  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) The problem is that it's a biased look. Wittman has never liked Hawkins and is now seeing something that reaffirms his original belief. I was debating Wittman on twitter and now Stoltz got dragged in as well. Here was Wittman's last tweet. CJ Wittmann ‏@CJWittJr 8m @stoltz_baseball @chrisrod13 @JamesFox917 MLB extra is the ceiling Expand He says that Hawkin's ceiling is MLB extra. I have some JR High players in Homer Glen that I'd like him to predict the futures on for me as well. I think that Hawkins floor is lower than MLB extra but the ceiling is still higher.
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 02:05 PM) The only way that happens is if Hoffman goes 1 or 2 and Rodon is demanding way over slot. Honestly, I think Hoffman will be available at 3 and he'll be our pick. He just makes too much sense for us. Agree. I think Houston and Miami both take the HS arms at 1 and 2. Sox go with Hoffman at #3 and Cubs take Rodon. Obviously this will all change.
  3. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 02:27 PM) Agreed. Wittmann also sounds especially negative/snarky on Hawkins which is unpalatable. He does like Anderson though. Both of these opinions are in line with Jason Parks at BP for what it's worth. The problem is that it's a biased look. Wittman has never liked Hawkins and is now seeing something that reaffirms his original belief. I was debating Wittman on twitter and now Stoltz got dragged in as well.
  4. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 04:47 PM) Why was Garcia not pinch hit for in the 8th?? I would much rather have Semien or Konerko or even Flowers. Players who can hit the ball out of the damn infield. Robin has made some very questionable calls so far this year. One big one was not challenging the home run None of those guys bat LH……………...
  5. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 01:50 PM) There's decent evidence suggesting heavy slider usage leads to velocity loss and elbow or shoulder injuries. I understand that but he isn't anywhere close to what he is without that 80 grade slider.
  6. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 01:00 PM) Hawk gone? Huff is in today. Hawk is sick.
  7. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 12:01 PM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/vin...ukes-van-orden/ "Duke senior David Perkins, who had 20 at-bats entering the game, led off the second inning by pounding an elevated 95 mph fastball over the fence in dead-center field. In the third, Mike Rosenfeld doubled to right-center on another elevated fastball, and Jordan Betts drove him in on a single through the drawn-in infield on a 96 mph heater. “When I leave the ball up, I just beat myself,” Rodon said. “That ball that, I don’t know who it was that hit that home run, the ball’s up. You throw a slider there, he’s out. You throw a fastball down, he’s out. That’s probably the only ball he’ll ever hit off me. Sounds like Rodon is kind of a douche. Would having a "mean streak" be the scouting term? "Rodon, of course, owns the most explosive slider in college baseball, and it was at its best Friday, devastating the Blue Devils at 86-89 mph. BA’s Clint Longenecker recorded 55 sliders from Rodon, and 67 percent of them were strikes—and a staggering 54 percent of his slider strikes came via swings and misses. Over the first three innings, he also showed his best fastball velocity, sitting at 94-96 and touching 98 once. But it was elevated in those early innings, and Duke took advantage." 55 sliders? No wonder his fastball has been less than impressive this year. I read that a scout would recommend whatever team draft him to force him to not throw sliders or very few during games to make him get outs with his fastball, cutter, and split-change. Ehh. Just sounds confident to me. Also, doesn't he have an 80 slider? Why wouldn't you want him to throw his best pitch?

  9. Outfield seats for tonight are $10 and $12 using the code UNIV.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 08:29 AM) If they could compete with him, they can certainly compete without him. I expected them to be under .500 with him. I think the only chance of the Sox having playoff chances involved him being a monster this year though. Without that as an option, I don't see anyway this team competes for a playoff spot. That's not necessarily bad though. It's fine.
  11. QUOTE (Dunt @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 08:15 AM) If the Sox can escape April with a .500 record or better, I think they can make a serious run at a playoff spot. Need to bullpen to be air tight and Johnson and Paulino to be better, but the talent is there. I don't think they can without Garcia.
  12. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 08:06 PM) Man. The defense is sparkling. If he develops a hit tool, look out. The kid will be just 20 years old on Sunday as well. Very promising young piece.
  13. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 10:36 PM) Looked alot like an AC injury from the way he hit and the way he held it. Herm did all the right tests it was difficult the results. Hopefully its' just a mild one. If the X-rays didn't show a separation it shouldn't be too bad. Since it's a torn labrum, does it matter that it's the left shoulder rather than the right shoulder?
  14. QUOTE (peppers312 @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 02:13 PM) let's put things in perspective for all those who thought the White Sox were actually competing for the Central. the biggest hit from this is (like someone said before) Avi losing the development time this season. like it was said before, we have him under control for years. we weren't going to win anything this season, so let's not give up on this team just yet. there are still pieces in place that might be serviceable for the 153 games left. LOL Jordan Danks had a GREAT spring so we know he can play ball...maybe he's more ready than Avi to play every day...? who knows. all we had going into this year was an IDEA of what Avi could produce. maybe we can get a little of that production between Danks, Viciedo and De Aza. it's a shame for sure, but it's not the end of the world. One of the main reasons in which I watch these games is out for the season. I didn't think they'd compete either but there only chance at competing included Garcia in the middle of that order. Not to mention the fact that everyone wanted to watch him play.
