  1. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 11:29 AM) Okay so I am confused about the bonus rules here. Someone before posted that we have to offer 90% value of a given slot or we lose the pick. 1) Is this true? 2) If so, do we *have* to offer 90% slot value to the player we select with that pick, leaving the 10% sum for overslots? 3) If the above is not true, could we theoretically offer 10% slot value to the player we select, then offer 50% of the value to our #1 and the 40% remaining to our #2? So we can go up to but not over $100K on every pick from 11 on, and we also have an overage. So theoretically if we get enough underslot guys we can take BPA at #11 and use leftover pool money plus our overage, assuming we have pool money available? No you don't have to offer within 90%. The Sox 3rd rounder is slotted at like $700k. They could easily draft a HS senior in rd 3 and pay him $100,000.00 if they wanted.
  2. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 11:28 AM) Darius Day out of Simeon as well. He's a supreme athlete. He singlehandedly beat my team when he was a freshman. Stealing bases and running all over the outfield like a gazelle. I saw Godfrey pitch against my HS team and velocity/command deteriorated after the first two innings. Just one outing but I was really underwhelmed by him. Was it this year? Godfrey had a pretty down year. He did beat Sandburg yesterday however. He used to be a Notre Dame commit and is now committed to LSU. I think he'll go pro though.
  3. A couple local guys to keep an eye on today: Providence Catholic RHP Jake Godfrey and Libertyville C Evan Skoug.
  4. I don't really want to see Rodon on the big league roster this year. Give him a few minor league innings at Kanny and Winston Salem. I could see him starting next year at Birmingham and moving quick though. Is that unrealistic?
  5. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 10:06 AM) Thoughts on Michael Cederoth for the upcoming pick? I would be fine with it if it's cheap. Fast moving college reliever.
  6. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 01:29 AM) The Sox can get 3/4 Dunn's production at 1/4 the cost and maybe better production just from Viciedo. There is zero chance Dunn is back. I'm not even saying Viciedo is anything special -- thing is, neither is Adam Dunn at this point. What, his bounce back year is 230/330/500? That's simply not worth what he'll want to get paid, and that's best case scenario as far as his production. They will not get close to the number of walks Dunn takes. It's about Dunn's ability to not make outs. He typically makes less outs than most guys on the team.
  7. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 10:47 PM) I heard it was a 50% chance we sign both of them, so I didn't know how to take that. If you don't sign him, you lose the slotted amount in the pool. That would leave the Sox pretty bare. They will sign him.
  8. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 10:42 PM) But what are the chances we actually sign him? I'd be shocked if they don't sign him.
  9. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 10:11 PM) So what are the rules after Round 10? Is it back to the Wild West like under the old CBA, draft whoever you want wherever, throw all kinds of money at them? The slots go away but are there max amounts you can offer? Any pick over $100,000.00 counts against pool. Many teams though, draft some college seniors in the top 10 rounds for really cheap so that they can overdraft after round 10 using the pool money.
  10. Anybody interested in AJ Reed at #44? Power-hitting LH 1B.
  11. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) I agree, I think if the Astros go Aiken I'm going to be a saaaad panda I'd much rather see Kolek as an ace for the Twins than the Cubs, because I at least respect the Twins organization & their fans are smarter. I completely disagree. The Twins are a division rival and the Cubs are not. Also, if he ends up being good for the Cubs, I would see him pitch more because he'd be on television more often locally.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 11:25 AM) Kolek? Jose Fernandez
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 12:07 AM) Why did that bother you so much? Have you heard other announcers not named Scully? They are horrific for the most part. Total homers for the team they work for. Hawk and Stoney were awesome telling it like it is last night when the Sox pissed away that game. Other crews don't go there. Hawk always points out s***ty play. The broadcast is a tough watch. They have one of the best analysts in the game but Hawk has to make the broadcast about himself. I learned last night that Alexei Ramirez is better than Troy Tulowitzki. Can't get s*** like that anywhere else. He's making fans dumber at this point.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 06:52 AM) So, both Sox and Cubs are on CBS stations now For now. I think the writing is on the wall for the Sox to be elsewhere after 2015 with the Cubs going to 670.
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 09:21 PM) 26.6% K% for Kris Bryant could stand to go significantly down. No need to rush him when he has an obvious thing to work on. Haha Bryant has a slash of .351/.455/.688 with an .OPS of 1.143 and 18 jacks. Just stupid good.
  16. Ben Badler ‏@BenBadler 2m Another home run for Jose Abreu. Not like this guy was a secret. Marco Paddy and the White Sox just flat out beat other teams on him. There are a few guys on this board who continue to say that Marco Paddy didn't bring in Abreu though......
  17. I would be totally fine with a pitching heavy draft. http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/mlb-dr...-just-no-3-pick
  18. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 02:24 PM) I respect a team wanting its players to look reasonably 'sharp'. Who needs all the excess facial hair. Just play the game. Be a role model. Oakland did it (facial hair) in the 70's and it was kind of cool, but when everyone does it, it is just a bunch of copycats. Maybe the chicks like it; Lillian can opine here. Same with the necklaces made of what looks like woven fabric. Copycats. Maybe the chicks like that, too. Just play the game, and button your shirts, Napier and Gomes et al. Athletes aren't role models. At least they shouldn't be.
  19. Some rumors on twitter about a predraft agreement between Marlins and Alex Jackson.
  20. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 12:48 PM) Thats interesting, almost uniformly the talent evaluators are saying he won't be able to catch in pro ball and will have to move to 1B, but most have him pegged to come off the board in the 15-25 range of the first round as well. He might be able to handle LF but he won't be catching in the majors.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 10:36 AM) Christopher Kamka ‏@ckamka 10h Mark Buehrle & @jose_quintana24 tied for MLB lead among lefties with 10 quality starts this season. Yep. If Q were pitching for Toronto, the W-L record would look better. Not that it matters.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 08:40 AM) Increased versatility is a good thing for players to have, not bad. It's the eternal optimist in me, but I think a high end comparison for Semien could be Ben Zobrist. Zobrist has always shown better contact rates, but I don't think it's far fetched to assume that Semien could be very productive with the bat. That'd be a really good career if he were as good as Zobrist. Zobrist has had two seasons as an 8 WAR player and has accumulated 32.9 WAR in his career. Zobrist is very good. I hope Semien could be close to that good.
  23. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 07:11 PM) You want the Sox to start losing every single playoff series they're ever in? No but i'd like to be there as often as they are.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 06:17 PM) Traded, I might add, as a low level minor league throw in from the Cubs in the Rich Harden deal. That is one I think is important. When you trade away guys, steal some lottery tickets from a team's lowest minor league levels. Donaldson was also a catcher at the time of that trade.
