QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 7, 2014 -> 10:46 AM) Semien could use some time in AAA, and he needs to play every day, so he's the logical choice. Who will play 3B vs LHP for the time being?

This is pretty good. Some will hate it because they hate Bernstein. Some will hate it because they hate Dunn. As a Dunn fan, here it is. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/05/07/ber...bscuring-truth/

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 7, 2014 -> 10:01 AM) My guess would be that: Gillaspie replaces Sierra Eaton replaces Danks Keppinger replaces Semien Sierra has no options though. He'd have to go through waivers.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2014 -> 10:19 AM) Seth Lakso @SethLakso 13m Conor Gillaspie doesn’t appear to be with Knights for today’s 11:05 start. Fairly safe to assume he’s on his way to Chicago. Looked ready. Will it be Semien going down today or Danks? Should be interesting.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ May 7, 2014 -> 09:19 AM) Gillaspie is not in the lineup. My guess is that Danks will go down and Semien will stay for now. Then Semien will go down when Keppinger is ready.

QUOTE (juddling @ May 7, 2014 -> 06:55 AM) As much as i've been enjoying S.H.I.E.L.D, I still think The Blacklist qualifies as my favorite new show...........last few episodes have been great and Spader is money.... James Spader is awesome on that show.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 6, 2014 -> 08:28 AM) She was combative from the time she said hello. And then she accused M&H of being argumentative. Argumentative? Those 2 clowns usually aren't even awake. -

QUOTE (bmags @ May 5, 2014 -> 11:23 AM) Thursday supposed to be crazy storms. Not sure a game will be played. With the NFL Draft Thursday and the Blackhawks potentially sweeping the Wild that night, it could be rough attendance wise. I won't even have the baseball game on tv on Thursday. -
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ May 6, 2014 -> 01:26 AM) You're Rick Hahn and Aiken and Kolek are off the board, who do you take at pick #3? Depends on the $$ of the next few guys.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 5, 2014 -> 09:06 AM) With the draft being two weeks later, it makes it even more painful to me that it's now 4 days long. I really miss just bingeing on a Saturday and Sunday. I don't even remember what college football is at this point, let alone it's players. It's still 3 days. Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

On scheduling killing the Cubs/Sox series

QUOTE (Hawkfan @ May 5, 2014 -> 07:49 AM) I think the Cubs Sox series is one of best parts of the season. I can't remember why there is such a large hatred/indifference for the series. Someone please remind me so I can get back to my normal state of anger. I hate it because it brings out the stupid. Random people make comments about who won each game and it's just pointless. If the Sox could pound on their own division, I'd be fine with losing to the Cubs every year. They aren't a rival. They are in the NL. -
QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ May 4, 2014 -> 08:08 PM) I'm not a huge proponent of rushing prospects (although I thought challenging Hawkins last year was the right move), but I don't see any reason to keep Danish in Low-A Ball anymore. It doesn't appear that the hitters in the SAL really pose a challenge to him, his 1.00 WHIP and 2.0 GO/AO this season suggest that he's breeze through most of the lineups he's facing now. It'll be interesting an interesting choice for the Sox to make when Montas comes back, it'd be a great opportunity to promote Danish and see what he can do in the Carolina League. I believe that Montas will start tomorrow.

QUOTE (shoeless_joe21 @ May 4, 2014 -> 08:12 AM) Rondon is up to 9 errors on the season now. Hopefully it's just that he's trying to do too much. It's so funny how great defensive players often make errors on the most routine plays. It must be hard to maintain focus when you've reached an elite level of skill. It's because he gets to everything. He has incredible range. He gets to more balls, therefore he makes more errors. It's the reverse Jeter effect. Jeter doesn't have very good range and because of that he didn't make many errors.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 3, 2014 -> 12:35 PM) Trying to save a few bucks hasn't worked for this team in the past and it most likely won't if they try cheap with their first pick. Just take the best player. Nobody is expecting or advocating that they be "cheap" with their #1 pick. People are just saying that it would asinine to spend close to the entire draft pool on it. It's not going to happen so we can argue all day. If Rodon is on the board at #3 and his representation wants 1:1 money, they will not pick him. Then he will go back to school. It is almost impossible to pay him $8 million unless you are the Astros or Marlins.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 02:59 PM) Nathaniel Stoltz @stoltz_baseball 3m Kannapolis RHP Tyler Danish 89-91 T92 in the first, 85-89 T91 after, plus sink, SL 77-82 flashes plus w/tilt, okay CH 77-82. Danish's actions on the mound are more fluid than last year. Arm action's still unorthodox, but I think the motion works as a whole.q Here is Stoltz's writeup on Danish http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/prospect-wa...den-and-araiza/

