QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 01:05 PM) I'll be fine with Hoffman or Rodon, but I really want Rodon if he actually slips to us. I don't want Rodon if it costs the entire draft pool to sign him.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 10:04 AM) It looks like the Yanks aren't the only team planning on overspending. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1375072.html According to Kiley McDaniel, there are several deals in place and some of those deal exceed a teams entire pool. Adrian Rondon -ss - $3.5M - Tampa - Pool is $1,998,100 Gilbert Lara - 3b - $3.2M - Milwaukee - Pool - $2,611,800 Anderson Espinoza - rhp - $2M - Boston - Pool - $1,881,700 Ricky Aracena - SS - $2M - Kansas City - Pool - $2,136,800 Juan Meza - rhp - $1.5M - Houston - Pool $5,015,400 - plenty of room to spare The top player in this years class appears to be Colombian CF, Bryan Emery who supposedly has a $3M offer but no word on any deal. Landing Huascar Ynoa would be awesome.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 10:48 PM) He messed up his shoulder in a game last week as well. Maybe he needs to learn out of to dive without planting his shoulder into the ground? I don't know though, as a former pitcher/infielder I know next to nothing about diving in the outfield but it seems like he's putting too much weight forward. Maybe he should just lose some weight so he doesn't have to dive so often. I have seen enough of him in the OF to wonder whether or not he'd be a 1B sooner rather than later. -
QUOTE (southside hitman @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 08:14 PM) keithlaw @keithlaw 1h Hearing LHP Brady Aiken, the top prospect for this year's #mlbdraft, is dealing today, hitting 96 at least six times already If true, wow. Hitting 96 repeatedly as a HS lefty with advanced secondary stuff? Aiken supposedly has 3 pitches that grade 60 or higher. Insane.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 07:19 AM) http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20140409 Hope Tyler Danish is a morning person. Nathaniel Stoltz on twitter was saying that Danish was touching 92 in his last start. He lost a lot of velocity towards end of season last year. If he can sit around 92-93 with that delivery, I think that he can be pretty effective.

The K rate for Hawkins is still concerning but he looks better at the plate. He has massive power. Very promising start still compared to what ended up happening last year. Davidson is trying to force his way to Chicago. Jared Mitchell is awful. I love checking that Winston Salem box score because of all the talent down there. One last thing, Rondon has been very impressive. If he can hit at all, that Peavy trade could be a major coup.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 01:29 PM) Come on man, Dan's an asshole, especially to his own audience. I've listened to the guy off and on for 2-3 years now and he's just getting worse. Give me more examples then. You listen to Chris Collins, Grant Hill, Loul Deng, Laettner, anyone at ESPN, etc. and it's nothing but candy and roses about Coach K and the program. So far I've heard of one negative opinion from a blowhard on the radio. The lack of evidence tends to indicate the lack of an issue. But if you have more examples or can find some more verified examples I'm open to being wrong here. I hate Duke and I don't really care for Coach K (more so because of jealousy for how good Duke has been and how he comes into Chicago and takes talent out of state). I'd be more than happy to s*** on them if it's warranted. Haha really? It's a different situation obviously but nobody ever said a bad thing about Paterno either. It's that emperor mentality.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 09:57 AM) Unless he was standing at the building watching Reggie Rose walk in to take Derrick's SAT's, I am not sure how he stops that one. Derrick Rose had absolutely no business taking an ACT or SAT.

Will Gillaspie sit vs the LHP today? I'll say the lineup is: Eaton, Semien, Abreu, Viciedo, Garcia, Konerko, Flowers, Garcia, Johnson

