  1. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 8, 2014 -> 01:32 PM) OK, I decided to answer my own question. I used the point chart from NBC Sports. Bears 14th pick = 1100 points Jets 18th pick = 900 points Jets 80th pick (Rd 3) = 190 points Jets 209th pick (Rd 6 compensatory) = 7.8 points, total of 1097.8 points I guess if you go "by the book" that would be the deal. Compensatory picks cannot be traded. Id do it for #18, a 3rd, and a 7th.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 8, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) Manish Mehta ‏@MMehtaNYDN 28m Jets have interest in trading up from No. 18. Teams to keep an eye on: Titans at No. 11 and Bears at No. 14. #nyj Probably with Virginia Tech CB Kyle Fuller or LSU WR Odell Beckham JR in mind. Need to get in front of Steelers.
  3. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 8, 2014 -> 11:41 AM) I listen plenty since Theo has showed up it has been a love fest from Dan, Theo the man with the plan does no wrong. His positive comments on the Sox have been very few. Theo is really smart and I agree with what he is doing as well. He will get it turned around if the owner doesn't get in his way. Bernstein isn't wrong about that praise. Rick Hahn is another smart, forward thinking GM that Bernstein has applauded many times. Bernstein has stated many times how good of a job Hahn has done and how the team is in good hands. Go on hearing what you'd like to hear though.
  4. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 8, 2014 -> 11:03 AM) Dan has always been a Cub boy and always rips Sox like clockwork. No matter what Sox do it is never going to be good enough compared to the chosen one on the Northside. Never liked Dan B smug ass never will. Umm Dan Bernstein is a White Sox fan.
  5. NFL Draft is tonight....That is all
  6. QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 8, 2014 -> 10:39 AM) Law's Top 100 Draft Prospect list is up. Insider. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/draft/mock/...h-law-big-board That's the link for Keith Law's board but it is insider. 1. Brady Aiken HS LHP 2. Carlos Rodon LHP NC State 3. Tyler Kolek HS RHP 4. Nick Gordon HS SS 5. Bradley Zimmer OF San Francisco 6. Alex Jackson HS C/OF 7. Grant Holmes HS RHP 8. Erick Fedde RHP UNLV 9. Sean Newcomb LHP Hartford 10. Aaron Nola RHP LSU Other notables: 13. Touissant 14. Beede 15. Gatewood 16. Davidson 19. Finnegan 22. Trea Turner 24. Freeland 25. Jeff Hoffman 72. Casey Gillaspie 70. Providence Catholic RHP Jake Godfrey
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 8, 2014 -> 09:18 AM) Isn't Fedde ranked in the mid to late 20's? That would be a HUGE reach. Even Beede would be ahead of him on the majority of lists. I bet Fedde ends up in the top 10. I would much rather have Fedde than Beede. Beede scares me. He's so erratic.
  8. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 8, 2014 -> 08:40 AM) I'd say the Bears take Aaron Donald, but I think he is long gone by the time the Bears draft. So I will go with Kyle Fuller out of Virgina Tech. It also wouldn't shock me if the Bears traded back. Good call here. I'd love to drop back a few spots and pick up an extra 3rd rounder. Fuller is a good name though.
  9. QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 8, 2014 -> 09:07 AM) John Manuel's first mock is up. He still thinks Astros go with Rodon. Miami takes Kolek . Sox go with Aiken. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/201...top-first-mock/ This bit is very much worth noting though. Kind of what I alluded to before. Underslotting a Nola/Freeland/Fedde/Finnegan? Flexibility to grab a signability guy with pick 44 or later. The more I read, the more it sounds like Sox will be choosing between Aiken/Kolek/or someone off the board. I think Rodon will go to Miami if Houston doesn't take him. Getting Brady Aiken at #3 would be a great thing for the White Sox.
  10. QUOTE (Wanne @ May 7, 2014 -> 11:02 PM) I asked this the other day on facebook about just who the eff the Cubs announcers even were. I don't live in Chicago...nor give two s***s about watching them...but GOOD GOD are they awful!!!! They make Bob Brenly exciting. That's the best "America's Team" can actually come up with.....geez us. f***ing horrible.... Disagree. Kasper is really, really good. I would love Kasper and Stone in the booth for the Sox.
  11. QUOTE (southside hitman @ May 7, 2014 -> 02:00 PM) You are right but will the Sox roll the dice knowing there is a possibility we don't sign him? And I bet the Cubs would go over slot to get a deal done with him. Boras knows he wouldn't fall any further than the very next pick past us. Cubs can't really either though. Here are the slot values for 1st rounders and the overall bonus pool amount. 1. Houston: $13,362,200. #1 pick value $7,922,100. 2. Miami: $14, 199,300 #2 pick value $6, 821, 800 3. White Sox: $9,509,700 #3 pick value $5,721,500 4. Cubs $8,352,200 #4 pick value: $4, 621, 200 Houston can pay Rodon close to $8 million. The Marlins actually could overpay as well. We have no evidence of this but if Rodon wants something above $7 million, the White Sox and Cubs can't swing that. If it's $6 million the White Sox probably could. Nobody has really talked about Miami being linked to Rodon but they could definitely afford to go over.
