  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 15, 2014 -> 02:54 PM) Right, and these leaks are going to make sure they tell him things with 100% accuracy because it benefits everyone that each team knows exactly what the other is thinking. C'mon man. His information is for entertainment purposes only. He is the Chris Broussard of baseball. Minus the hatred for homosexuals of course.
  2. Rob (Lime Rock, CT) Tyler Danish has been impressive so far this year. I know the delivery is far from ideal, but do you think he stays as a starter? Potential # 1 stuff or is that too optimistic? Thanks Klaw (1:50 PM) Reliever for me. Great stuff, but you don't see any MLB starts with that slot or arm swing. Law didn't really like Danish coming out either. Thought he was pegged for the bullpen but many guys think that.
  3. QUOTE (southside hitman @ May 15, 2014 -> 11:03 AM) http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/draft/mock/...-Law-Mock-Draft Keith Law's first mock draft has a shocker, he has the Marlins selecting Alex Jackson at #2 and the Sox passing on Rodon for Tyler Kolek. I'll post his thoughts on the top three picks... For Brady Aiken to Houston: Analysis: I keep hearing the Astros are down to three names: Aiken, Carlos Rodon, and Alex Jackson, with local product Tyler Kolek likely on the outside of that final set. The decision may come down to money -- they'd like to repeat their successful 2012 strategy, where they save $2 million or so on the top pick and reallocate the money to later picks (they have No. 37 and No. 42 this year) to acquire more first-round talents who slid into the sandwich/second because of their bonus demands. For Alex Jackson to Miami: Analysis: The Marlins are on the same three names as Houston, plus Tyler Kolek, but the word around town is that Miami is focusing heavily on bats throughout the draft. The Fish have the most money in their draft pool of any team this year, with extra picks at 36 and 39 as well as their regular pick at 43, and could do just what Houston wants to do, cleaning up with as many as four first-round talents if they play their money right. I've also heard them with Bradley Zimmer, but I think he's a tweener for them -- probably not as good as their best options at No. 2, and clearly long gone before they pick again. For Tyler Kolek to Chicago: Analysis: The White Sox want one of the big three arms, so even though early favorite Jeff Hoffman is on the shelf after Tommy John surgery, they'll still get someone they really like. The bet here is that they'd do better financially with Kolek than with Carlos Rodon, but I wouldn't rule out the latter. Everything I'm projecting here is about probabilities, or possibilities, not certainties. I was coming here to post about this. Keith Law has Rodon to the Cubs, Gordon to the Twins, Conforto to the M's, Nola to Philly, Freeland to Rox, and Toronto taking Touissant and Hoffman. He has Fedde falling to 18 with Washington and Pittsburgh taking Beede at #24.
  4. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ May 14, 2014 -> 08:56 PM) I don't like complaining about the refs but goddam do they let LeBron/Heat get away with murder and if you do the same to them, it's a foul. F*ck Joey Crawford and those idiot refs from last night. Haha Lebron and the Heat get the same calls that Jordan and the 90's Bulls got.
  5. QUOTE (TRU @ May 15, 2014 -> 08:32 AM) I don't remember claiming they were a great team, but they have certainly been better than the Bills over the same time frame. They were 2 games better than the Bills last season and that was with losing to Thad Lewis and those same Bills twice. Now that they have the offensive line fixed, and Tannehill wont have to worry about getting sacked 58 times, they can improve on what was already a pretty good season last year. You may think its hilarious, but you know damn well you would kill for a Bills "Fluky" season where they win 10+ games and the AFC east FWIW, I think the Jets will finish 2nd in the AFC East.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2014 -> 08:51 PM) He's been unable to string together good at bats since the first week of the season. For now, Gillaspie seems to be the 3B of the present and future for this organization. People keep saying this about Gillaspie. I don't think someone with those R/L splits is in the future of anything other than a platoon at 3B.
  7. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 14, 2014 -> 05:49 PM) Conor Gillaspie is quietly putting together a very good season. He's been solid with the glove and he's doing what he needs to do at the plate to be a MLB regular. That was a freaking steal by Hahn. The guy always had 1st round talent, just needed a place to find it. If he turns into a good player for us I will give Ventura a lot of credit. Gillaspie is a platoon player. He should never face LHP.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2014 -> 10:42 AM) How many other coaches would have let this bunch to anything but the lottery? Thibs is a top coach in the NBA, no doubt about it. Absolutely. I think Thibodeau is probably the 2nd best coach in the NBA after Pop. He has flaws though. The minute loads are a big deal though. It is possible that his teams will never be healthy enough in the playoffs to win anything because of his "win all 82" mentality.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 14, 2014 -> 08:05 AM) There is literally no name anywhere that will produce a response other than "furious". Fine, maybe Popovich, but no plausible name. If the Bulls come to the conclusion that Thibodeau will never win a title because he beats his players into the ground or Thibs decides to go somewhere else and they can hire Fred Hoiberg, I'd be ok with it. I love Thibodeau but in the NBA players matter so much more.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 14, 2014 -> 09:09 AM) lol, i dont know how McNeil could tire of Speigel, he has only showed up to work with him about 40 percent of the time Mac has been great since returning but that's because he is probably on borrowed time. I believe Mac's contract expires in June and he has stated that he will not be working this summer.
