I’m telling you right now with Machado, Joc, and a SP better than Santana we’d have a shot at the playoffs this year. If by the end of the season I’m way off base I’ll happily be ridiculed, but this division is a joke and we have the young talent in place to take a massive leap.

Hope everyone is excited for Alonso’s return next year! But in all seriousness, this could just be Ricky showing off our big offseason in front of the opening day crowd. I’ll start getting concerned if he’s in the lineup against the next LH starter.

Elite plate discipline with 70 grade raw power is no joke. Throw in a juiced ball and the kid has a chance to be a damn good hitter even with his swing & miss issues. I may be in the minority, but I also think catching has probably slowed his offensive development to some extent. Catching is the most demanding defensive position and it’s not unusual to catching prospects be late bloomers offensively.

They’re on the 40 man roster right now and as a result they’re burning through options. Ideally you don’t add a guy to the 40 man roster until they reach the majors or AAA. Unfortunately that was not an option with Adolfo & Basabe.

Honestly, that’s probably a good thing if Kluber burns a year of team control and possibly regresses a bit.

Amado Nunez playing 1B with Zangari out. Guessing that’s a short-term thing to get his bat into the lineup.

Honestly, probably Birmingham by default and unfortunately they have Tanner Banks going tonight. Really wish we could watch the Kanny game.

Winston Salem is going to be a hard pass once Robert, Madrigal, & Hansen gets promotions.

I stand by my statement. I fully expect Moncada to be a 4+ win player this season and said it all offseason. And I continue to expect him to grow and settle into the 5 to 6 win range upon maturity (with the potential for more). How many guys can you name that have both elite athleticism and a plus eye at the plate? There is zero reason for him not to be a plus defender & base-runner and even if just a league average hitter (like last year) he would probably be a 3 win guy. If he can address his strikeout problem (and the early returns are promising), the sky’s the limit with his bat because when he makes contact it’s of some of the highest quality in all of baseball. And based on his offseason, there’s no questioning his dedication or commitment to be great, so I feel confident he’ll make the necessary adjustments to become the high end hitter he’s capable of.

Here’s a big beef I have with Fangraphs’ rating. Look at their 2018 updated rankings and the compare them to 2019: Jimenez: 65 => 60 Madrigal: 60 => 55 Collins: 50 => 45 Basabe: 50 => 45 Adolfo: 50 => 45 Burdi: 50 => 40 Hansen: 50 => 40 What exactly did Jimenez, Madrigal, Basabe, & Adolfo do to drop a grade? Does Burdi’s injury really warrant a two grade drop? I totally get Collins’ drop and I can understand Hansen’s two grade drop as well, but the rest of these are nonsensical to me. I mean, they rated all of Basabe’s tools the same or better and still dropped him a grade. To me, it just seems they have skepticism of our player development (maybe after Moncada’s underperformance last year) and penalized the system across the board.

I know Tyler Johnson is injured, but surprised he’s listed on Winston Salem’s roster. Unless they just want to do a short rehab stint there, that’s a garbage ass assignment IMO. Also, Zangari is not listed on Kannapolis’ roster. Did he suffer another injury or something? Seems absolutely bizarre.

Is draft pick compensation really the culprit here? At least with Kuechel, I wouldn’t be surprised if him & Boras simply priced themselves out of this market.
