  1. Sounds like Houston will listen on Jason Castro....Might be expensive though http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-he...ing-star-castro
  2. QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 11, 2013 -> 05:27 PM) Maybe not over 1 year but more security No team is going to give up a high pick to sign him to a short term deal though. It doesn't make any sense. Some of these guys will end up like Kyle Lohse and Michael Bourn waiting forever to get a deal.
  3. QUOTE (dayan024 @ Nov 11, 2013 -> 05:19 PM) Phil Rogers ‏@philgrogers 2m With @cgrand14 rejecting the Yankees' qualifying offer, he's definitely on White Sox radar. Strong support within baseball ops I just replied and told Phil he's crazy. Rogers has had a hard-on for Grandy for years. My buddy was Curtis Granderson's roommate at UIC. He would be shocked if it happened. Not willing to give up draft selection. Bucket or Rock, are you hearing anything on this?
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 11, 2013 -> 10:15 AM) I think Sox will bring AJ back. I do not. One person on this board would be ecstatic though.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 11, 2013 -> 10:10 AM) Pretty much. November is a good month to just ignore the rumors because it's all posturing and propaganda before the Winter Meetings. 4 weeks until then. This is usually the case, but Sox have made deals at GM meetings before. I believe that Freddy for Floyd/Gio deal was a GM meetings deal.
  6. Does anyone think there is real interest between the White Sox and Salty now that the beat writers are covering it? Is it just speculation or do the beat guys know it's something that may go down? Dan Hayes ‏@DanHayesCSN 31m Jarrod Saltalamacchia and the #WhiteSox appear to be a good fit for each other. Here are a few reasons why. http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/saltal...e-fit-white-sox.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 9, 2013 -> 02:22 PM) Why would you be upset? Everybody admits he can still hit lefties. It's not like Dunn is some magical bat. Let Paulie and Dunn DH if you can't trade Dunn and let Abreu DH once in a while and let Paulie play first. I'd cut Dunn's at bats in half until his contract runs out. Adam Dunn hit five homers in August and four in September. It's not like he's still raking. Do I need to put this in all caps for you? Konerko is done. There is no scenario in which it is a good idea to have Abreu, Dunn, and Konerko on the roster. Dunn/Konerko cannot be one of the spots on a 4 man bench. It's just stupid. Even if they traded Dunn, keeping Konerko would be dumb because they are way too RH then. Let it go, man. I enjoyed watching Paulie's career too but those days are over.
  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 9, 2013 -> 07:41 AM) I think a Konerko decision was made the day we signed Abreu. Dunn is the better player right now (plus left-handed) and there is simply no room for Paulie on a 4 man bench. And you know Robin would give Konerko a decent amount of playing time at the expense of Abreu. In all honestly, bringing him back doesn't make any sense and I'm sure Hahn agrees. This is spot on. I will actually be pretty upset if the Sox bring Konerko back. It's pointless. Sometimes it's just over and that time is now.
  9. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 08:41 AM) ESPN scouting report on Turner "Turner has elite speed and should be able to stick at shortstop, but there might not be much offensive upside. " For the record, this is Keith Law's assertion. He did the write up for ESPN.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 4, 2013 -> 02:45 PM) How are they planning to spend the money on international free agents if there's a clear cap? Solely on Cuban players (Abreu)? Another Cuban? Japanese or Korean? It's a bit misleading to act like we're suddenly going to be targeting the likes of Tanaka...I guess it just means we're actually going to start spending the maximum on Dominican players for a change (and we've already done that this year). The Sox will spend close to $5 million on International Bonus Pool of players and around $10 million on the draft. That's about $15 million of the budget right there. Say the Sox are budgeted at a payroll of about $105 million for opening day. I take this to mean that they would then only spend close to $90 million on the actual roster. That is fine with me and something I and many others have advocated for a long long time on this board. Being bad gives you the opportunity to spend more but it's still the team's money and they will still operate on a budget.
  11. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 3, 2013 -> 01:39 PM) BA Jeff Hoffman Article from ECU scout day. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/eas...y-jeff-hoffman/ Certainly not out of the question he's available at 3. Are the Marlins still against drafting HS players in Rd.1? I kind of assumed that they were thinking that Rodon and Hoffman would go 1-2 leaving us with the choice of HS Hitters or everyone else. It's obviously way premature, but something I wondered about.
  12. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 4, 2013 -> 01:41 PM) Granderson received a qualifying offer. Also: Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 15m Keep in mind that although White Sox top pick at No. 3 is protected, they almost certainly aren't giving up Draft picks. That item, along .. Reply Retweet Favorite More Expand Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 15m ... with international spending, are two of the major items in the '14 budget per Rick Hahn. Reply Retweet Favorite More Expand Yep. The QO takes the Sox out of the Granderson market. It actually hurts the player. Most teams won't be giving up a draft selection for Grandy.