  12. QUOTE (southside hitman @ May 7, 2014 -> 01:54 PM) What he means is now Boras can advertise Rodon as far and away the best college pitcher available. He can let it be known he isn't cutting any deals, if Houston and Miami pass on Rodon and Boras sees we have a choice of Rodon or somebody like Beede or Nola, he will demand more in negotiations because Rodon is clearly a better prospect than what is available at the next pick. Boras can advertise however he wants but the new system takes the leverage away. He will get close the slotted amount from a team or be forced to go back to school. There's no magic money that these teams can just come up with for him.
  13. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 7, 2014 -> 01:50 PM) Now we just pray that Houston or Miami loves Tyler Kolek. Or at least that's what I'm doing. On a personal note, I feel absolutely horrible for Jeff Hoffman. I'll be rooting for him wherever he ends up given that it's not the Cubs/Yankees/Red Sox. Washington at #18 seems like a possible landing spot. However, If I were Toronto, with 2 1st rounders, I'd definitely use one of them on Hoffman. It's hard to know what to feel. If Rodon wants #1 money then I hope the Sox get Kolek at #3. If Rodon will sign for near the slotted amount, I want Rodon at #3. The problem is if Kolek and Aiken go #1 and #2 and Rodon wants #1 money. Then the White Sox have to take a position player or reach for the next pitcher that they like.
  14. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ May 7, 2014 -> 01:47 PM) Slightly concerned that this increases Rodon's leverage at #3. He doesn't have any leverage. He signs at slot or slightly over or he goes back to NC State. That's the deal.
  15. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ May 7, 2014 -> 01:42 PM) Hopefully. Unless the Sox take Hoffman at #3 anyways way underslot.......Okay I am just riling people up now...
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 7, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) That stinks. If he is around in the 2nd round, I'd draft him. Aiken / Kolek / Rodon. No other options. Sounds like it. Cubs will have to go with Alex Jackson most likely at #4 unless they take SS Nick Gordon in front of Minnesota
  17. QUOTE (southside hitman @ May 7, 2014 -> 01:24 PM) keithlaw ‏@keithlaw 2m RHP Jeff Hoffman of @ECUBaseball will have Tommy John surgery next week. Had been a probable top 4 pick in the draft before injury. Wow. Ok well cross him off the list. Yikes. Well what does that mean for him though? Will he go back to school? Seems to me that he'd want to go pro anyway. Could the Sox take him in the 2nd round? Later than that?
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 7, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) He has the body for a really good pro. Wish we still had Marinelli. I'd actually rather have Paul Pasqualoni as the DL coach than Marinelli.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2014 -> 11:31 AM) Ha, that is awesome. He is a plagiarist. It also could be possible that after talking about it yesterday and seeing the stats on television last night that he decided to write his column about it. Not really that big of a deal.
  20. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 7, 2014 -> 11:12 AM) This appeared in exact duplicate in last night's WGN-Cubs broadcast and in today's Bernstein article. I don't live in Chicago, and even when I did I never listened to the guy, but does he have original ideas or does he just steal them all from others? I think Bernstein puts together some stat line thing for the Cubs broadcast occasionally. He has Kasper on every week so it may be something like that.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 7, 2014 -> 10:58 AM) Gillaspie is the starter, he'll play against almost everyone. Garcia is the UTIL IF, and then Keppinger will be back soon too. Who will play 3B against lefties really isn't a concern to speak of right now. It should be. Gillaspie's career .ops against LHP is somewhere in the .500's. If the Sox aren't going to let Dunn face most LHP then Gillaspie sure as hell shouldn't be either.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 7, 2014 -> 10:46 AM) Semien could use some time in AAA, and he needs to play every day, so he's the logical choice. Who will play 3B vs LHP for the time being?
  23. This is pretty good. Some will hate it because they hate Bernstein. Some will hate it because they hate Dunn. As a Dunn fan, here it is. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/05/07/ber...bscuring-truth/
  24. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 7, 2014 -> 10:01 AM) My guess would be that: Gillaspie replaces Sierra Eaton replaces Danks Keppinger replaces Semien Sierra has no options though. He'd have to go through waivers.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2014 -> 10:19 AM) Seth Lakso ‏@SethLakso 13m Conor Gillaspie doesn’t appear to be with Knights for today’s 11:05 start. Fairly safe to assume he’s on his way to Chicago. Looked ready. Will it be Semien going down today or Danks? Should be interesting.
