  1. Which makes sense. They need a legit ace much more than an expensive OF upgrade, although I do think they’ll end up with Kluber & Pollack and accomplish both goals.
  2. The Reds didn’t really take on that much money and moved a completely useless player in the process. The Cubs would have to move Heyward and not take any money back, which is going to be exponentially more difficult to pull off.
  3. I don’t care what anyone says, Harper is totally signing with us.
  4. Vaughn is definitely intriguing. I know in a perfect world you’d want an up the middle type player or a pitcher with ace upside at #3, but I’m not passing on a 1B if my scouts are confident he can be elite.
  5. This is all about leveraging our financial resources to add impact talent. Tim Anderson (at least right now) isn’t going to prevent me from adding a 27 year old, stud SS.
  6. The plan shouldn’t change if we miss out on Machado & Harper. Next year we simply go after Arenado, Rendon, & Bogaerts. Definitely puts a ton of pressure on us to land one of those guys, but that’s still better than taking on a bad long-term contract IMO.
  7. You can’t honestly think they added Alonso for any other reason but to improve their chances with Machado right?
  8. I don’t see ace upside with Giolito, but maybe a quality #3 starter with a few more ticks and more consistent command.
  9. Moncada probaly has top 5 tools in all of baseball and a great eye, so plenty of reason to be optimistic with him despite struggling some as a 23 year old.
  10. Especially when Harper struggles to stay healthy and Machado has a history of knee problems.
  11. I don’t disagree, but Cooper at least has a track record of success. I do worry the game may be passing him by a bit.
  12. I find it crazy that Steverson & Sparks are both still here given the struggles of most of our young hitters.
  13. The chances Harper passes on signicant money is slim to none IMO. He wants a record breaking contract.
  14. If they miss on these two guys, it puts the rebuild in a really tough spot. I’ll maintain optimism until that actually happens though, because I have to believe the front office sees it the same way and will act accordingly with their bids.
  15. My take on the situation is the Sox & Phillies have both made offers much bigger than the Yankees and Team Machado is giving New York a couple weeks to raise their bid before settling on one of the other two teams.
  16. We haven’t whiffed on either yet. And I still don’t get why everyone is suddenly so negative on Machado.
  17. Kluber + Pollock is a better use of resources than Harper (for them) and could be had for probably less total dollars. I do think they’ll go back and make an offer for Harper first, but I think it will be of the 4 or 5 year variety and I can’t see Bryce accepting that.
  18. Jared Mitchell was a speed based player and a poor comparison. Burger’s injury may prevent him from sticking at 3B but he still has the ability to potentially hit enough for 1B or DH. Way too early to write him off.
  19. Not that I believe this is realistic at all, but figured I’d post this while everyone is already down about Harper.
  20. A “husky” guy with huge question marks about being able to stick at 3B and just ruptured his Achilles twice is probably not an apt comparison. And yes, I’d be pissed if we traded him in this type of deal.
  21. We’re on the same page fathom, I’m gusssing they trade Verdugo+ for Kluber or Realmuto and then turn around and sign Pollack for a fraction of the cost of Harper. That’s a way better use of their financial resources IMO.
