QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 10:31 AM) Would a trade of Danks for prospects be a sign the team does not plan on winning again next year? I'd say yes that's what it means. You'd be totally weakening an already pathetic staff. Not true at all. It means they are trading Danks for what they perceive as value. Sox can sign someone to match Danks' numbers for a lot cheaper.

The Cubs management isn't penciling all those guys into spots. The fans are. Cubs will keep some and trade some. Hopefully for their sake they keep the right ones. They have enough of them though that some will hit and be star players.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 09:51 AM) I would agree with that. When you are measuring upside though Barnum has a ton of upside and Ravelos is pretty limited. The MLB.com article says that the Sox have given Barnums power an 80 grade on the 80 point system. In my mind Ravelo's closest ML comp right now would be Gaby Sanchez. EDIT: Barnum is by far one of the biggest boom or bust guys in the system, if he hits you have a gold mine. Ravelo just doesn't have that upside, Ravelo does have a much better chance of reaching the majors though his ceiling right now would seem to be a bat off the bench. Could Ravelo be similar to a RH Nick Johnson type offensively?

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 08:53 PM) Here is the link.: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/cws/new-dr...p;vkey=news_cws And the list (bottom line is they always favor athletes -- guys who can run -- over baseball players -- guys who can hit): 1. Rodon 2. Anderson. 3. Montas 4. Johnson 5. Hawkins 6. Adams. 7. Danish 8. Davidson 9. Michalczewski 10. Sanchez 11. Beck 12. May 13. Thompson (not in Ravelo's class as a hitter) 14. Engel 15. Barnum 16. Lopez 17. Zapata 18. Ortiz 19. Mitchell 20. Smith I think Rondon should be on this list also. From everyone I talked to including Nathaniel Stoltz and others; his defense is so good that if he stays above the Mendoza Line he will be a for sure big leaguer.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 07:05 PM) Boston got a top 75 prospect for Peavy and his FIP is worse than Danks.....Contractually we're talking about 2 differently players though...If they can't get anything good for him it's because of the contract and not because of how "awful" he is....And if that's the case, I wouldn't trade him. Ehh. Escobar is like a #4 or #5 starter.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 01:19 PM) You said it yourself man, they hate him. Do your really want to be the guy trying to change public opinion with OPS talk at this point? You literally have to watch EVERY game to see Dunn's value by adding up walks. Most fans turn on a game or go to a game and more than likely see Dunn do absolutely nothing. I'd say I get to watch about 3/4 of the games, which is arguably more than most fans, and even I feel like he is rarely in the middle of something interesting. I feel like if we don't trade him then the Sox will honor the contract. I'm all for a trade of Dunn and a Paulie-led charge to the playoffs The opinions of stupid people don't matter to me though. The people booing Dunn and cheering the ghost of Paul Konerko fit in that category as far as I'm concerned.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 10:55 AM) I am sure that is part of what happened. The reality is that all of that should have stayed behind closed doors. After that, if you are willing to bid more, just give him what you agreed to. Don't wait until the last minute to try to pressure him into a discount. Either that, or stick to your minimum offer if you are really sure that the medicals are accurate. Close wanted to make it public though. He represents Aiken and Nix. He had the leverage.
-
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 11:30 AM) Yes. The Sox fanbase will applaud the end of Dunn no matter how it goes down. Like you, I say just pull the plug ASAP if at all possible. Haha the same people booing Dunn are out there cheering on the ghost of Paul Konerko.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 11:05 AM) Were also talking about cutting a guy ( Dunn) who isn't producing, hasn't been producing, most fans are not happy with and will likely/ thankfully not be with the Sox next season. The Sox have more to gain by giving Wilkins a look than 2 more months of Dunn. Even of Wilkins shows he's not the real deal at least the Sox will know going into the off season. Who knows, maybe some team like the Pirates come calling looking for a guy like Wilkins and the Sox can grab some kind of young raw pitching talent. I agree its more than likely Wilkins doesn't amount to much in a major league uniform but the Sox stand nothing to lose by cutting their losses with Dunn ( if he isn't traded) and see what Wilkins can do. I am not counting on Wilkins, just willing to give him a shot is all. Dunn has an .804 ops. Sox fans are so f***ing stupid. I was at the game the other night and people can't stand Dunn. Cheering the fact that they get to see Paulie one last time. I wanted to bang my head off the table.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 09:18 PM) Fluke minor league performances happen all of the time. Yeah how about it? Wilkins has some talent because he was a 5th rd pick. He plays 1B and is 6'1. He hits LH which is a plus. His wRC+ at Charlotte is 129 and he has a wOBA of .373. He's been raking lately. I don't take 1st base prospects seriously unless they can absolutely mash. Wilkins also carries a 5% walk rate and will turn 26 in September. He deserves a September look but isn't really a prospect at this point. I hope I'm wrong.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 08:33 PM) PG- Rose SG- Martin SF- Butler PF- Love C- Noah Bench: Gasol, Dunleavy, Brooks, Snell Butler and Noah can carry us defensively and that team ain't losing a game in the east. I bet Bulls could land guys like Marion, Marshon Brooks, or Ray Allen for the minimum as well.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 06:50 PM) Question for Mr. Wite: IYO, who is the better prospect today, Davidson or Wilkins? I'm not wite but absolutely Matt Davidson is the better prospect. He's 22 years old and plays 3B.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 06:46 PM) So am I the only one that seems to think Tony Dungy is clearly a homophobe? I've got people all over FB defending him. No he absolutely is. -
Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 10:38 AM) 52 walks in 45 innings? Wow. I can't wait til he's released in a year and a half and then the Sox sign him and he's a useful bullpen piece haha -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 10:02 PM) gmab. Kevin Garnett had mostly crap around him and had to go up against the shaq/kobe lakers, prime duncan spurs, webber/peja/divac kings, dirk/nash mavs, portland was pretty good from what i remember and still made the playoffs every year outside of a couple. I like love a lot. But he's become overrated ever since LeBron went back to cleveland. He's a net-minus defensively and doesn't do anything to make guys better around him. I personally don't give up a potential t-mac on offense, paul george on defense for him. I agree with J4L too. Love is good. I think Wiggins is going to be a superstar though. If he was offered, the deal would be done in my opinion.