  13. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 2, 2013 -> 12:20 PM) And I love when hometown fans overvalue every player on their favorite team. Its only been a few days since I joined this site, but already I've learned..... - Viciedo and Beckham are good players who are just slumping. They'll be better next year. - Alexei Ramirez is a very good player who should only be traded for a top prospect. He's too valuable for anything less. - Hector Santiago is legit frontline starter and possibly even a #2. - Chris Beck is a top prospect with a bright future. Then you are ignoring the right posts. There is a lot of crap spewed on this site just like any similar team site on the internet. But everyone here wants the same thing. I am pretty sure we all want to see sustained success from our favorite baseball team. Most people are down on Beckham and Viciedo. I wouldn't trade Viciedo for a bag of balls but I don't think he's been used properly either. Beckham OTOH, I think gets dealt this offseason. Alexei Ramirez is a really good defensive SS who is overpaid for what he brings offensively. Would not be shocked to see him gone as well. Santiago is not a frontline starter. He has fantastic stuff and needs to not walk as many people. But he should not be traded unless the Sox get value in return. Even if he is a #4 starter, young, cost-controlled LHP is very valuable. And finally, Chris Beck isn't a top 100 guy but at one time he was a potential 1st round draft choice. He had a good season last year and I expect him to build on that.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 2, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) Therein lies the problem. None of those toolsy outfielders (Mitchell, Thompson, Jacobs, Walker, Hawkins) are anywhere close to having the impact of an Ellsbury. I know that. I agree that the player I am referring to is not in the organization yet. It's easier said than done. I still would not want to pay for past performance though. If Ellsbury loses his speed or goes on the DL the whole plan is shot. It's like investing in Jose Reyes. Investing that much money in a player whose game depends so much on speed is a problem for me.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 2, 2013 -> 02:07 PM) Are you sure on that money, Caufield? Grandy is going to get a huge deal? How many teams out there are still spending that kind of money for good but not greatness? AJ making more than $4 mill? Good luck to the teams that want to pay that, I guess. All I know is we need better players than Viciedo and DeAza; Kepp and Gillaspie and Gordo. Otherwise last place beckons and we waste decent pitching. Yes he is right on with that money. Greg, Hunter Pence just got $90 million. Hunter Effing Pence. That is why you don't rebuild a core through free agency. This may take awhile. People not understanding that is mind boggling to me.
  16. This thread is funny. 1. The Sox will not be signing Ellsbury or someone else that costs the team a 2nd round draft pick. 2. A.J. Pierzynski is not coming back. 3. I work with Curtis Granderson's college roommate and he says that White Sox would be interested in a short term deal (2 years). Yankees will most likely give him a QO taking him off the table for the Sox as well. Moves like that just don't make business sense for the White Sox right now. The Sox need to draft and develop the next Jacoby Ellsbury rather than paying the actual Jacoby Ellsbury money for past performance. It's flawed logic. Let someone else do that.
  17. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 02:27 PM) I agree with you but i don't know if I could see Hahn doing that without getting some sort of pitching back I wouldnt even need Lawrie is both Sanchez and Stroman were really in play.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 09:20 AM) Jamie Alexander would be a good Wonder Woman too, but she is currently playing Sif in the Thor movies. Dont know if Marvel would let her walk, not sure if she has a long picture deal with Marvel. Adrienne Palicki would be good I think. She was Tyra in Friday Night Lights and was supposed to play Wonder Woman in the TV show that got cancelled before airing.
  19. QUOTE (staxx @ Oct 20, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) At this point id be shocked if we don't end up with either Hoffman/Gatewood/Turner I would be really excited about Alex Jackson as well.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 02:49 PM) To trade Sale the Sox would need a young major league star. NO combo of prospects is going to even come close. I think Bryant will soon be a young major league star. Not that I'd make the deal but he's going to be a stud.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 10:39 AM) If you really think a month or a year with a new hitting coach is going to make Ramirez, Viciedo, or Garcia more selective, I have some Sears stock to sell you. They have played under multiple hitting coaches their entire lives but still have the same approach. I don't think there is much hope for Alexei to improve on that. As you do get a little older, sometimes you do get a little wiser, so maybe Viciedo and Garcia can become more selective, but odds are against it being anything drastic. I have no problems with this guy. I would just say if you really think the hitting coach is going to increase everyone's OBP 30 or 40 points, you probably need rehab. I generally agree that the preaching of patience at the major league with veterans will most likely not change them. However, this hire was made to have an impact on the minor league system to have a common philosophy taught and preached throughout the organization. That's why this is a big move in my opinion.
  22. I will be pretty upset if PK is on the roster. It's over. Move on. So many people want to just discard Dunn too. Who would be the LH bats on the team? That's crazy unless you can replace the production. He hits a ton of homers and that's pretty important to succeed in the ballpark that the Sox play in.
  23. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) Olney just tweeted Astros are skeptical about their chances of signing Abreu. Made a strong offer but all but certain they fell short. White Sox? I like the sound of that Yeah here is the tweet. Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN 1m Source say Astros are skeptical about their chances of signing Jose Abreu. Made a strong offer but all but certain they fell short. W. Sox?
  24. These are the times that I wish KW was in charge of a different organization. He loves the Arizona Fall League and would trade the Sox something pretty good after salivating over Mitchell's play out there.