QUOTE (LDF @ May 2, 2014 -> 11:23 AM) but the subtraction of players now in the majors will indeed drop the rank. yeah we will improve via the draft. not enuf in the short term. No way. They will be higher. They will add two pretty hight picks. Also, guys like Rondon, Engel, Michalczewski, Danish. I think Sox can be in the #15-#20 range easily.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 2, 2014 -> 11:15 AM) I always get reminded of Aaron Crow around this time of year, declining the Nationals offer as a college senior and going to play Independent ball for a year. I suppose that someone (Cubs), (Mets) could cough up the coin but they'd be taking College SR's rest of the way.

QUOTE (LDF @ May 2, 2014 -> 10:51 AM) and that was Boras strategy, if player A falls b/c of contract concerns ...... he still would be asking for the same money even if player A kept on falling. with the new draft and slot money I still wonder if agents will try to find a way around it. Here are the options in my opinion. 1. Rodon goes 1:1 and gets paid. 2. Rodon goes later and takes slightly over slot money. 3. Rodon doesn't go #1, demands #1 money, and goes back to NC State.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2014 -> 10:30 AM) He came over in the Peavy/Garcia deal. The kid is supposed to be one of the best gloves in all of baseball, with no bat at all. The hope is for him to do some hitting, and if that is the case he might fast track himself to Chicago. This year he is hitting really well albeit at Low A. The thing is though, if he hits at all he will be a big leaguer. His glove is that good.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 2, 2014 -> 10:46 AM) Honestly, if you look at the expected production of players outside Round 1 relative to the player selected at third overall (and especially if you consider him No. 1 on your Prospect Board), putting all your eggs in one basket might be the best strategy. Completely disagree. If Rodon costs you #1 pick money at #3, you almost literally cannot do it.
-
The best case scenario for the White Sox if Rodon wants 1-1 money is him going 1-1 to Houston. That guarantees the Sox either Aiken or Kolek.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 2, 2014 -> 10:01 AM) Yeah, that's plausible, but I don't see it happening with us this year. Two of Rodon, Aiken, Kolek, and Jackson will be available. If it was only Hoffman (assuming the injury risk remains), Nola, and Beede, I could see them possibly reaching for an underslot choice. Yeah I agree. The Sox are guaranteed Rodon, Aiken, or Kolek. It would be awesome if Hoffman was this years Sean Manaea and slid all the way to round 2. Never going to happen but if he's actually injured, I wonder if it could benefit the White Sox in the long run.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 2, 2014 -> 09:36 AM) It's too early to know if that's the case. Besides, after Morales-Drew-Santana-Cruz debacle, there's rumors that the union will move to renegotiate draft pick compensation as it makes no sense what so ever. Do you agree though that if those guys sign Qualifying Offers, the Sox can't do it? They won't be in position to give up that draft pick. Now there's a chance they will be picking in top 10 again and then you could make an argument that it'd be worth giving up the 2nd rounder. Luckily, we are a long way off from this.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2014 -> 09:22 AM) I would say whoever they draft automatically assumes the #1 prospect in the White Sox system. Yeah most likely. Rondon will be in the top 10 though correct?

QUOTE (scs787 @ May 2, 2014 -> 01:35 AM) This post was lost in the shuffle.... Another interesting angle is that "European coaching legend" Ettore Messina has reportedly thrown his hat in the mix of potential head coaches. What's interesting about that is he used to coach Mirotic, so that could make him(Mirotic) more inclined to come over which could be huge. Past Messina there are also a ton of other solid names out there. Lionel Hollins, who I think would be a great fit(Seeing as the Bulls and Griz play so similarly), is out there. Jeff Van Gundy could return to coaching. Byron Scott who's a lil meh. Then the intriguing first year NBA HC guys like Kerr, Ollie, and Hoiberg. I think it'd be a real interesting year to do this If Thobodeau is gone for whatever reason, I think Fred Hoiberg would be next coach of the Bulls. Forman has Iowa State ties to him and I believe Hoiberg bought Gar Forman's house or Gar Forman bough Hoiberg's Chicago home. One or the other.
