  1. Fully agree. And on top of that, our OF is a complete wasteland at the moment and he’s literally blocking no one. This was a smart, cheap way to get Engel’s bat of the lineup against RHP.
  2. You keep ripping the career .729 OPS but do you realize that makes him a slightly above league average hitter? Probaly not because you’re ignoring his career OBP of .352 which is very good.
  3. He’s a career league average hitter who can play all three OF spots. You can rip his 2018 season with the bat, but he’s been a pretty solid OF for most of his career.
  4. Look at his Statcast data. Very good batter’s eye, but the quality of contact is well below average. I’m not completely writing him off, but you don’t hand a fringe guy like him a full time role after his half season last year.
  5. 100% agree. There is a legit “baseball move” case for signing Jay. Hahn probably had to pinch himself to avoid all-out laughter when he claimed the Alonso trade was made for “baseball reasons.”
  6. I was expecting about $3M, so we basically paid a $1M or so Manny tax. Not complaining though...happy to have Jay in the CF mix.
  7. You can’t actually be this dense, this is all about landing Machado. And Delmonico had his opportunity and blew it. Also, this likely takes away at-bats from Engel more than anyone.
  8. The White Sox are adding Manny’s buddies because they want to a have tie-breaker in case the money is close with the Phillies and it’s a small gamble worth taking.
  9. The Yankees won 100 games last year and are his desired location, we have the most losses in the MLB over the last six years. Did you really think we could replicate their sales pitch?
  10. Honestly, I just don’t see why anyone would care about this. Engel is not a major league regular, Cordell has lost most of his prospect status, and Leury is semi-interesting but is made of glass and hasn’t done enough to be handed a job. Jay is probably more of a 4th OF at this point, but he’ll come cheap and may be better than our current internal options in CF. Ultimately this all about appeasing Machado, but for a couple million bucks he wouldn’t be a terrible addition on his own merits.
  11. What other free agent OFs are considerably better AND can play CF?
  12. Does it though? Seems like he’s a 4th OF at this point and wouldn’t command much money. I bet he would simply take Engel or Leury’s spot on the roster.
  13. I’ll be honest, even with Eloy we got lucky. He probaly would have been untouchable just few months later if you believe he would have replicated his 2H 2017 performance (post trade) with the Cubs. We literally got him right before he took his game to another level.
  14. Let’s be honest, if cheating is so rampant around the league, I’m guessing the White Sox did their homework on Manny and talked to some people around the league before taking on Alonso’s $9M salary. I seriously doubt a reduced ability to cheat on his wife will have any consideration on his decision.
  15. God, the community at SoxMachine b****es about everything. Pnoles is already whining about this move as if it somehow prevents them from doing other things. And they still don’t understand that Yonder was acquired to aid in the pursuit of Machado.
  16. Let me ask you this, but what “can’t miss” prospects have been traded over the last few years? I went back to 2015, and the only prospects who were ever ranked in the top 10 by Baseball America who have been traded are Moncada, Jimenez, Giolito, J.P. Crawford, & Meadows. And only Yoan & Eloy were still top 10 guys when they were traded, the rest had already lost luster and/or were post hype acquisitions. Teams just don’t give up “can’t miss” prospects typically and I’d argue Moncada still warrants that billing even if his contact issues end up limiting his ceiling a bit.
  17. I feel like things tend to go real quiet for us when we’re close on a deal.
  18. This post just reeks of hindsight and odd opinions. Moncada was literally a legit 70 FV prospect when we got him. He has Top 5 tools in all of baseball along with a plus batters eye. We chose him over other blue chippers (including Robles per rumors) because of his massive upside. Just because he didn’t explode in his age 23 season doesn’t make him some sort of bust. I don’t know why you think Lopez is a reliever, but you must not have been paying attention to him last year. He was much better down the stretch as he got a better feel for his changeup. Most of the reliever talk with him has been over durability concerns and he made 32 starts last year. Talking about Kopech’s off-field issues is absurd and doesn’t change the fact he’s a top 5 pitching prospect in all of baseball with legit ace upside. Yes, Giolito has been a huge disappointment and I’m not overly optimistic, but we all knew he was a project when we got him. Conveniently you don’t mention Dunning (a universal top 70 prospect) and Basabe (a FG Top 100 guy), who could be both important contributors going forward.
