QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Feb 1, 2014 -> 08:41 AM) Agree I don't want him Did you see the year that he had last year? He was fantastic. He had a 4.8 WAR. He had a .501 slugging percentage and a wRC+ of 130. He also hit 22 Homers and played great defense. Now to be objective he did have a .356 BABIP. He quietly was really good though.

No more days until Pitchers and Catchers reports

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 08:13 PM) The meat heads that countdown the days to mini camp are the worst. f***ing ugh. Haha okay. The NFL Draft is my favorite event of the year. I was just hoping you weren't going to say that haha. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 05:04 PM) Can't wait for baseball to start but this is the second most overrated day in sports. I am curious as to your opinion of the most overrated day in sports? -
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 01:56 PM) It doesn't matter. The Sox should sign Jimenez or that other guy to a 4-year/$50 million contract instead. And give up a draft pick. I forgot. Sounds like a great idea. That needed to be in green by the way.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 01:52 PM) He's already got that. The money has already been spent. Re: the rest of this abortion: The arguments for keeping Dunn here are hilarious. Supposedly he's not taking ABs away from anyone that matters, right. Are his ABs coming from the sky? Are the Sox getting a special exemption this year that offers them 33 or so outs per game so that Dunn's PA won't count against the team? Do they get to keep a 26th man this year while the other 29 teams get 25? This is absurd. WTF do you people think is a realistic return for this guy? Do you really think anything of value is coming back? How much $$$ you think another team is going to be willing to eat? And why would you expect that return to be more valuable than getting a better look at players we already have on the roster? Trying to recoup a small part of a terrible investment at the cost of PAs for players who are under team control for several seasons is absurd, the thinking is completely irrational and counterproductive to the entire process. The money has already been spent, we already surrendered the draft pick. Put the drink down, tell the waitress to go away, stand up and walk away from the table you irrational gambling maniac lush. Goodness gracious. Dunn is not a part of the team's future. Regardless of results, his PA are much better spent on other players who have a chance at being long-term players, whether they are as starters or bench guys. The "striking fear into the opposition" part is f***ing hilarious also. We're really going to be striking fear into pitchers looking to rack up stats against our s***ty bottom feeding team. And the idea that just because Dunn may put up better numbers than say Jake Elmore, it is better to play Dunn is equally hilarious. I'm laughing with anger right now, man this is great, what a riot. This team is going to be *losing for a very specific purpose* and the idea here is to find out as much as possible about as many players as possible so that the losing doesn't have to continue much further than it already has to. Playing Dunn this year is THE SAME EXACT THING as signing a 1-year DH for the league minimum and giving him the PA necessary to rebuild his value. Now with the right player in the situation this *could* be an intelligent move, however signing a very limited hacker like Dunn, who 25 teams probably wouldn't even have a place for even under the best of realistic circumstances as it is, and then expecting that player to some how climb out of what appears to be a career-ending statistical decline - that's not very smart. Again, there IS NO DIFFERENCE. The $15M is gone. We're not going to be getting back a good enough player or enough of that salary to make it worth the while to give Dunn PA over just about any other member of this roster. You guys keep making the same flawed arguments over and over: we're not going to be winning. The numbers don't matter. The PA however do. Now I expect to be quoted and have something said like "well you're just wrong" or "no team is going to eat that much money" completely ignoring all of the logic behind making the necessary moves to dump this guy from the roster. If the Sox can recover anything at all in salary they should do it. They can't get out of their payroll obligations and every other f***ing team knows this and because of this the Sox have exactly zero leverage in any trade negotiation. The PA and development time of other players are more important than Dunn and anything Dunn can realistically bring back. Even if you get back the ghost of Brandon Hynick and $1.5M savings you're still getting a deal because you just opened up a s***load of PA & opened up another roster spot. Have mercy. Thank God for Marty, he makes a lot of sense sometimes but yall just wanna hate irrespectively. I can hate too when it comes to his views on Ozzie, but his thoughts on Dunn are accurate. The fans don't want this guy on the team and yes, that does mean something, since they buy the f***ing tickets. Christ in heaven. Jesus. White Sox fans don't buy tickets. That won't change with Dunn gone.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 12:37 PM) Just like Paulino being in the rotation is good for the team? Why don't you want Paulino in the rotation? That was a really good signing. Have you ever seen the guy pitch before?
-
Another Dunn thread huh? I think I'm one of the only guys on the board that still enjoys him. He was one of my favorite players in baseball prior to the trade and I still like watching him hit bombs even though he's been a big disappointment. Didn't Dunn have the highest .OPS on the team still last year? I just don't understand the hate honestly. I understand not wanting him on the team anymore. But hating the guy? The only thing he did wrong was not live up to the contract he signed. It's really getting rather old around here.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 09:54 AM) Wow, he's high on Micah and Mitchell. I think he's probably not fully aware of some of the risks with Micah Johnson. Mitchell is an interesting prospect but I can't see him as top 10. He likes him as a starter though. If he's a reliever he probably isn't top 10. Law has said since draft day that he has the pitch mix to start.
-
Keith Law also today released his top 10's for the AL. I will list them below and put a brief synopsis. I can email the insider stuff to people if you send me a PM. 1. Erik Johnson 2. Matt Davidson 3. Tim Anderson 4. Courtney Hawkins 5. Micah Johnson 6. Marcus Semien 7. Trayce Thompson 8. Chris Beck 9. Andrew Mitchell 10. Jacob May 11. Scott Snodgress Law said that even though the system is still ranked 27th, it is in the best shape it's been in since he started compiling his rankings. .... Law is still high on Courtney Hawkins. Says he was pushed to aggressively last season but still has the 3 tools (power, arm, speed) that made him a top 100 guy last season. .....Micah Johnson opened eyes in the Arizona Fall League but Law states that he may end up in CF. .....Law loves Andrew Mitchell. I believe he had him as his #35 draft prospect and the Sox took him in round 4. He says that TCU misused him as a reliever and that he has the 3 pitch mix to start. .....Law is not a fan of Tyler Danish. He wasn't on draft day either though and mentions how he hates the delivery. He also said that he still hates Sale's arm action but says that the Sox have obviously made that work. .....Semien could supplant Beckham at 2B if given the opportunity and could be an ideal utility infielder. Keith also lists Jared Mitchell under The Fallen category and Jacob May under his Sleepers.

