QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Mar 23, 2014 -> 09:24 PM) Those tweets are pure music. The '13 draft has a chance to be a goldmine. In the BP article, Parks states that he thinks Tim Anderson will be best suited at 2B though but says that he has no doubt that his hit tool is + and he has a chance to develop + power sometime into his ML career. He said that Anderson should have been in the top 100. He also raved about Miles Jaye, saying he should have definitely been in the White Sox top ten.

Jason Parks @ProfessorParks 4h #WhiteSox RHP Myles Jaye working 92-95 w/ FB showing good late arm side life; SL at 81-83 with long wipeout break. Liking this a lot. Frasor for Jaye and Webb was a really good trade.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 23, 2014 -> 11:29 AM) I sense that there are a few regular posters here who are grieving over the release of Boggs, since they were very enthusiastic over his signing. I liked the Boggs signing. He was pretty bad though. Didn't have the stuff he used to have.

QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Mar 23, 2014 -> 11:24 AM) I see Cleto making it over Putnam for sure but I wouldn't mind Purcey as a long reliever/third lefty in the pen considering we really don't have any long-reliever options left if both Webb and Cleto make it. Webb will be up by mid-season easily anyway. At this point, I would go with Jones, Belisario, Lindstrom, Downs, Veal, Cleto, and Webb. Let Petricka close at Charlotte.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 23, 2014 -> 11:08 AM) Also, how are guys like Zach Putnam and Blake Tekotte still there? Well both guys are non-roster invitees. The release of MItchell Boggs does take the 40 man to 39 though.

Roster Moves today Colleen Kane @ChiTribKane 4m White Sox announce moves: Davidson, Jordan Danks, and Petricka to AAA. Axelrod to minor league camp. Plan to release Boggs.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 23, 2014 -> 09:24 AM) All the more reason to then. Hawk is a boob. There is no doubt taking a high school pitchers presents a huge risk because of their age, lack of playing top competition, overuse, maturity, on and on, but if you're scouts say the high school kid is the BPA, you take him despite him being a high school pitcher. As evidenced by his various gripes against sabermetrics, Hawk's opinion these days is about as valuable as a nickel. Absolutely. Tyler Beede is probably going to be a solid #2 starter. If the Sox think that Kolek or Aiken will be #1 starters, then my philosophy is to take the HS arm. Not sure that they will and I know some people will differ with me on that. It's just 2 different philosophies. The people that say to take the most sure thing college arm aren't wrong either. Should be an interesting few months.

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 22, 2014 -> 06:47 PM) Saw Hawkins bat a few times today. He has no plate coverage at all. Unless it's on the inner-half, I can't see how he makes contact. I have been kind of an apologist for Hawkins but he had two horrible at-bats yesterday. He looked completely lost.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 22, 2014 -> 04:58 PM) So are they really back to looking at Axelrod as a 5th starter, with Surkamp and Rienzo out of camp for now? I'd almost rather see Beck working with Cooper for one year and going through all those struggles than that. Heck, might as well start Boggs or Cleto. No. Paulino will be the 5th starter. He has looked good at times. He will go into the season in the rotation and go from there.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ Multiple outlets are reporting that the Marlins are talking about trading RHP Jacob Turner due to their pitching depth. Would anyone here deal Viciedo for Turner? Turner is arbitration eligible in 2015 and doesn't hit free agency until 2018. The Diamondbacks are one team linked to Turner in talks with the Fish.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 20, 2014 -> 11:06 AM) Cust was also fat, slow, and terrible defensively. Baez plays 2B/SS and is 46 of 55 for his career in stolen bases. Baez should be a regular at the MLB level. Regular? I'll go with 1st division player. The guy is going to hit 30+ bombs a year and play in the middle infield. I know as a Sox board many of us love to pretend that some of these Cubs prospects aren't exciting but I refuse to take part in it. Wite, this is by no means a shot at you, I'm just saying. I usually cringe in the Cubs thread because of the stuff I see.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 20, 2014 -> 02:40 AM) Like the poster above stated, it's all about service time. Plus, Gillaspie didn't really have all that bad of a rookie year... Did he? The problem is that Gillaspie should probably only face RHP. If Keppinger could play 3B and they went with a straight platoon, it'd be fine. Ventura would let Gillaspie face a LHP so often last year though. Look at his splits.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 02:07 PM) The rotation is set. So nobody is on the bubble there. Bullpen locks if healthy--Lindstrom, Belisario, Veal, Downs, and Jones (yes, Veal is a lock) Bubble: Axelrod, Cleto, Boggs, Webb, and Petricka. Putnam and Purcey will get cut. I'm thinking Axelrod stays as a long reliever, and Cleto stays because he's out of options. Boggs is the wild card. He may just be let go, since his agreement with the Sox was that he had to make the 25-man. Webb and Petricka will get sent down, but we'll see them before too long. Position--right now, no room for Davidson, Micah Johnson, Liddi, Jordan Danks, or Tekotte. But a trade could open something up for Danks. Keppinger's injury probably means Leury Garcia goes north. Beckham's injury could help Semien make it. This seems about right. Best case scenario would be a bench of Konerko, Catcher, Danks, and Leury Garcia with De Aza and Keppinger traded. Wishful thinking at best though. Sounds to me like Nieto will be on the team as well. Couple of pieces today written about how good of a game caller he is.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 12:54 PM) All future World Series chances will be ruined because Paul Konerko is on the roster and guys like Semien and Garcia have to play in Charlotte instead of sitting on the bench in Chicago. Plus Jordan Danks might find a new organization. How awful. Be condescending if you wish, but it's still a stupid ass idea.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 11:09 AM) Still waiting for the big 3B/IF backup battle as well as the De Aza/Viciedo/(Jor[Dan)ks] battle. There really isn't a battle unless there's a trade. It looks like it will be Konerko, Nieto, De Aza, and Keppinger. Semien may make it if Beckham is unavailable. Garcia could make the team if Keppinger starts on the DL. Danks may make the team if De Aza is traded. These are the things that happen when a team's owner forces the GM to keep an aging veteran around as a mascot.