Almora going to AA Tennessee. Soler going to AAA Iowa. That Iowa team is loaded.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 02:38 AM) He's done. He has very few home runs this year for a power hitter. I commend him for today's key hit, especially if he was trying to go that way, but he's been an utter disaster on the south side. Dunn would have close to 20 homers if he played more. You are ridiculous man. You come here and spew out nonsense. Just say you hate Adam Dunn. That's okay. It's allowed. Dunn has definitely been a disappointment. What's more disappointing to me is that the White Sox owner strong armed the front office into lowering Adam Dunn's overall value by the insistence of Paul Konerko (who actually is done; finished playing baseball for a living) being on the roster. Now that's a pointless move. But you don't care about that. You would rather sit on your couch in Lawrence and root for PK while dreaming of 2005 instead of having the better player in the lineup.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 01:16 AM) I wish I didn't hate him so much so I could think more objectively. Any positive stat that he has annoys me to the point of wanting to disprove its actual credibility. Like OBP. Getting on base is good. But I don't ever see him get on base so wtf is this stat talking about? At least you are honest, man.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 12:42 AM) a question to those who know. how is the competitive balance picks are awarded? Competitive Balance picks will be awarded at the lottery draft on Wednesday at 1 pm. Eligible teams are the Athletics, Brewers, Cardinals, D-backs, Indians, Marlins, Orioles, Padres, Pirates, Rays, Reds, Rockies and Royals. They are awarded to small market teams.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 09:11 PM) Well, that's true....but I read that thread on my Samsung Galaxy chat phone, and here in China I couldn't get the article to open. Recently, google.hk hasn't even been working. The only reason I was able to find all the Aiken articles was because I was in Thailand from the 12th-20th. Haha just giving you a hard time, man. Want me to copy and DM it to you?

The Boras Story was posted in here. Easy to read. A pretty good plan too. LDF and Caulfield both said they did not read the article that was easily posted in here and very clearly readable. Then they both posted information that wasn't in the article and asked questions about things that could have been read. I love Soxtalk.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 07:51 PM) I pretty much agree man. There are some excited fanbases out there for sure. I know you can't measure pressure really but the only evidence, signing with the Sox, points to him wilting under the weight of it. He wilted so bad that it got people fired and changed the direction of this team forever, including s***ting on the end of Konerko's career. All GMs know that AD to the Sox was one of the worst signings in the history of the game. Why would another GM risk that 0-30 that happens a few times per year? The odds of him being the "missing piece" to another team are so small that the risk of him being a giant failure has to outweigh that enough to laugh at the idea. Well, here's to hoping some GM thinks AD's 2-run single tonight is the beginning of a surge. Dunn isn't anywhere near what he was in his prime. He can still do damage against RHP though. He would fit in nicely in Oakland for sure. You will choose to ignore this because you hate Adam Dunn. Just pointing it out though.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 01:01 PM) It is taking the Astros extra pick into account, and I believe that protection does extend to 11 because of that. There is a lot of baseball to shake out and I expect the Sox will probably climb a few more spots as teams like Miami, Boston, Tampa, and the Mets put some wins together. I think it will be hard to climb much higher as most of the teams beyond that are content with tanking. The current order is: 1 Texas 2 Houston (comp) 3 Colorado 4 Cubs 5 Houston 6 Arizona 7 San Diego 8 Philadelphia 9 Minnesota 10 Miami 11 Mets 12 Boston 13 Tampa Bay 14 White Sox 15 Kansas City 16 Cleveland 17 Toronto 18 Yankees 19 Cincinnati 20 Seattle 21 Pittsburgh 22 Milwaukee 23 St. Louis 24 Baltimore 25 Dodgers 26 Atlanta 27 San Francisco 28 Washington 29 Detroit 30 Angels 31 Oakland Supplemental picks will be awarded at the lottery draft on Wednesday at 1 pm. Eligible teams are the Athletics, Brewers, Cardinals, D-backs, Indians, Marlins, Orioles, Padres, Pirates, Rays, Reds, Rockies and Royals. Those are not comp picks. They are called Competitive Balance picks and they can be traded immediately. I would love if the White Sox could acquire a pick or two. Also, Only picks 1-10 are protected regardless. Whoever finishes with the 10th worst record will choose 11th and therefore be screwed. It happened a couple of years ago. The Mets wanted to sign Bourn and couldn't because they would have lost the 11th pick.

I'd do Santos and Deck McGuire for Beckham at this point if Santos wasn't owed $6 million next year. Yikes.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) He's "capable" of playing the 2. But so is Rose, you can still have a 2 guard lineup with either of the backups I would have preferred. If there is any benefit to pairing rose with an offensively deficient 2 guard who shoots 32% from long range, we would have seen it with Keith Bogans. And it's great Hinrich has better career playoff ppg, but I'm not sure anyone cares what he did 10 years ago. I care about what will have happened with this crap player from years 2012-2016 when we'll have paid him $12 million to offer 9 ppg and 4 assists as the starting, primary ballhandler for 2 of those years. Thibs can hide terrible players defense much easier than he can make Kirk hinrich an average offensive player. Can't really play Rose and Augustin together. Tiny backcourt and both are bad defensively. Bringing back Hinrich was a good move. They replaced Augustin with a minimum player in Aaron Brooks anyway.
