  1. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 11:08 PM) I think so. Thing is IF the Marlins made Stanton available there are other teams with plenty more to offer than the Sox have. I'd love to see what kind of numbers Stanton would put up at the Cell but its just not realistic. The Sox wouldn't be able to sign Stanton once he became free either.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 09:14 AM) I could see him + Saunders becoming a more reasonable return but there's a huge problem - we have literally no where to play him right now. The IF at AAA has 4 guys (counting Davidson) for 3 spots, the IF in the big leagues has Beckham at 2b with basically the same issue - needing playing time to see if he can live up to being anything useful. Are the Mariners playing Ackley in LF currently?
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 09:05 AM) If that's the case...then any deal actually going down would wind up involving much bigger names than Michael Saunders. Seattle has some they could part with, but if they're not willing to do so then there's nothing to discuss unless the White Sox are trying to dump him. True. Would anyone still be interested in taking a chance on Dustin Ackley if that could be a piece of the deal? He is another guy that was supposed to be really good, got rushed, and just hasn't been.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 08:35 AM) I honestly don't think either is a poor justification even if he hit well in the Spring. It's still Spring Training. These numbers mean absolutely nothing. If you can save money and keep a player for a longer period of time by keeping them in the minors for an extra 30-60 days, I'd do it every time. Yeah I wanted Davidson to make the team for selfish reasons. The best course of action is for him to go down. Charlotte infield with Davidson, Sanchez, and Semien is quite exciting actually. Can Leury Garcia play 3B? It doesn't seem like Keppinger will be able to play 3B with his shoulder and Gillaspie should never face LHP.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 08:50 AM) I'm not sure we can say they're "Considering" it, but there appears to have been fairly respectable, non-bruce-levine names that have liked the White Sox and Mariners and put the 2 names Viciedo and Saunders together. The Sox know Viciedo better than anyone at this point and given his lack of development, I consider it plausible that they might reach a point of personal frustration with him in a way other teams wouldn't. When I start seeing proposals involving him that otherwise make no sense, as you say...that starts making me think that a personal issue could very well be the problem. This is one I could easily be mistaken on, because the only way to really gauge how a team feels about a guy personally is to read between the lines; looking at performance, playing time, trade rumors, competition on the roster, etc. If nothing happens and he goes out and gets 600 PA's this year, then they're still showing confidence in him. If they make a move like this, or they give him 350 PA's and platoon him with a lefty OF who is older and getting close to FA...those kind of things argue to me that they have a real problem with the guy. Also, IIRC Viciedo was not present at that hitting seminar that went on in Arizona a month before spring training. Steverson wasn't even talking about Viciedo. I kept hearing Abrea, Garcia, Eaton, Davidson, Semien, Hawkins, blah, blah. Rarely heard much about Viciedo and I thought it was weird at the time. I don't think Sox are necessarily looking to dump him though. I think Seattle just really likes him.
  6. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 02:20 AM) If I trade Viciedo to Seattle, I would want Luiz Gohara back and another low level pitching prospect. I would want that competitive balance B pick. I would consider moving Viciedo for Saunders, a good young pitching prospect (Gohara), and their competitive balance pick. Viciedo could go there and end up thriving but maybe the Sox don't see him as part of their future. Interesting.
  7. The Boras-White Sox thing is overblown especially with Hahn in charge right? Could that have something to do with it? Might the Sox be afraid of the contract that Viciedo and Boras will ask for? How many years of control is Viciedo now, 2 more?
  8. Pretty good article on Jose Abreu from Passan today. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/why-the-riche..._medium=twitter
  9. The Twins have some interest in White Sox outfielder Alejandro De Aza, who is getting interest even though he's not everything a club would want in a center fielder, leadoff type. Last season, De Aza slashed .264/.323/.405 with 17 homers in 675 plate appearances. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/03/cafa..._medium=twitter
  10. Levine, Bernie Pleskoff, and Jon Heyman have all mentioned Mariners interest in Viciedo now. Levine said this morning that Zduriencik was in camp watching Viciedo. What would the Sox even be interested in from them?
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2014 -> 09:12 AM) Also it looks like the Jays have 2 first round picks this year thanks to not signing a guy last year. I have no idea how that fits into bonus considerations but it seems important to note. They do have 2 first rounders. It shouldn't matter though. I was against teams giving up a draft pick for a 4 year deal for Santana. Getting him for 1 year is even worse. Toronto isn't going anywhere. When your team relies on Jose Reyes to stay healthy, you are generally in a bad spot. My guess is that they will spinning Santana at the deadline after they are out of contention.
