The Unofficial Official Michael Kopech Thread
Chicago White Sox replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He'll start in AA right? That should be a fun rotation to follow with him, Adams, Stephens, Guerrero, & potentially Hansen at some point. -
Cardinals Interested in Adam Eaton
Chicago White Sox replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Eaton to Nationals, Quintana to Astros, Frazier to Dodgers, & Robertson to Yankees. Would be the best way to get little taste from all the top farm systems. -
Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
Chicago White Sox replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 12:46 PM) Reed's value has taken a major hit in my opinion by striking out at a 34% rate (48 times in 141 plate appearances) and batting .164 in 45 games He was absolutely awful against lefties at the mlb level and is a below average defensive player Could he be a future DH? Possibly, but his mlb showing this year did significant damage to his prospect value. This season is make or break for him because if the bat does not play he has no defensive value or ability to play a position besides 1B or DH. Martes, Tucker and Reed would be a really interesting package, but I'm not sure if Houston would sell that low on a player like Reed who does have power if he can improve his contact Reed is a perfect buy low guy for us. He's unlikely to get a shot in Houston anytime soon and I'm not sure dominating the PCL again is really going to repair his value. He makes a lot of sense as the third piece in Quintana trade for both sides IMO. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:07 AM) I don't believe Jose Quintana will be on the White Sox at day's end. I think you are right. The market appears to be too good to pass up. -

QUOTE (Mattchoo @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:42 AM) With Q being young, should we just hold onto him then? No, we should definitely move him if teams view him as 95% of the asset Sale is. By not getting major league ready pieces in the Sale trade, we've effectively pushed this rebuild back a year. 2017 & 2018 will both be lost seasons now. 2019 poises some hope depending how guys develop and if we are able to sign any impact free agents, but it's far from a certainty. Given all that, give me three top 100 prospects and a wild card for Q and I think that provides us with a better chance of having a legitimate competive window from 2019/2020 to 2023. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:22 AM) I could be convincable the other way, but my initial impression is that I'm unhappy with that package for Quintana without Bregman. Can you make a case the other way? You're not getting Bregman for Quintana. They wouldn't trade him for Sale, they won't trade him for Q. I get that Jose has basically been as good as Chris the past couple years, is cheaper, and has an extra year of control, but the reality is he's not Chris Sale. He does not have the same stuff and therefore does not have the same ability to carry a team in the postseason. If you have a must win game, would you rather have on the mind? It's Sale and it's not even close. Proper valuations of Sale & Q must look beyond just their projected WAR & potential surplus value. Q's additional control and cheaper salary may cut the gap considerably, but there's no doubt in my mind that Sale is the more desirable player to other GMs. -
Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
Chicago White Sox replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I still think Houston makes the most sense here. They can get Quintana without having to include Bregman. A package built around Tucker, Reed, and an arm like Paulino would make a ton of sense for both teams IMO. -

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:42 PM) Hmm...wonder if Robles Gialito is still on the table? If not hopefully Houston realizes they need to step up for a SP now. And no Bregman still doesn't need to be involved. AJ Reed, Kyle Tucker, and David Paulino is real nice start though. Lol dude...we are on the same page. -

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:21 AM) If that guy from the Red Sox forum is right about Moncada/Kopech/Basabe, I think I'd still do the Nats deal with Giolito/Robles + If Red Sox kick in Devers+ then I'd be all for it. This, I'm not doing a deal with the Red Sox without one or Moncada/Benintendi, Devers, and one of Kopech/Groome at bare minimum. If Kopech & Basabe are the second and third pieces in a Sale deal then that's a bad deal IMO. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:15 AM) I don't disagree with you about Turner, I'm just saying I think Hahn and Co are holding out for Turner still. I think if the discussion was about the remaining prospects, and Giolito and Robles were agreed upon, they would have been hammering this thing out last night. The absence of rumors overnight suggests that did not happen. Not quite sure there is as big of a difference between Turner's perceived value and Benintendi's, but you certainly seem to feel as though Benintendi is a possible get while Turner is not. Is there really a huge difference between a package of Benintendi/Devers/Kopech and Turner/Giolito/Robles? I'd take the latter, but I think some here would choose the former. Kopech is significantly overrated IMO. He's got great, great stuff, but he's not a premium prospect at this point like the other guys you listed. I think that Nationals offer is in a completely different league. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:10 AM) Giolito and Robles or its equivalent will be there for Sale months from now. 0 reason to rush into that on the first day of the winter meetings. No it won't and that's the problem. There are only so many teams that can afford Sale and they will move on to lesser options at some point. We have some leverage now, we won't in a few weeks. -

