  1. QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 10:52 AM) So is he retired? He hasnt been in since the SB but they haven't announced any retirement as far as I know. No. He had a surgery. I was told he was done though. Handled weird. Maybe he'll stay til the end of the year?
  2. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 11:33 AM) or they could just go with a 5 man rotation of Sale/Q/Latos/Rodon/EJ and throw Danks in the bullpen as the long reliever. Early to me is the first few weeks of the season. If the Sox are in the hunt in July/August/September/October, then obviously we want the top 3 to start as much as possible. Would the Braves trade Markakis and some $$ for Danks?
  3. Steve Kyler was on MUlly and Hanley toady and seems to think Joe Johnson ends up in Chicago after he gets bought out.

This new Chicago Open Air Rock Festival at Toyota Park sounds awesome. I'm getting married that weekend though. Damn.
  5. QUOTE (SoxSteve @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 12:50 AM) No not everyone and i suspect alot will be angry. Jackson is a nothing pickup and he shouldn't even be mentioned IMO. Fowler or go big for Puig. Jackson would be my preferred pickup. Upgrades the bad OF defense immensely.
  6. Brats, Beggars Sausage Pizza, and the Tex Mex Burrito's are great. Everything at The Cell is fantastic though.
  7. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 09:36 PM) OK Back to rumors http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/jose-re...spension-021616 It’s difficult to imagine Desmond’s price dropping to the point where the Rays could justify forfeiting their first-round pick, No. 13 overall. The White Sox, meanwhile, are more focused on adding an outfielder through free agency or trade, sources say. The Sox, like the Rockies, hold a protected pick, No. 10 overall. They conceivably could sign both Desmond and free-agent outfielder Dexter Fowler and sacrifice their next two selections, currently Nos. 28 and 49. But they also might be content to play Tyler Saladino at short until top prospect Tim Anderson is ready, perhaps later this season. If Fowler and Gallardo go to Baltimore and Desmond goes to Colorado, the White Sox would choose #11, #27, and #47
  8. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) Very good way of looking at it. In that regard, the Sox pitching staff is even better than last year's by a wide margin on paper. There's a good chance that the Sox have the best rotation in the AL. Cleveland was #1 in fWAR last year and Sox were 2nd. Samardzija's 216 innings and K's did help though.
  9. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 09:55 AM) http://espn.go.com/blog/keith-law/insider/post?id=4736 Keith Law has some surprises in his top 10. It is behind paywall, so I'll summarize for those who can't access it. 1. Anderson 2. Fulmer 3. Adams 4. Michalczewski 5. Guerrero 6. Danish 7. Zangari 8. Leyer 9. Engel 10. Adolfo Leyer is the big shocker here as he didn't even make FutureSox top 30. Law notes that he is a "power-armed reliever" who has a good change-up. He was very complimentary of Zangari, saying he has "huge" upside. Law thinks Michalczewski can be average regular at 3B. Thinks Fulmer and Danish are both relievers. Still believes in Spencer Adams but velocity was low when he saw him in person. He thinks Engel is a 4th OF and also mentioned that Jacob May could be Sox 4th OF this season if they wanted him to be.
  10. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 09:33 AM) I wouldn't want Alex Guerrero if the Dodgers just gave him to the Sox for nothing. At this point he is just an older more expensive version of Avisail Garcia. ISO power % is better than Garcia
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 08:51 AM) There are plenty of things posted on Soxtalk that most of the staff disagrees with. The topics that can be handled with maturity and without personal attacks are not bothered. If that bothers you, there are plenty of places out there to discuss the Bulls. To be fair, White Sox game threads are worse than anything that was in that Fire Paxson thread.
  12. Every team is flawed. KC has bad starting pitching. The Twins have bad starting pitching. Indians might have the worst OF in baseball and the Tigers are 1 bad season away from being the AL version of the Phillies.
  13. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 01:52 PM) I honestly havent met a single person who says Obamacare has helped them. Mostly you hear people complaining that their job cut their hours or that peoples premiums have went up. It works fine for me but I'm a teacher and my healthcare is awesome. That being said, I do know a lot of people that had teaching degrees and couldn't find jobs. Being able to stay on their parents insurance until 26 really helped.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 11:45 AM) Not saying I agree with his points of view, but when he speaks, he seems to do so much more convincingly than a guy like Carson, for instance. I don't think the "it" factor is a measure of substance, but more so style. I guess but if the guy is a legitimate crazy person, why does it matter how well he speaks?
