I find it interesting that article completely dismisses the Nationals as a viable threat for Harper despite rumors the past couple weeks suggesting they might be the favorite. Just goes to show how much bullshit is out there.

The Phillies signing both puts them above the luxury tax threshold. Maybe they move Franco and get slightly under, but they’d be pretty hamstrung in terms of other additions the next two years. I don’t see it happening.

Sounds like the Phillies prefer Machado, so this “hope they sign Harper first” plan won’t work for us. We’re going have to outbid or at least match the Phillies if we want Manny.

He probably is, but at least he can still get at-bats that way. If he hits pretty well this year, he’s potentially a DH option in 2020.

I’d rather go with Palka than Granderson if it were up to me.

Sure, but the point is a year ago we was worth quite a bit and could have been a nice piece of a trade. Luis Gonzalez was a 3rd round pick in 2017 if that is a better example.

Alec Hansen was taken in the 2nd round of the 2016 draft and was a top 60 prospect as recently as a year ago.

Not to us when we don’t plan on competing next year. Throwing away a high 2nd round draft pick and intentional slot money so we can have Pollack for just one year of our competitive window (2020) would be incredibly short-sighted.

Supposedly the Nationals, but they’re only $5M under the luxury tax. Adding Harper at a $35M AAV would effectively cost them $51M+ next year. For a team with three quality OFs, it would surprise me to see them spend that type of cash on Harper at this point.

100% agree. The Yankees exiting the Machado sweepstakes has greatly improved our chances of landing one of these guys. We should all be in positive moods right now.

Horrible comparison. Gar/Pax’s bad goes well beyond their ability to field a competitive team. Gar is a fucking snake and Paxson is a psycho who literally assaulted his own coach. I know many do not like KW around here, but I don’t think he’s remotely similar to those guys and Hahn is at least a halfway decent person.

I just don’t see how the Phillies are more attractive than us. They are slightly ahead of us in their rebuild, but they have much fewer reinforcements and are in a much tough division. Plus Chicago during the summer is actually awesome while Philadelphia pretty much sucks year round. All else being equal, I think he picks us, especially now that we have two of his buddies.

Don’t take this stuff personally, as it’s only natural for people to be skeptical. More times than not people claiming to have inside info are full of shit and we need to be cautious when someone new shows up with a source. That being said, most of us are glad you’re sharing what you’re hearing with us. Hopefully you are being truthful because there really isn’t anything more pathetic than a fake, wannabe baseball insider.
