Did anyone else get an MLB app update about the Sox maybe being the favorites for Machado? I’m sure it’s just regurgitating the Nightengale article, but I accidentally dismissed and would love to know what it said.

That’s awesome. I was in Ohio at college unfortunately, so I was stuck with a bunch of douchey Indians (and Reds) fans. My biggest regret in life is not being in Chicago for that game 4 victory and being able to attend that parade. At least I got to attend game 1 so that helps.

Yeah that sucks. The worst I had to deal with was the Sosa hype. A Cubs World Series appearance / victory would have converted a lot of the bandwagoner types.

Oh for sure, Sox fans still exist and in somewhat large numbers, but many have grown tired of the failures of our current regime. Signing a whale or two could really reinvigorate the fanbase.

I grew up in the north suburbs and there were at least several dozen Sox fans (I knew of) in a class of like 550. I also was a kid during Frank’s hayday so maybe that helped, although ChiSoxMike was likely a kid during 2005 which should have helped even more.

If we land Machado at a somewhat reasonable amount, it’s definitely reflects “right time right place” for us. Most of the big spenders are either maxed out right now or already have quality 3B. Throw in the character concerns and suddenly his market shrank to only a handful of teams. We should all be grateful for his playoff shenanigans because that likely saved us some serious money (assuming we land him).

He’s fed stuff, sometimes it’s true and sometimes it’s not. He has to play the plant game to get the breaking stuff. Just how it works for the most part.

If something is happening tomorrow, hopefully we get some leaks tonight.

I think people are far more excited because the Philly beat writer said they have moved onto Harper. I think most of us are pretty mixed on Bob’s report.

If it’s only seven or even 8 years that would be fantastic.

Realistically one or both guys would opt out when before starts to become an issue. I would happily add both as long as we plan on having $170M+ payrolls for the foreseeable future.

By the time this gets announced, a multiplier probanly wouldn’t be needed. I mean we could be up to 250+ pages before the end of the day and 280 by tomorrow easily.

I think he’s just guessing, but the fact the Phillies have somewhat pivoted to Harper may suggest we’re close on Manny. I fully agree with raBBit that something happens by Wednesday.

That’s probably true, but I would be surprised if the Yankees jumped ship if the best offer Machado was sitting on was $200M. I agree that things have likely changed since that offer was submitted (assuming it was).

Wasn’t there a rumored 5 hour meeting with the Nats owner and didn’t Bowden (lol) claim they had made another offer well north of $300M?
