I still think there is a chance we land two whales (even Phil Rogers agrees with me ?), but I only make those declarations about once a week so it didn’t fit the daily narrative unfortunately.

Catching up in this tread, I just realized every single day is the same: People wake up pisssd off that nothing has happened Several people then claim things are quiet because it’s “the calm before the storm” Posters get desperate and start posting blantantly obvious troll posts “it’s probably nothing, but anyone see this [John] tweet?” Sidebars start ensuring about riveting subjects such as model trains, favorite movie in the Pitch Perfect franchise, etc. Posters start getting desperate again and ask the board insiders for any nuggets, eventually one will show up but only provides vague, semi-positive comments like “be patient, things are happening” Caulfield posts a random article without a link and not in a quote box and proceeds to add his own commentary throughout People start getting really pissed about the lack of momentum and say Rick is an incompetent dick and that cheap Jerry should move the franchise to Portland Finally a rumor comes out from a twitter account with a blue check mark, the board completely loses its shit no matter if good or bad If positive, mock lineups are immediately generated (half with Harper); if negative several posters admit defeat & feel compelled to say we must “stay the course” Bob Nightengale tweets out within 30 minutes “sorry, but that’s not true!”; the board calls him a hack and then debates endlessly who planted what Nothing else happens for a few hours, but some posters remain optimistic something will break later that night and make it clear they’re sticking around Finally the day ends with no real news, but one poster makes the bold prediction “tomorrow will be the day” before we all call it quits for the night Wake up the next day and rinse & fucking repeat. I pray to the baseball gods that by the time I catch up there will be some legit rumors, because I honestly can’t take this endless cycle much longer.

Fair enough, definitely better than the alternative.

100% agree. By all means take some short-term risks, but I do not want to trade any of our top prospects for a TOR starter. Let’s see what we have in Rodon, Lopez, & Giolito this year, see where Cease, Dunning, & Hansen are at the end of the season, and allow our glut AA prospects to potentially increase their value substantially with strong seasons. Next offseason you can look at adding stud SP via trade if needed.

Lol...this is spot-on. That being said, I’m just of the mindset that at some point you got to stop fucking around and find a price that works for both sides. If $300M is the magic number, make it over 9 or 10 years and demand any opt-out is after year 4. Ultimately all that matters is we land one of the whales, but no will be ok if they get too cute, overplay their hand, and allow a team to sneak into this process.

Let’s do 9/$300M and call it a day.

I tend to agree, but Heyward only got 8/$184M from the Cubs. He wasn’t as good as Manny at the time (but came with less off the field baggage), but is he really worth $7M to $8M less in AAV? I don’t know, maybe we were assuming too much when we were talking about 10/$350M contracts for these guys.

Definitely could be that too, but the timing is very odd. We haven’t seen this much heat from the national guys in like forever. To happen this late at night is promising to me.

Yeah, it really seems like Machado’s camp leaked the Sox’s latest offer and Sox are using to go-to guy to put out the fire. The fact this is all happening this late at night should be eye-opening in regards to how close a deal just may be.

God damn Bob Nightengale right on cue fucking this party up. I still find Passan to be far more reliable and I’m huge believer in Gomez, so perhaps this is the Sox trying to cover their tracks.
