  1. QUOTE (The Critic @ Nov 28, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) Please stay in alphabetical order. Quite sure that letters are not marcus' strong point.

    Films Thread

    Shouldn't a station called AMC, American Movie Classics, play good movies, not Demolition Man?
  4. I was reading my Sports Illustrated today and the 'Sign of the Apocalypse' was "Iraqi detainees at a prison camp in Baghdad have been taunting U.S. soldiers from Wisconsin about Brett Farve's signing with the Vikings." I think this is kinda weird that the detainees would know that much about American sports. Maybe they got inundated with ESPN coverage too. I didn't know where to put this, so move this if you think it belongs somewhere else.
  5. All I know is I don't want any of you coming to the Outlet Mall in Aurora. We are already going to have enough people coming. Ugh, I have to work 2a-3p on both Friday and Saturday.
  6. Unlikely any books that any of us would write would have as big an impact of the one celebrating it's anniversary today, "Origin of Species" by Charles Darwin
  7. So is it just me, or does anyone else really hate the Canucks? I think they all come off as a bunch of stuck-ups and crybabies. Maybe it's just because of the playoff series last year, but I love whenever we play them and get a chance to kick their ass. I mean they can never just accept that they lost. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/teams/re...2&sport=nhl
  8. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) The science part of Political Science refers to the scientific method we all learned about in like 5th grade. Independent and dependent variables, hypothesis, etc. etc. PolSci uses the same method as other sciences, but instead of running experiments to prove the hypothesis we have to look at historical trends and causality. Science doesn't have to be limited to test-tubes or excavation. The one difference I'm willing to acknowledge is PolSci doesn't have overwhelmingly supported theories like evolution for biology or gravity for physics. Ive heard it put as "there are no laws of political science." Not that I think that forbids PolSci from being counted as a scientific discipline. I guess a good follow-up would be, is Political Science important? That probably was Coburn was getting at with this amendment. You have no idea how happy this made me feel when I read it, after dealing with people who just brush it off and push phony science for the past week and a half out at school. Oh and political science...I don't know, I don't really think of it as science, but that doesn't make it useless. It is still a very important field.
  9. QUOTE (Soxy @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) Ach N Lous. If you only knew how often Kevin and his family go there. I was just there Sunday night it was delicious. I know it's a little late for lunch now Kev but Weedee's is great if you haven't been there yet.
  10. Awesome!!!! :headbang :headbang
  11. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 11:15 PM) Galloping Ghost Grange groaning in the grave tonight. Hockey is now on my front burner, no more football.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 04:39 PM) Somehow I don't think that one was fair. Too far? Many apologies
  13. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) I care everything about this Bears talk, Dallas Cowboys are God aweful. Revised
  14. Right before they went off the air today on the Afternoon Saloon, Harry said that he heard from a source close to the Sox that Hudson is the centerpiece to a possible deal for Gonzalez. FWIW
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 05:49 PM) Naw, he's a Jewish entertainer. He's got to have some standards. Of course he does, his dad was a rabbi for Christ's sake
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) Fiber is one of the nutrients in applesauce. Going to a lecture about 'Creation Science' tonight for my 'Evolution and the Creationist Challenge' course. Should be interesting.
  17. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 09:23 PM) I had a f***ed up dream involving a female co-worker flying an F-22, who proceeds to crash it. As a result of the crash she got decapitated but she was still alive, talking "oh this sucks" etc. So some other dude in the dream walks over to her disembodied head and steps on her neck to stop the bleeding (nevermind that if this happened, first off she'd be dead instantly and the blood would be spurting from her body, not her head). She rolls her eyes and says "oh, what a day." I was going to tell her about this dream the next day but it's too f***ing bizarre to share. so you decided to tell us
  18. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 06:17 AM) Everclear and Jager are possibly the two worst human innovations in the history of respectable drinking. Agreed
  19. Zebra Mussels are an invasive species to Lake Michigan and a pain cause they grow everywhere.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 06:27 AM) I am patiently waiting for the Black Friday madness to come about. I finally have some money to put into a TV, computer, or something else we would like, now I just need to fast forward 2 1/2 weeks. Isnt there usually a thread where people start posting "leaked" deals? I'm not looking forward to black Friday. Last year was horrendous. I worked a double at my job (9pm Thursday-6am Friday and then 1pm Friday-10pm Friday) Don't know if I want to do that again this year. I seriously have come to doubt the sanity of some of the people that come to shop at 2,3,4 in the morning in general, but especially the ones while who dragged their kids with them. Plus last year, I caught the flu or something that day and couldn't work Saturday and Sunday, so it wasn't like I go more hours than normal.
  21. Just go tickets for the November 11th game (Bobby Hull Heritage Night) on Ebay and I can't wait to go. First game of the year for me this year.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 08:28 AM) Sunday at 2 am! Sorry I didn't know I needed to be that specific.
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 07:11 AM) I think people also don't realize that this emergence of blackhawks popularity is a RE-emergence, and even if we weren't good, the good will that seemed to occur after Wirtz death was already the beginning of a return to the blackhawks. That man really did squeze the souls out of the fans of the sport, myself included. In 91-94, I can remember, even though I was little, Hawks-Wings was a huge deal, covered a lot on the radio, everywhere. Hawks were often front page news. And this was at the height of the bulls. So, I think some of you are just applying a small sample size (98-2007) and projecting it to the blackhawks entire existence. I totally agree with you on this. This is pretty much what happen to my dad. I can remember going to many games growing up at the old stadium, and watching them on SportsChannel with my dad. Then I just remember my dad getting angrier and angrier with the team up until "Dollar" Bill's death and Rocky turning it around. It's great to see my dad return to one of his true loves, hockey. Now, whenever we go to games he tells me all the stories about hockey (60's-80's) and how big it used to be in the city. People sometimes don't realize this especially just the younger generation because of what went on for years before the re-emergence. Right now, there is no doubt there is a bigger following for the Bull's and the NBA. The NHL kinda screwed themselves when they moved away from ESPN, especially nationally. Hockey is also definitely more of a niche sport as well. Just look at high school and college hockey, all schools have basketball teams but only some to very few have more than club teams in hockey. Also, someone mentioned the game at Wrigley possibly skewing the attendence number? That game did not count for the home attendance only the games at the UC did.
  24. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 11:09 PM) When do we change the clocks this year? We "Fall Back" one hour on Sunday.