  12. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Mar 8, 2014 -> 08:04 AM) Beede real strong again last night vs. Winthrop: 7IP 6H 1ER 0BB 9K. Having a nice year. Our Guy? Maybe so. Aaron Nola has been awesome early on as well. Nola wasn't really seen as a top 5 type guy prior to the year though. Dan Kirby ‏@DanMKirby 11m LSU has outscored their opponents 40-0 when Aaron Nola has started this year. In 4 starts: 27 IP, 0 ER, 13 H, 36 K/2 BB. #MLBDraft
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 8, 2014 -> 08:37 AM) Jon Heyman saying Santana in talks with Blue Jays, Orioles, and 1 NL team. It sounds like it will be Toronto. Why would a team like that give up a draft pick for 1 year of Santana? It's bad business for a team that isn't making the playoffs.
  14. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 5, 2014 -> 10:57 AM) What time is the 30/30? Is the 30 for 30 available online or on demand?
  15. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Mar 5, 2014 -> 06:08 PM) Western Illinois has a draft prospect with some helium. Not an option at number 3 obviously, but in-state guys always interest me. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/und...-tyler-willman/ Godfrey from Providence Catholic High School is a big RH starter that might end up being a supplemental round type guy. Obviously, the Sox have been burned by a Providence kid before but if the topic is local guys, he's one of them.
  16. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 07:11 AM) Heyman has a lot more credibility than Levine. I think if Heyman is stating it, it's probably legit and he heard it from someone more reliable than Levine. FWIW, Heyman was at Sox camp yesterday
  17. I was told by bucket to stop listening to Bruce Levine, but apparently he told Mac and Spiegs that the Mariners are interested in Dayan Viciedo. What would it take guys?
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 5, 2014 -> 03:00 AM) That's true.... But Moustakas hasn't had 4 1/2 years to create a track record for himself at the major league level. 2nd, his minor league numbers would tell you that Moustakas is much more likely to end up a 25-30 homer type of player than Beckham over the next 2-3 seasons. The stories of Alvarez or Alex Gordon would tell you that they're going to be patient with him...maybe not 3 more years of flailing/struggling patient, but at least 1 1/2 more seasons if not 2. I understand you could probably do the same thing for Erik Hosmer (comparison with Beckham), but that doesn't mean I would take Beckham over either one of those two guys....or two Beckhams for one Hosmer/Moustakas. Beckham doesn't have 1.5 or 2 more seasons. Semien, Sanchez, and Micah Johnson are all pushing him for a spot. I supported Gordon for a long time but the Sox have a ton of middle infield depth in their system right now. I would say that Gordon's days in a Sox uniform are numbered.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 3, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) I couldn't tell if TD washed its hands of the intrigue over Marty's daughter or kept that story line warm on the backburner. Seems like there wouldn't be enough time to cover that in the last hour. I think the story of his daughter will be resolved in the final episode.
  20. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 2, 2014 -> 02:36 PM) I saw a few 91s/92s but surely he's better than that. Right? Well it is the first start of the spring…..He used to throw like 95 consistently. We shall see.
  21. QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 2, 2014 -> 06:54 AM) Lindstrom hasn't been a closer for a few years, so why try again with him? He closed with Houston one year, then lost the job. Strictly a set up guy now. I think he and Boggs should be fighting for the same roster spot, but they will both probably go North in April. I don't get the Boggs' signing. How do you not get the Boggs signing? He has great stuff and Don Cooper is the Sox pitching coach. Do you understand the Scott Downs signing? How about the Ronald Belisario one? There is no reason not to do what the Sox are doing with these relievers. Hopefully Lindstrom, Downs, and Boggs are all good and they can be traded by July. I'm pretty sure that's the plan.
  22. I think they will win between 72-77 games. I want to see big years out of the young new core. The White Sox have a lot of trade pieces though and that actually really excites me. Alexei Ramirez, Gordon Beckham, Adam Dunn, John Danks, Mitchell Boggs, Ronald Belisario, Matt Lindstrom, Nate Jones, and Scott Downs are all guys that could be moved to further enhance the system throughout the year. Pretty exciting possibility actually.
  23. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 10:36 PM) Stop listening to Bruce Levine. ...about anything. Yeah I generally agree about Levine. However, I was wondering about the context of the discussion. I missed the whole first part. Are they interested? Should they be interested? What was the context of the information.
  24. I was listening to Bruce Levine on with Hub Arkush tonight briefly and Bruce was talking about the Sox having some interest in Mike Leake from Cincinnati. Did anyone hear this or know anything about it?
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) I can't seem to find the catch-all thread, but Adam Dunn was invited to the Oscars for investing in the production company that made Dallas Buyers Club, and he has a small non-speaking role. Merkin confirmed on Twitter that the team has allowed him to attend. http://nypost.com/2014/02/25/why-adam-dunn...-to-the-oscars/ Where is The Ultimate Champion? He needs to get in this thread and get angry that Dunn has the nerve to attend the Oscars instead of getting better at baseball.