Keith Law had an insider writeup on C Alex Jackson . Pretty positive outlook. Law says he'd just move him to an OF corner and let him rake. He says that Brady Aiken looks really good. 6'4 LHP that throws 94-97 with a plus curve. He mentioned that Aiken will be in the top 5-6 mix when it's all said an done. Law also says that the Marlins have been linked to Tyler Kolek and the Cubs to Tyler Beede.

Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 55s Mike McDade, who was released from camp by #WhiteSox, immediately signed with #BlueJays on a minor league deal.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 10:22 AM) I don't disagree with anything you're saying here, but picking as high as 3, you want results as well as projection. Guess I'll just have to post the articles as they appear. Friendly wager says he's not top 5. It should be interesting, man. I am glad that I don't have to make the decision. We are in agreement that obviously the team needs a difference maker though. It has to be the right guy. I am just glad the buzz is dying on Trea Turner. I was never really a fan.
-
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 07:11 AM) 5 ER according to the box. Highly doubtful. Rodon, Beede, and Kolek, at a minimum, would be picked ahead of him if the draft were today. Hoffman may turn it around, but you can expect quotes and articles very soon about him tumbling down draft boards. He'll still have plenty of fans, though. This is not true. It's a projection business. Jeff Hoffman has the stuff and athletic profile to be an ace. Beede is safe which is fine as well. Kolek is awesome but already massive and his secondary stuff isn't great. Hoffman looks to have problems with his mechanics and repeating his delivery. That is a White Sox specialty. I would take Hoffman over Beede because of the stuff but if Hoffman is gone, Beede woudl be fine with me. Watch Jacob Gatewood as well though. The kid could be a superstar, franchise builder type.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 05:13 PM) Its possible. IMO Flowers is worthless to this franchise but hey, what do I know. Rock, how likely is it that Francisco Cervelli is the White Sox catcher for at least this year?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 01:34 PM) Fister? Damn near killed her! I like the, "Fister? I didn't even know her". -
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 07:10 AM) I think Baez will be an absolute superstar. I think he'll make enough adjustments to keep a reasonable K rate. Though the pitch he hit last night was about as meaty as meatballs get. Bryant, OTOH, while having only a slightly higher K rate in MiLB, looks like he could be a K machine in MLB. Not completely sold on that one. Oh see, I'm more convinced about Bryant than Baez. I think Almora is the most likely to not bust. He plays great defense in CF. Baez will have insane power at a MI spot but may struggle with the obp and BA. Soler could be the bust of the group. Bryant I think will be a superstar though.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 09:02 AM) Uh, Scott, polarizing implies that their are strong opinions on both the like and dislike sides of the equation. I'm pretty sure only relative shades of dislike exist for Donkey among the fanbase. The sad state of pseudo-journalism. Not true. I don't dislike Dunn. I like him actually. I hope he hits 30 homers in the first half. WAtching him hit moon shots is fun. He was one of my favorite players when he was in Cincinnati. The guy was a monster offensively for a long time. Just hasn't worked out here. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 12, 2014 -> 07:59 PM) I have a feeling it's going to be a Gillaspie/Semien platoon at 3b this year, with Semien getting some starts at 2b as well. How though? Where is Semien's roster spot coming from? As of now, barring a trade, the bench is De Aza, Konerko, Keppinger, and a catcher. Without Keppinger on the roster, I'm assuming it'd be Danks or Leury Garcia. Semien will most likely be starting at AAA with Sanchez, Davidson, and Wilkins in the IF.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 08:24 AM) Boy that's one big cookie of encouragement for all you Dunn lovers who believe some team is going to swoop in and pick up part of this guy's contract. The other 29 see those stats, too. They also see this mindset, from the guy who was more or less dumped in his free agent year and who famously for a year or two had his desire for playing the game of baseball constantly questioned. UC, you are a funny man. You are a great grudge holder.