A complete roundup of idiotic David Price trade proposals
Y2Jimmy0 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 07:04 PM) But that was mostly based on the overrating or overvaluing of Alexei Ramirez and/or Rios, right? Yes and many of us believed that the White Sox would pay a big chunk of $$ to receive better prospects in return. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 04:16 PM) True, and I wasn't even really using hindsight as Anderson had a fine season. It's not like I said I wish the Sox drafted Trout over Mitchell. Sure Wacha looks to have a better career than Hawkins but at the time I wanted Courtney Hawkins and I was happy when the team drafted him. Absolutely agree with this. I wanted Hawkins at the time and that's who the Sox took. I loved it. Wacha represented the safe, college back-end type that was taken in the past and many would have been upset with that pick.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 10:22 AM) Michael Bay would actually be an upgrade at director in this case as Jonathan Liebesman has basically only directed horrendous movies. There is no way that movie isn't really bad. It's gonna be awful. Michael Bay is terrible. Shredder is a white guy for crying out loud.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 10:58 AM) http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-...ourtney-hawkins I think I read that Hawkins and Tim Anderson will both be at High A Winston Salem.

Has anyone seen Dallas Buyers Club? It was phenomenal. McConaughey was great and it's no wonder that Jared Leto is going to win Best Supporting Actor. Just really good stuff.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 26, 2014 -> 11:29 PM) I'd love to see what Coop can do with Tommy Hanson. Agree. Hanson has been really bad. Worth a flyer though.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 26, 2014 -> 10:22 PM) I don't understand why Hahn is stopping right now. I'm thinking in the offseason, Keppinger and Gillaspie sound like very good players and Flowers/Phegs doesn't sound so bad and our pitching staff seems just fine. But that's wishful thinking, fool's gold. To all of you "rebuilding people" please please answer this. My assertion is if we added a real catcher, another starter and preferably a real second baseman we "could" win the division. It's doable to add all three. So tell me ... do you agree with my assertion we are THAT CLOSE to contending now? If the answer as I expect, is yes, then why not go for it? I'd hate to be out of the race in May when we are this close NOW. I honestly don't think that the Sox are that close. They are depending on so many things. I am very excited for the season because I want to see the young players but I don't correlate that excitement with thinking they will be in the division race. I think the absolute best case scenario is something like 79-83. But to me, the record doesn't really matter. I want to see which young players look like long-term answers. I want to see the Sox continue to add to the system with draft, international signings, and the trading of veterans. That's a successful season to me next year. I know a lot of people differ and that's fine. I just wouldn't advocate getting your hopes up.

