  1. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 04:54 PM) Sands is also out of options. Sometimes that carries a little merit when making decisions even though it shouldn't. I almost wonder if the Sox would carry both Shuck and Sands and drop Olt. Sands can play 1B if needed, and I am sure they will try to get Sanchez time at 3B to make him a super-sub. Might even allow for Melky and Avi to play some DH (although I have no clue Sands defensive ability). They can't keep Sanchez, C, Garcia, Sands, and Shuck. They keep 4 bench players and go with 12 pitchers.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 03:46 PM) I wonder what Jackson is even looking for in terms of a contract. I have barely heard anything about him. At the very least you know he will catch the ball and run into one occasionally. Boras is probably holding out for a pretty good deal.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) Avi. RF is someone not currently on the roster (Ethier/Fowler/Jackson,etc.) If that RF is Ethier, then someone needs to face LHP for him as well. That's my point.
  4. As Dave Cameron points out, there are really only like 4 teams rebuilding (tanking) right now anyway: Braves, Phillies, Reds, Brewers.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 01:50 PM) No. They have guys lined up for the J2 in which they are going over. They have to sign him the next signing period or punt on the guys they have lined up. Check that, the answer is obviously yes. Yeah. Maitan and a ton of other guys that they basically have agreements with. They have a shot if they can push Lazarito down to J2 but it sounds like he's signing before that.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) I read before that he can sign Feb 10th, and that expectations were that it would be pretty quick after that. If he does sign next week, it won't be with the Braves.
  7. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 01:05 PM) Honestly, I think moving Eaton to RF would be a smart move. He has a lot of trouble reading liners in CF & I think that may be helped in RF. I know that I had a much easier time reading the ball period playing RF that I did play LF or CF. Just something about reading the ball off the bat. Eaton also has the speed & arm to play anywhere in the OF, so that's why it also makes sense. I think some people are really underrating how big of an impact Fowler could have if signed. It's almost a no-brainer to me. I thought Fowler was better vs RHP.
  8. I'm not positive that Fowler is a better defender than Eaton is.
  9. Can Rashan Gary punt?
  10. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 08:18 AM) Bulls Kings tonight has a Kings blowout written all over it. Cousins can drop 40 on our interior D. Bulls are better of with Kings winning. Need that draft pick.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 12:12 PM) Agreed. Unless Sands absolutely RAKES in Spring Training, I'd have to guess that he's AAA fodder for now. Fowler is just really appealing to me because he has a very good OBP and putting him behind Eaton and in front of Abreu could do wonders for the lineup as a whole. Ethier would have the same effect though.
  12. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 11:33 AM) Probably need to replace sands with Shuck. Shuck can backup cf. Garcia would either be traded or most likely optioned since he has one option left. Might be more of leury Garcia since he can play some outfield along with infield but that kinda makes weak bench Sands is really good vs LHP though. If Shuck is on that roster, who takes the place of LaRoche vs LHP? That's the problem.
  13. Nobody has answered my question. Lets just pretend that we added Ethier to the team for a minor leaguer. vs RHP 1. Eaton CF 2. Ethier RF 3. Abreu 1B 4. Frazier 3B 5. Cabrera LF 6. Lawrie 2B 7. LaRoche DH 8. Avila C 9. Saladino SS vs LHP 1. Eaton CF 2. Cabrera DH 3. Abreu 1B 4. Frazier 3B 5. Lawrie 2B 6. Garcia RF 7. Navarro C 8. Sands LF 9. Saladino SS This team would have a bench of Sands, Catcher Spot, Sanchez, and Garcia. It doesn't work. One of Garcia or LaRoche has to magically go somewhere if they add Ethier and they'd need a RHH OF.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 10:00 AM) Then the Sox are short a starting pitcher, needing both Johnson AND Turner to pitch well enough to compete. Danks isn't great, but he is going to give you 200 IP. That doesn't make any sense though because Shuck is also LH. Doesn't really help the situation at all. Who is the platoon partner for LaRoche? Who is the platoon partner for Ethier?