  15. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 01:59 PM) This sucks. What a buzz kill. I retract my statement of us contending until September. De Aza and Viciedo need to step up big time I was immediately back in high draft pick mode. I want to turn on the games to watch Abreu, Eaton, and Semien. I am looking forward to Matt Davidson coming up and Chris Sale starts. Other than that, I will check that Winston Salem box score and hope that Hahn can dump a bunch of guys by the deadline. What a f***ing downer of a day.
  16. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) The Jake Peavy curse continues. Obviously the biggest worry is Avi, but I guess De Aza and Viciedo are here for the year now. Certainly haven't had much luck with the trade candidates between some playing like s*** and being forced to keep others. Nonsense. If you get a good offer for them you just make the deal and play Danks in the OF.
  17. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 01:03 PM) Keth Law Chat included some White Sox tidbits. Paul (Chicago) If they draft were tomorrow how do you see the first 3 or 4 picks playing out? Klaw (12:15 PM) Aiken, Kolek, Hoffman, Rodon. I've heard the White Sox like Trea Turner more than most teams, but I wouldn't expect them to take him with every college arm still on the board. Eric (Memphis) If you were Rick Hahn, would you take Hoffman over Rodon (assuming Aiken and Kolek were already selected)? Klaw (12:42 PM) It depends on the cost, but if it's equal I'd take Rodon. Hoffman's a tremendous athlete with arm strength, but the secondary stuff isn't at all consistent and he needs a lot of work. Of course, Don Cooper will give him a cutter and he'll end up in the top 5 in Cy Young voting for 2016. I read this earlier. Taking Trea Turner over any of the pitchers would be awful. I'd be so angry.
  18. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 02:30 PM) Cubs Prospects that i think will do good: Javier Baez (high errors, tho), possible all-star Arismendy Alcantara (leage-average) Kris Bryant (over-rated, but possibly above-average) CJ Edwards (sleeper) Not sure about: Mike Olt Cubs prospects i think will suck: Brett Jackson (bust) Albert Almora (don't see anything in him) If you don't see anything in Almora you are either being ignorant or you may need your eyes checked. Obviously he could bust but I think he's the best bet of having a long ML career because he could play CF defensively in the majors right now.
  19. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 12:28 PM) Untrained eye of course, but when I look at video tape Hoffman looks the best. Aiken is impressive as a HS, but that would be too big of a risk for this outfit. Marty, I actually think that the 2 HS pitchers look the best. I would agree that they are the riskiest though. I would be perfectly fine drafting Jeff Hoffman #3 overall.
  20. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 01:05 PM) I'll be fine with Hoffman or Rodon, but I really want Rodon if he actually slips to us. I don't want Rodon if it costs the entire draft pool to sign him.
  21. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 10:04 AM) It looks like the Yanks aren't the only team planning on overspending. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1375072.html According to Kiley McDaniel, there are several deals in place and some of those deal exceed a teams entire pool. Adrian Rondon -ss - $3.5M - Tampa - Pool is $1,998,100 Gilbert Lara - 3b - $3.2M - Milwaukee - Pool - $2,611,800 Anderson Espinoza - rhp - $2M - Boston - Pool - $1,881,700 Ricky Aracena - SS - $2M - Kansas City - Pool - $2,136,800 Juan Meza - rhp - $1.5M - Houston - Pool $5,015,400 - plenty of room to spare The top player in this years class appears to be Colombian CF, Bryan Emery who supposedly has a $3M offer but no word on any deal. Landing Huascar Ynoa would be awesome.
  22. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 10:48 PM) He messed up his shoulder in a game last week as well. Maybe he needs to learn out of to dive without planting his shoulder into the ground? I don't know though, as a former pitcher/infielder I know next to nothing about diving in the outfield but it seems like he's putting too much weight forward. Maybe he should just lose some weight so he doesn't have to dive so often. I have seen enough of him in the OF to wonder whether or not he'd be a 1B sooner rather than later.
  23. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 08:14 PM) keithlaw ‏@keithlaw 1h Hearing LHP Brady Aiken, the top prospect for this year's #mlbdraft, is dealing today, hitting 96 at least six times already If true, wow. Hitting 96 repeatedly as a HS lefty with advanced secondary stuff? Aiken supposedly has 3 pitches that grade 60 or higher. Insane.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 07:19 AM) http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20140409 Hope Tyler Danish is a morning person. Nathaniel Stoltz on twitter was saying that Danish was touching 92 in his last start. He lost a lot of velocity towards end of season last year. If he can sit around 92-93 with that delivery, I think that he can be pretty effective.
  25. The K rate for Hawkins is still concerning but he looks better at the plate. He has massive power. Very promising start still compared to what ended up happening last year. Davidson is trying to force his way to Chicago. Jared Mitchell is awful. I love checking that Winston Salem box score because of all the talent down there. One last thing, Rondon has been very impressive. If he can hit at all, that Peavy trade could be a major coup.