  11. Boers is awful. Mully and Hanley are awful too. Still though, I never even turn on 1000. That lineup is garbage. Waddle offers nothing in the afternoon and the other stuff is bland radio with too much national radio. 670 will have some lineup changes fairly soon. I think Boers will finally retire but there's really nobody to put with Bernstein. Holmes tanked the ratings on McNeil's show and there's still a chance that Danny Mac will jump to WGN. Seems like McNeil is tiring of his own partner as well. I think that Bernstein and Goff together in the midday slot would work giving Mcneil afternoon drive. I have no idea who Mac's partner would be though.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 14, 2014 -> 05:44 AM) It's pretty funny that the Cubs are in a bad position now because they swept the White Sox last year. Ironic. And if the White Sox go with ANYONE outside the big 3, they better have the best #44 pick in the history of the draft and sign him for overslot with the money they save on the #3 (someone like Hoffman or Fedde, for example). Baseball America reports that Fedde, who was recently shut down with an elbow injury, will be undergoing Tommy John surgery. Like Hoffman, you can consider Fedde now off of the board for the Cubs in the first round. The top names remain high school pitchers Brady Aiken and Tyler Kolek, college lefty Carlos Rodon, and high school position players Nick Gordon and Alex Jackson. There are some other interesting college arms – Aaron Nola, Kyle Freeland, Brandon Finnegan, and others – but none appear to be in quite the same tier as the guys expected to go at the top (or with Hoffman/Fedde, either, apparently). Like Hoffman, Fedde is considered such a strong talent that it seems unlikely he’d slip all the way to the Cubs when they pick again at number 45. If he did, of course, he would probably receive strong consideration by the Cubs, because the upside is almost certainly worth the risk of post-surgery recovery. The only question with a guy like that at a pick like that is whether he’d be signable for something close to slot (which won’t be much more than $1 million). As I said with Hoffman, it’s hard to see a guy improving his draft stock too much after a year of merely rehabbing, so the decision not to sign could be the decision to risk the recovery period and a year of pitching in independent ball before being drafted again. That’s quite a risk when stacked against $1 million and a year of rehabbing with the best possible treatment. Fedde will be a name to watch, then, on that first draft day, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up at 45. bleachernation.com If Rodon, Aiken, and Kolek are all gone, I think the Cubs will take Alex Jackson at #4. People will be angry because you just can't reach for pitching if Jackson is the best player on the board.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 14, 2014 -> 01:30 AM) When are we gonna call Adam Dunn an elephant in the room. He's good for five home runs and 12 ribbies right now. Oooh. Such power. Such production. NOT. Well Dunn's .823 ops is 3rd highest on the team behind Abreu and Ramirez.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 9, 2014 -> 06:30 PM) So Jerry gets all that income as well? There's no reason the Sox aren't huge spenders in this s*** division. Let's face it, there are some Jerry apologists on here. He got us a WS title so I like him for that and all the Bulls titles, but let's face it, he is not a "good" baseball owner. He's just not. I won't go into all the rea$ons but it's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Sorry Greg but you aren't allowed to suggest that the owner spend more money. You jump at the chance to mention how expensive everything is at the baseball game nowadays but in the same token, you want the owner to spend more $$ on players. There is quite a disconnect here.
  15. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 10, 2014 -> 10:21 PM) Obvious Mizzou bias here, but yes. He's undersized but has some real damn broad shoulders and a Joakim Noah motor. He was a projected 2nd/3rd rounder when the season ended, plummeted when he came out. I mean, unanimous All-American and SEC Defensive Player of the Year mean nothing to the NFL...but he played really f***ing good last year. I forgot Kroenke owns the Rams. He lives in Columbia and has Mizzou ties, so it makes sense that they'd take the chance. Well him coming out wasn't why he plummeted though. Dude had a 25 inch vertical and ran a 4.9 forty at the combine. His workout was awful. Hopefully he works his ass off and makes the Rams. It's going to be an uphill climb though.
  16. This thread has just been depressing me lately. If Rodon and Aiken go 1-2, the Sox are in a tough spot. Apparently they don't want Kolek. If that's the case, I don't want the Beede's or Nola's of the world at #3 overall. I would either take Alex Jackson or draft Jeff Hoffman anyway if I could get him underslot. It's better value. Maybe I'm crazy.