  15. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 13, 2016 -> 04:19 PM) Internet dancing on his grave. Justice Wainwright ‏@JusticeBlaine 15h15 hours ago Antonin #Scalia requested cremation in his will, but millions of women will meet tomorrow to discuss if that's really best for his body. Be offended if you'd like, but I think that's a quality tweet .
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 02:28 AM) Very sad. A human being has died, Internetworld. I know you don't care. But a good person is dead. Let's talk about him, not his replacement. Was he really a good person though?
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 10:12 AM) I think Cruz absolutely has "it." He's just a complete asshole. I think Carson would be better than some people give him credit for, but debating and speaking on the fly is not a strong suit. If I had to choose one, I'd choose Kasich as well. Nobody that makes all of his decisions based on religion has "it". Kasich is the only chance that the Republicans have at winning the general in my opinion.
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 09:41 AM) Boring weekend for FA rumors. I can't find any new write-ups on Desmond, Fowler, Gallardo or Jackson. Booooooring! That would be because they aren't willing to accept the offers currently out there. They'll have to lower expectations at some point in the near future.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 02:27 AM) Good debate tonight. Kasisch seemed most presidential IMO. Donald was on rinse, repeat with his insults and generalities about how everybody loves him. Cruz and Rubio? Like my criticism of Hillary, they just don't have "it." Jeb is dopey. I really like Carson. He's a more sane version of Trump. Outsider who wants to save the economy but won't insult people. It will be amusing to see Donald vs. Hillary. He's going to go on the attack, blasting her mercilessly. Jeb is pulling out all the stops having GW campaign in South Carolina with him. W is somehow favorably viewed down there.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 12:46 AM) Sure. Obamacare is a ridiculous disaster and health care in America still blows. His presidency has been the personification of unable to lead, unable to get anything through Congress, unable to work with Congress. Am I worse off now than when he took over? Gosh yes. As much as I contribute to discussion on here, I'm getting offended by being called a troll. So it's his fault that nothing gets through congress? It's a Republican Congress that doesn't agree with anything he proposes just because. That's a really s***ty reason. How are you worse off than when he took over? The country as a whole, is way better off than they were in 2009.
  21. QUOTE (Lillian @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 06:37 AM) Can anyone here provide a definitive answer to the question: Who is the better fielding SS, Saladino or Desmond, and by what degree? This thread has over 50 pages, but it seems to contain a lot of conjecture, with no real assessment of the comparative defensive of the two players. Do the Sox really want to spend money and a draft pick, to acquire a SS, who is not as good defensively as a young, inexpensive rookie, especially with Anderson waiting in the wings? As has been argued, the middle of the infield defense has probably been downgraded already, with Lawrie, in place of Sanchez. Downgrading the defense at SS may be to the team's detriment, even if Desmond puts up his career average offensive numbers. Saladino is probably the better defender. Desmond is the better player though.
  22. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 13, 2016 -> 06:26 PM) No not necessarily. In this landscape with all things being equal, a trade would be the preferred mode of acquisition. Is Desmond Jennings an obvious name?
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 13, 2016 -> 12:25 PM) I can't resist a good counterfactual. Haha I gotcha
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 13, 2016 -> 10:15 AM) read the whole thread. I wouldn't pick one. I'd vote for someone else. The question was if I had to pick one. I get that. There's no scenario in actual life where you "have to pick one" though. I guess that's why I was confused.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 08:56 PM) It's amazing. I'd love a psychologist to tell us why, but if Obama could run again and again, he'd win the next four elections hands down in landslides. I don't get the voting public. Obama was a disaster of a president and yet like you said, he'd win President for sure if he could run again this time and I stand by my statement he could win three more elections after that. Can you explain to me how Obama was a disaster of a president? Just off the top of my head: Took on a s***ty economy because of a mistake of a War by the previous president, 5% unemployment currently, gas is cheap, Caught Bin Laden (if you care about that), legalized gay marriage, health care costs have risen at the slowest rates in decades. I don't know if he's one of the best presidents ever but if you think it's a "disaster" you're either racist or very uninformed.