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 09:33 AM) That's always his excuse though. He's dirty. Always has been. Give me a break. It's college athletics. They are all dirty. If you coach college hoops or football you have most likely done something pretty sleezy at some point. It's part of that business.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 07:58 AM) Possibly from having Final Fours vacated at UMass and Memphis due to ineligible players. Oh okay. I think he's aware of the state of college basketball though. He recruits the best kids in the country and when they are projected to be high picks, he recommends that they go pro. I'd take Calipari any day of the week over some sanctimonious piece of crap like Krzyzewski or Boeheim. Boeheim just last week criticized Tyler Ennis for going pro. He'd rather have Ennis stay, not to benefit Ennis but to benefit Boeheim. K got one of the best players in the country (Jabari Parker) to play at Duke this year and rather than run offense through him, he basically called him out after their opening round loss to Mercer. If these coaches don't want guys to leave after 1 year then stop recruiting the best players in the country.
-
QUOTE (dasox24 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 10:52 PM) Thank you, UConn, for denying Calipari another championship. What does this hatred stem from? Just curious. I've never really understood the Calipari hate.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 01:34 PM) What better time to start developing you own position players than now? I understand your point. I agree too. I wouldn't take a HS hitter at #3 with the pitching available in this draft though.
-
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 01:14 PM) I think that is a horrible mindset, and if you're a GM with that mindset you're never going to set your team up for long term success. Everyone needs pitching. They aren't good at developing hitters.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 12:54 PM) Unless Rodon slides them a number that makes sense (slot, at absolute most), they will not draft him. They cannot afford to lose this pick. I agree. I think that Rodon will end up with the Cubs if Houston doesn't take him.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 12:49 AM) Craft got Defensive POy I'll miss him, but not as much as I thought years ago. Go to medical school young man. This is what I hate about these awards though. Really? Who is the better defender Aaron Craft or Andrew Wiggins? Aaron Craft or Joel Embiid? Not a chance that Aaron Craft is the best defensive player in the country. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 04:46 AM) He was working with as a member of the KU staff with top flight talent...we'll see if that continues as he tries to recruit elite players to a once-proud program with names like Tim Duncan and Rodney Rogers. He spent the last 2 seasons coaching Tulsa though, right? -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 10:11 PM) Kentucky with some amazing athleticism there from Poythress. (And somehow, no turnovers for the entire 2nd half with such a young team). Well, having 6 McDonald's All-Americans in one class, what do you expect? Really don't want to see them rewarded with a National Championship again, that's not good for the sport (although the media loves to talk about it). How is it not good for the sport? Elaborate please

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 10:26 AM) Yeah, I can't buy that a team with 10 losses, and 6 of those in the SEC was underseeded. Coming into the dance they had one win against a rated team, and four losses against non-rated teams. I know this team has more talent than any team in the dance, but they had not played to that talent before the tourney. Kentucky was preseason #1 as well.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 09:55 AM) Indy may have the market size to support a team, but I don't think it's realistic. Indiana just isn't a baseball state, and you have the Reds pretty close by with the Cubs/Sox also not too far away. I think the Indians draw like 8,000-10,000 fans per night. Is that good for a minor league team?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) @Variety BREAKING: David Letterman retiring http://on.variety.com/1j68pel @SeanMMcNally Relevant to Letterman's retirement: Jon Stewart's contract expires mid-2015. Colbert's the end of 2014. http://nyti.ms/1hFNNtC From what I've read, it seems like Stephen Colbert is CBS' first choice. I also read that Chelsea Handler was negotiating with CBS though. I know that Craig Ferguson's contract states that he gets $9 million if he doesn't get the Late Show. My guess is that Colbert gets the Late Show, Handler gets the Late Late Show, and Ferguson takes his money and does something else. It's a shame because Ferguson is awesome but he doesn't give a s*** about his show anymore and I'm pretty sure he has like zero shot at the Late Show.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 09:43 AM) Someone said OKC and Indianapolis were the two best markets in terms of local t.v. rights/shares. Always thought Charlotte would be viable. Louisville, Salt Lake City and Buffalo used to have the biggest AAA attendance once upon a time. Las Vegas, but they have the same issues with non-permanent residents/tourism as the Florida teams do. And just too hot in the middle of the summer, unless you build a domed stadium, and nobody really wants those anymore. That said, nothing can touch the Chicago media market in terms of competitive advantage, even for the second team in a city. Las Vegas, Charlotte, and Indianapolis all have minor league teams that draw very well. I thought I heard about rumors of the Rays moving to Nashville? I think Nashville would be a great place for a pro baseball team.

QUOTE (SnB @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 08:14 AM) I'll be in town for a work trip this week and will be catching Tuesday's game. Any recommendations for food/drink/where to sit/etc. I believe I have parking all set up, so no worries there. And yes, I totally did schedule this trip around catching a game. Coors in awesome. There are a lot of places in the downtown to eat right there and parking was really easy when I have gone. Rocky Mountain Oyster's are good if you like that sort of thing. The Coors Brewery is about 40 minutes away in Golden, CO if you have time for a trip. It's a pretty cool place.