  17. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ May 9, 2014 -> 02:23 PM) It sounds like there is much love for Hageman here, too, although I've heard him repeatedly described as "boom or bust." I'd be happy with him at #51, but leery about giving up picks to take him higher. Supposedly, Bears had him top 15 on their draft board
  18. QUOTE (bshah723 @ May 9, 2014 -> 02:06 PM) Ok, well on second thought posters from where I found this tweet say he throws a lot of things on the wall, hoping one would stick. TFWIW I have a couple of guys that get Bears info semi regularly and they told me that there is some smoke there. They want Hageman. Shocked that he's on the board.
  19. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 9, 2014 -> 12:58 PM) Who do they have a top 15 grade on. My guess would be Ra'Shede Hageman.
  20. QUOTE (scs787 @ May 9, 2014 -> 11:32 AM) I'd kinda hate seeing a RB, I know Forte has some injury concerns so it does make some since, but I'd rather wait till the 4/5/6 and grab a guy Tyler Gaffney or Marion Grice. RBs in this league seem to be a dime a dozen. TE would be fairly interesting but with DT and S needs looming, depending on who is there, I'd probably wait. I still have my heart set on the Bears taking Colt Lyerla and hoping that pairing him with Long keeps him out of trouble. In my book ideally it goes... 2R- Hageman/Tuitt 3R- Brooks 4R- Bullough (I've sort of been against drafting another LB but I suppose with Briggs probably gone next year it doesn't hurt) 5R- Lyerla 6R- Gaffney 6R- Bromley I want Lyerla as well. If they go MLB, I think it will be Yawin Smallwood from UCONN. They worked him out and Pasqualoni was his college coach.
  21. QUOTE (scs787 @ May 9, 2014 -> 10:44 AM) Motor and lack of production. His measurables are off the charts though. 6'6" 310 pounds, long 34 inch arms which make his 32 reps at the combine that much more impressive. He was near the top 5 in just about every category at the combine. In the 1R I wouldn't have been that big a fan of the pick, but in the 2nd I'd be all over him. Tuitt would be nice as well I'm hoping for Situation A 2R- Hageman/Tuitt 3R- Joyner/Brooks/Vereen/Reynolds/McGill/SJB or Situation B 2R- Joyner/Brooks 3R- Ried/Quarles/Sutton/Jones I really think that there's a chance they go RB or TE tonight. I'd be totally fine with DT in round 2 and Wyoming S Marqueston Huff in rd 3 though.
  22. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 9, 2014 -> 10:45 AM) Hageman has a strange past so people consider him a risk. But (imo) he has undeniable talent. I just don't see any way that Hageman gets to #51.
  23. Man people are going to be really mad tonight when Emery takes a DT and a RB. I can't wait. If the choice is between Florida State FS Terrence Brooks and one of the DT's that fell, I'd take the DT any day of the week. Emery supposedly really likes Wyoming S Marqueston Huff as well the chance to convert a CB to safety later on. (Phillip Gaines of Rice, Keith McGill of Utah, and Walt Aikens of Liberty) are all candidates for this. Dream scenario for me is Arizona State DT Will Sutton at #51.
  24. QUOTE (dasox24 @ May 8, 2014 -> 10:42 PM) f*** you, Emery. 3rd straight year you've done this. What the f*** are you doing? And with that, all of the Safeties are gone. We're stuck with what we have. Conte and Mundy starting at Safety. Yikes. What a joke. Hope he's f***ing happy. I like Fuller. But not at 14. And not when the top two Safeties in the draft are still on the board. Further, this is a very deep CB class. Could have gotten a "contributor" in the 2nd-3rd round. In the 1st, you have to take an immediate starter. Not a guy you "expect to contribute." That Emery quote just pisses me off. It's like when he talked about McClellin being a guy who could contribute on special teams. f*** that. You need to take immediate impact guys in the 1st round (unless it's a QB). Then the Packers take our man Clinton-Dix and laugh in our faces. He'll end up picking off Cutler and we're all going to hurt because he could have been ours. I can just see him making some big play to beat the Bears and send the Packers to the playoffs. They beat us on the field and in the off-season every year. I'm getting sick of it. FULLER IS A STARTER! HE WILL PLAY NICKEL IN YEAR 1 AND BE A FIXTURE AT CB AFTER THAT. Lots of stupid going on in this thread.
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ May 8, 2014 -> 10:11 PM) Every time you lost more scouts have claimed he is top corner. Id take Gilbert ten times and twice on Sunday before Fuller. Not a chance in hell. Gilbert doesn't tackle and is not physical. My CB's have to be able to tackle.
