This was just meant to be the opening day lineup. I think Robert reaches at some point in 2020, but probably not right away. Hopefully he pulls an Acuna this year and proves me wrong! -

If you sign Machado, I think you still go after Harper. Look at this projected 2020 lineup: Moncada, 2B Machado, 3B Harper, RF Jimenez, LF Abreu, DH (via tender) Alonso / cheap vet, 1B Anderson, SS Collins, C Basabe, CF All of a sudden, you have Madrigal and excess OFs (Robert would be off limits) that can be used in a package to acquire a stud TOR starter to head a young, talented staff. I’d rather spend big on young positional guys and trade for an impact starter than vice versa. -
That says NBC Sports will be broadcasting all home games for the Sox, which that alone means an increase in revenue by not broadcasting on WGN.

If you’re Rick Hahn and Manny’s agent comes to you and says I need another $25M or he may take less and sign with the Yankees, what would you do? Let’s be real here, Rick knows they’re offering more than New York. It’s a game of chicken on whether or not you believe the proposed $25M will actually make a difference. You may think it’s stupid, but I’d probaly throw an extra $25M after seeing him follow the YES Network because it does just enough to make me think he’s willing to take less money to purse his dream of playing in New York. -
That’s also true, I think Harper’s market is pretty much just the Phillies and us (unless he prepared to take huge discount), so he has no choice but to meet with the Phillies. I just find the timing of this leak a little odd and maybe that suggests there is more to it.

It does mean something for Harper because he can get a taste of those benefits via an inflated contract. Teams with the most potential synergies should be able to offer much more money. It’s win win for sides to go where value creation is maximized.
-
I don’t know man, their ratings are already through the roof and Harper can’t really change that IMO.

What’s interesting is that article mentions they have not met with Bryce yet and only Boras. Obviously this is just my speculation, but it makes me wonder if they don’t like their chances for Machado.

I think that’s definitely a legit possibility. And let’s be honest, Harper just did the same think by liking a Dodgers post. Social media is a powerful tool and agents are going to use tool in their disposal to maximize value for their client and ultimately themselves. -

Lol...I actually was going to mention the gambling losses, but wasn’t sure if that was as frequent as pictures of random people’s beef sandwiches. -

Lol...I take it you don’t like “victory beefs” because those make up half of his tweeter feed. -

To counter that though, they may be better off holding onto Andujar one more year and then signing Arenado or Rendon to play 3B. I don’t see why’d be in any rush to trade Andujar unless they feel the bat will regress. IMO, his value increases substantially with a repeat performance offensively along with some moderate defensive gains. -

Exactly, plus we’d have $100M+ in payroll to play with and a strong farm system to trade from. Unless Moncada, Lopez, Rodon, Anderson & Eloy all suck next year, Hahn will have his eye on contending in 2020. -

That Sherman assessment of the Yankees & Machado situation makes a ton of sense IMO and aligns with what we’ve been hearing. The Yankees likely plan on making a “here it is” offer and see if Machado chases the money or the dream of playing in New York. If true, I think we should all feel a little bit more optimistic because guys typically take the money. Obviously no guarantees, but we should have a fighting chance if the money is there. -

Lol...this is absurd. The team better be competing well before 2022 or Hahn has completely failed at his job. Moncada & Lopez are free agents after the 2023 season & Kopech after 2024, so realistically the window will likely be 2020 to 2024. -

You’re probably right about this. Plus I didn’t realize he has two years remaining on his original Blue Jays deal, so it’s unlikely he’s worried about his next contract. Regardless, I don’t think this has much impact on Machado, although it may reiterate they only want Manny on their terms. -

If you’re Tulo you probably care about playing time first & foremost, because you’re trying to work towards another contract. -

I don’t think adding Machado has any impact on their ability to extract full value for Andujar given he’s young, cheap, & desirable. Plus they could always use him at 1B until someone was ready to pony up. -

Look, I have no idea how baseball negotiations work, but I do know the only people who could tell Morosi & Nightengale that no formal offers have been submitted is Machado or his agent. And what do they accomplish by leaking this if not true? And a formal offer does not mean they haven’t talked numbers. In my line of work, you typically force buyers to present an indicative range of value first, filter out the non serious parties, and then request formal bids from a select group of players. I don’t see why this couldn’t be any different.
