  1. Dickerson has been a similar hitter and will only cost money (and probably not that much). Zero reason to trade for Schwarber who is a nice but overrated player.
  2. Why are we going cheap when we have a fuckton of money to spend? At the impact where possible, even if that happens to be a 32 year old DH-only guy.
  3. Let’s maybe set our expectations a bit higher.
  4. Mods - I’d check if this poster is OneDog / Tommy Longo. We already know he’s created new accounts in the past and this guy has the same exact posting style as the legendary troll Longo.
  5. I just totally disagree with this assessment. Moncada, Anderson, Eloy, Robert, Madrigal, & Vaughn is six high-end / elite talents on the positional side. Giolito, Cease, & Kopech are the same on the pitching side. Do we need to plug holes? Most definitely, but we have tons of to do that. Trading multiple core pieces for one year of Betts (such as your Cease + Madrigal proposal) would be giving up on the rebuilding right when it’s starting to take shape and is completely nonsensical.
  6. Why are we risking the long-term viability of the rebuild to improve our chances of winning a ring in 2020? None of this makes any sense IMO.
  7. I love Greg is trolling both threads now.
  8. It would pretty much have to be four years given what he’d be foregoing. That being said, 4/$90M might work for both sides. His market shouldn’t huge, as there are only a handful of teams in the mix.
  9. The difference is Strasburg can opt-out of his contract which is high probability, whereas the Cubs would have to pass on their team option which will never happen. Just seems like a waste of space in article like this IMO.
  10. I mean, at some point it has to be right. Only two teams in baseball had four guys making over $20M/per last year and those were the Cubs & Red Sox. I don’t see the Padres joining that elite company of spenders, but to each their own.
  11. While I’d prefer Grandal, I’ll be happy if we land one of them. We need at least one significant positional upgrade on top of everything else.
  12. JDM seems like a total White Sox signing and if they plan on limiting any Abreu deal to two years it could work.
  13. How in the world can the Padres afford Strasburg? They have like $75M tied up to Machado, Myers, & Hosmer.
  14. Wheeler was like 14th in fWAR this year amongst pitchers this year and has the talent to back it up.
  15. Duber should be embarrassed even listing him in that article.
  16. 100% this. We are a good offseason away from potentially being a 90+ win team next year and that doesn’t require Cole or Rendon. Until the front office fails in its execution, I don’t get why people automatically assume the worst. The Sox are going to spend a fuckton of money this offseason, just got to hope they pick the right guys this time.
  17. They can easily spend that much in an offseason. I would be disappointed and quite honestly feel cheated by management if we aren’t at least at $125M next year.
  18. I’ll keep saying it, but Wheeler is a no brainer if Cole & Strasburg are off the table.
  19. Plenty of star players have signed with teams in far less attractive markets, we have lost out on free agents primarily due to us not being the high bidder.
  20. Samson claimed Reinsdorf purposely wanted to in second place specifically to have that “carrot” to dangle, which is straight up ridiculous. You are arguing against a completely different point.
  21. No, but why would the Cubs buy him out?
  22. Rizzo isn’t a free agent, but you knew that already.
