JoeCoolMan = Chili

JoeCoolMan (aka Chili) claims Machado wanted to sign with the Sox prior to the tour and cancel all his visits, but his agent somehow made him still do them all. Hasn’t really been much since then, other than the national media hyping up the Yankees and Machado claiming he had an “awesome” visit with the Phillies.

Why is that? I’m not sure we can place much credence JoeCoolMan’s rumor.

Their owner also cavaeted “not too stupid though” or something like that.

They already lost out on multiple free agents because they wouldn’t spend stupid money so who really knows.

He doesn’t like the actual city or the thought of living there per the rumor.

I don’t see them offering $400M.

Very true, but for whatever reason I believe we went above and beyond to lay out our vision for the franchise. I just don’t get the sense the Phillies will do something of that magnitude, but obviously this is just me speculating.

I think Machado will move with a sense of urgency. For better or worse, Boras plays by his own rules. Sometimes it works out for his clients, other times it does not.

I think Machado might go sooner than that as his market is basically down to three teams and we have no idea if the Yankees will even make a compelling bid. His agent isn’t Boras and if they’re smart they should move swiftly to avoid losing a third of their interested parties.

Let’s be honest, everyone just assumes the Yankees will sign everyone and the Phillies told the world they planned to spend “stupid money”. You have to be paying a bit more attention to what our front office has been signaling and other factors (new TV deal, aging owner, etc.) to believe the White Sox are the favorite.

I truly don’t believe the Yankees will overpay for Machado when Arenado & Rendon are potentially cheaper free agents options next year. I think it will be their price or bust for him and I’d expect the Sox & Phillies to both have substantially higher offers.

The Sox being irrelevant doesn’t help matters, but you’re correct that money is by far the most important factor. If Reinsdorf truly won’t be outbid, the chances we land one of these guys is pretty high. We just go to hope that is the case and Jerry has a blank check on the table for these guys.
