Projection systems don't know to project for young players unfortunately, so no one should overreact to these numbers anyways.

One thing that supports signing both whales is if the players demand a bigger share of the revenue pie in the next CBA (which they should), then it's possible that we see a higher luxury tax threshold along with a salary floor. These in tandem would result in increased spending across the league and potentially make these contracts more team friendly in the long-run. Having said all that, even if you sign both of them, the odds are at least one of them opts-out the first chance they get. I think adding both of them is possible while most our core is still young & cheap.

It's simply looking at the batted ball profile / Statcast info (exit velocity & launch angle) from a given season and seeing if those balls would have likely been HRs at other parks. And the impact was pretty significant and not in a good direction for the Yankees.

Does anyone know how to use Statcast to project how many HR’s Manny would gain or lose playing at the Rate? I saw someone posted he would have lost like six or so by being a Yankee last year.

I generally agree, although I think a guy like Ottavino’s value could skyrocket if given the closer’s role and achieving similar results to last year. If I can get him for two years at $10M/$11M per, I’d be willing to do that without a whale.

Lol...that would have been one deep, but expensive bullpen. But seriously, adding Ottavino or Herrera would give us a fairy deep collection of high quality / high potential arms. I really hope we land one of those guys, preferably Ottavino.

I don’t think it’s a troll job at all. He simply rolled the dice based on some secondhand source and was wrong. The worst part is if Machado does sign with the Yankees, he’ll claim to have broken the story despite being completely full of shit at the time.

I really hope there’s more Machado heat today and something that suggests this process is coming to an end within the next week. That Rosenthal article didn’t really make me optimistic on that front.