Lets make this clear: THE WHITE SOX ARE NOT SIGNING ERVIN SANTANA. IT IS A STUPID IDEA. RICK HAHN IS NOT DOING ANYTHING THAT WILL COST THE TEAM A DRAFT PICK BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE STUPID AND RICK HAHN IS NOT STUPID. WHY ARE PEOPLE STILL GOING BACK AND FORTH ON THIS? WE ARE FEEDING A TROLL THAT IS LOOKING TO GET FED. THIS HAS TO STOP. MARTY I ONLY HAVE 1 QUESTION: WERE YOU AT SOXFEST ASKING HAHN WHY AJ PIERZYNSKI ISNT ON THE TEAM ANYMORE? YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS TOPIC ALIGN PERFECTLY WITH THEIRS.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 26, 2014 -> 01:55 PM) I think the comment to Robin was just plain dumb and an assinine thing to say and I'm not a fan of him as a manager. I don't blame the fans for their frustration with Dunn, im frustrated too after three seasons of his performance. Truthfully I don't think what was said about Dunn was terrible at all, that fan could have said much much worse. The fan just expressed his frustration that Dunn was still in a Sox uni, no big deal to me. I wouldn't have done it but I wouldn't have attended that seminar because I'm frustrated with Dunn's performance. After 99 losses, high ticket prices, high concessions etc and given this is a free country the fans are well within their right to voice their frustraton. Tickets can be had very cheap. They could lower prices and Sox fans still wouldn't go.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 26, 2014 -> 12:20 PM) Absolutely, the Sox are to blame here. The only reason I can think of for inviting Dunn is that Courtney Hawkins was next on the Soxfest depth chart. What's funny is that Dunn isn't even the worst player on the Sox but people hate him. People just hate strikeouts. Anyone that would have booed 19 year old Courtney Hawkins should have been blown up immediately though.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 26, 2014 -> 11:11 AM) To me, the main thing Wong has (other than LH bat, which is important) is not so much talent as it is track record. Semien's never been bad, but he's only spent a few months on the legitimate prospect radar. Too much uncertainty. And he's not on STL, NY, or Boston.
-
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jan 26, 2014 -> 12:22 PM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/01/al-c...ins-tigers.html Apparently Ervin Santana's price may have dropped all the way to 3/40M. Everybody still horribly against a 3 year deal? It doesn't matter what we think. Rick Hahn has made it clear that the Sox won't be doing anything that costs them a draft pick. Guys like Santana get screwed by the new system.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 05:16 PM) Speaking of Jonah Hill and the Wolf of Wall Street, not only did Jonah demand that he have to audition for a part in the movie, but he accepted "the lowest possible pay" he could for the movie. He made something like $60K for this movie! http://www.avclub.com/article/jonah-hill-w...oney-pos-107191 Hill said if he is making great movies, he is fine just being able to pay rent and have a family. I read some things that referenced the fact that Scorsese is Hill's all time favorite Director. He said that Goodfellas is his all time favorite film and he'd basically do anything for Marty.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 25, 2014 -> 07:24 PM) LOL. Yeah, have to agree there. I have seen two writers say they prefer Semien to Wong. I believe they were Keith Law and Kiley McDaniel but don't quote me on that. There's probably a White Sox-Cardinals bias there too. Cardinals turn marginal prospects (Craig and Carpenter) into great players and the White Sox turn marginal hitting prospects into absolutely nothing. Here was Jonathan Mayo's response to me: Jonathan Mayo @JonathanMayoB3 10h @JamesFox917 @jimcallis His tools don't measure up. I like him, but Wongs tools much better
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 25, 2014 -> 05:57 PM) That's bulls***. You only hurt your own credibility when you make comments like that. I've been going to SoxFest every year minus 2-3 since 1999. Every year I meet great people. Just because a couple of meatheads boo Dunn and Ventura that doesn't make the attendees idiots. Not everyone spends their free time at night/at work/at school/at home/ in waiting rooms reading about the Sox like some of us. That doesn't give you the right to act like you're some elite fan. I tried to conjure up a reply but I just don't have the energy. I'll just sit here and continue to be elite with no credibility.

QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jan 25, 2014 -> 03:50 PM) This is hilarious, lets all act shocked when common fans are angry at a player who's been vastly overpaid for the past three years and call him out at the one time of the year the fans get to interact in some ways with the players. It would be shocking if they didn't ridicule him in the situation. It's not my cup of tea to do that, but I don't feel bad in the least. Especially not since at the end of the day, he's still making millions to play a game. I actually agree with Marty in a sense that I'm surprised Dunn hasn't been dumped yet just to appease the casual fan. I do however think Dunn and Konerko can make a solid platoon. But I still don't see how it's going to be flexible to have Konerko, Dunn, De Aza, Viciedo, and Keppinger all on this roster how it currently is. Exactly. And if you are at a fan convention, you are most likely an idiot. Just the way it goes. Players go to those things to hook up with broads.
