to give up 2 draft picks that offseason and pay a premium for a closer.

40 man roster
QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 09:01 AM) An overlooked fact on organizational depth is the 40 man roster and transactions impact. If Burdi is added to the major league roster he has to be added to the 25 and therefore 40 man roster. He doesn't currently have to be there because he is a new draftee. If he is added, that means one less spot for another prospect so someone who is exposed to the rule 5 draft this winter. I see no reason to rush him, use up an option year and start his service time clock. He has performed well enough that if you "go for it " next year he will likely be in the bullpen mix but if you go for a rebuild looking at him as a starter is probably worthwhile. He, Hanson and Adams could be seen as future mid or higher rotation options. So with that said, I started to look at guys on the bubble and was hoping someone may be able to give some info on three players David Holmberg LHP. 25 yo and quietly having his best season in the minors. He failed previously with Cincy in some auditions but has something clicked? A WHIP about 1.0 at AAA and averaging over 6 innings a start. Nolan Sanburn RHP 25 at AA. Looks like he is getting a look late this year as a starter. ERA in twos and WHIP around 1 for the last 4 months. Any hope? Peter Tago RHP 24yo at AA. Former first rounder came to sox in 2015 and looked liked they helped him. Was maintaining improvement this year. Lights out in June and July then couple rough outings in Aug and on DL. These look like players that could help a team and might end up exposed/selected in a rule 5 situation. Any info on Tago's injury or the players as prospects is appreciated. Tilson or someone else could go to 60 day DL. Multiple guys (Avila, Ajax, Morneau, and Navarro) will be off the 40 man in the offseason. It's not that big of a deal.

Dave Kaplan reports Kenny Williams holding back Rick Hahn
QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 22, 2016 -> 11:15 PM) Where did he say this? It was at the time but it always stuck out to me. Like Hahn was stunned that JR said yes to it. Probably on the radio. It was over 2 years ago.

Dave Kaplan reports Kenny Williams holding back Rick Hahn
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 22, 2016 -> 10:14 PM) Yeah, I remember him saying he told Melky's agent that he didn't know how they would possibly afford to sign him but that they wanted to know if he was interested in coming to the White Sox, just in case...they were odd comments for certain. Here it is: Hahn made a comment at the time about something he learned in law school. When you get an answer that you want that you aren't expecting, just turn around and leave the room. Basically, JR told him to sign the deal and instead of clarifying and asking more about it, Hahn said "thanks" and walked away. It's actually kind of funny the way he explained it.

2016-2017 NFL Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 19, 2016 -> 09:07 AM) I thought Bullard,Williams, and that other undrafted tackle that's huge looked good. Pretty certain Ferguson and Sutton will get cut, leaving the emery experience at Alshon Jeffery, Long and Fuller. But the "we had 4 defensive starters out", yeah, that's going to be the regular season. Timu and Anderson were as soft in coverage as ever and we were run all over. We have a thin level of players that win matchups and the rest we have to scheme around. We just have no depth for injuries. To be fair, Emery drafted Pat O'Donnell and Charles Leno as well.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 18, 2016 -> 08:19 PM) Meh. Soft middle, no rush, bad vs run. Pretty familiar. Their front 7 is much improved. No Trevathan either. Secondary is weakest spot on team but they couldn't fix everything.