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 08:54 AM) And with that last announcement OSU is done for the day. I'm not sure how Tuf Borland will do in the Big Ten but he was an awesome high school player.
  16. Teams should be able to do whatever they want. Sometimes it is essential to get really bad in order to get really good.
  17. I'd prefer Ethier because of the lack of LH starting pitching in the Sox division. I've also been on record as wanting to keep the comp pick. That being said, I'm not sure how the roster shakes out with Ethier on it. You'd essentially need a RHH platoon partner for LaRoche and Ethier. Garcia could be the platoon bat for Ethier. Sands could be for LaRoche. You'd have nobody that plays CF on the bench though. I'm interested to see what happens.
  18. My buddy played baseball at UIC with Granderson. They played Stanford his Senior year. He told me that Quentin hit a ball that still hasn't landed. They widely speculated at the time that he was on juice. Man Quentin was a fun player.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 12:16 PM) It's Cowley so who knows how much is made up: http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/7/71/12...lf-preservation I've heard similar from an athletic training type that I know. He knows some of the guys at the Bulls. Jason Goff has been talking about this as well. Seems like Forman could be done at year's end.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) The Astros drew 7,165,030 over the past 4 years, helped by a playoff jump this year. They did a rebuild, lost major attendance numbers, yet didn't wilt away and die like everyone claims the Sox would. I don't think it's that they couldn't handle it. It's the simple fact that teams with Chris Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Abreu, and Eaton don't rebuild. It doesn't make sense.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 12:04 PM) Umm...even with those numbers, would you be comfortable paying $36 million over 2 years to a 33 year old who's essentially a platoon player at this point? I'm desperate, but not that desperate. I never said that the Sox should pay him $18 million per. Dodgers would have to eat some.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 11:01 AM) I STILL don't understand why everyone is so fascinated by Ethier. Yeah, he used to be good, but he's old and expensive now. Unless the Sox could package LaRoche and a REALLY low level prospect, I want nothing to do with him. Here's why: Ethier put up a 2.9 fWAR and had a wRC+ of 137 last year. He was really good vs RHP. Vs RHP: .385 wOBA, 150 wRC+, high .336 BABIP, with a .900 OPS.
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 09:18 AM) Man I loved listening to Thibs on Simmons podcast. Biggest problem of Hoiberg for me is he has a "system" and is not out there minimizing his teams weaknesses well. He basically puts the weaknesses full on display. They don't even run his system though. It's all iso's and guys taking turns getting theirs.
  24. QUOTE (ozzfest @ Feb 1, 2016 -> 11:24 PM) Is Hoiberg a bad coach? Maybe. But the conversation needs to shift to John Paxson and Gar Forman. They are the decision makers here. They pick the players. They pick the coach. They run the show. And this show sucks. The Bulls have ranged between B- and B+ for seventeen years now. That trend is going to continue as long as Paxson is running the show. Good post. I actually think this is the year that Paxson launches Gar Forman. Not sure what happens after that though. This team blows. They have talent but they are 12 guys running around with the same jersey on. I was a fan of bringing in Hoiberg and it isn't working currently. This team isn't that good though. It's a poorly constructed roster. I wish they would sell off what they could but they are so delusional about competing. No, it wouldn't look like this with Thibs. The end result will be the same with either guy though. Getting beat early in the playoffs.
  25. QUOTE (daggins @ Feb 1, 2016 -> 01:35 PM) well vs rhp Eaton Melky Abreu Frazier Ethier Laroche Lawrie Desmond Avila/Navarro and vs LHP Eaton Melky Abreu Frazier Sands Lawrie Desmond Avi or some other RH bat (Coats? Raburn????) Avila/Navarro I feel like either of those would be pretty solid lineups. Edit - with Saladino as the spare IF and Sanchez in Charlotte. You can't have a bench with Sands and Garcia though because you have no backup CF.