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:02 AM) You guys are all kidding yourselves if you think Turner is going to be in a package.... My guess is that Giolito and Robles are agreed upon but Hahn and Co. are trying to get as many of Lopez, Fedde, Joe Ross, Stevenson, Kieboom, Severino as possible and the Nats are balking at which 1's and how many go with the 2 headliners. All the while the Hahn is still checking his phone every 5 seconds waiting for a better offer to come in. Presumably waiting for Boston to come off of 1 of Moncada/Benentendi + Devers + 1 of Kopesch/Groome or Houston to let go of Bregman + Tucker + Musgrove/Paulino. I'd be surprised if anyone else is seriously in the mix. 100% agree. Sox are pushing for as many of those second tier prospects, while floating some version of the Nationals offer to Boston & Houston in hopes of one of them topping. Washington giving up Turner is simply counterproductive to adding Sale. Their goal is maximize their two year window with Harper and Tuner is an important part of that. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:00 AM) But unlike ours of past he has an advanced approach at the plate including good two strike approach and high contact rate. Basically sounds like Byron Buxton. Robles is also a plus defender in CF. There's a ton of value in his defense & arm strength that people are completely ignoring. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:46 AM) So what is the closest thing to this trade? Off the top of my head it's Andrew Miller (top pitching prospect who is MLB ready) and Cameron Maybin (top hitting prospect with limited experience ) +parts for Miguel Cabrera. Obviously one of the worst trades in MLB history. I'm sure there's something better though. That'a probably the best example to be honest. Miller & Maybin were both top 10 prospects. Cabrera was a 24 year old, 5+ WAR player at the time. He probably had less control than Sale, but pretty similar value in the grand scheme of things. -

QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:41 AM) If we truly rebuild you can expect Q to get traded. If we aren't yet competing in 2-3 years you can expect Rodon to be moved as well. How many guys are gonna get injured too? Bust? You need to be 7-10 pitching prospects deep. I think the problem is many posters here were expecting some magical Sale trade that plugged all our holes and then we'd be ready to compete. Hell, some posters thought the return would be so great that we could actually get better after dealing Chris. The reality is we're going to have to move a lot more pieces than just Sale to clean up this mess. If we get pitching back in a deal so be it. The goal should be added as much high-end talent as possible and worrying about fit later. -

QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:16 AM) I do see that now. However, he still only put up a .741 OPS in his 3rd MiLB season, which does not scream "franchise altering" in the least. I still hate this as a suggested return for a Cy Young contender, particularly give his age and surplus value. There is so much wrong with this post it actually makes me angry just reading it. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:17 AM) Trading a Chris Sale is also unprecedented So an unprecedented trade chip yields an unprecedented return and yet half the posters here are acting like spoiled little brats who didn't get a Playstation VR for Christmas. Some of you guys need to reset expectations if you think two top 10 prospects is a s***ty start to a Sale deal. -

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
Chicago White Sox replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Real talk, but can anyone name a single trade where a team got two top 10-15 prospects? There's only been a handful of these guys moved in the past decade, so I seriously doubt it's ever happened. Therefore, getting two top 10-15 prospects would pretty much be unprecedented. And despite that, people b**** these guys aren't appropriate centerpieces. -
