  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 25, 2011 -> 11:55 AM) Not a one besides that. He plays a good LF as long as he doesn't have to throw the ball more than 5 feet. Other than that, he's slightly better than Pablo Ozuna. Don't forget the B+ in hustle he posted last year and the A+ in acting like his weak points get over-shadowed by his good points.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 25, 2011 -> 10:04 AM) Last 5 years 2006: 162 G 58 SB 20 CS 74.3 SB% 2007: 162 G 64 SB 15 CS 81.0 SB% 2008: 119 G 40 SB 12 CS 76.9 SB% 2009: 145 G 30 SB 12 CS 71.4 SB% 2010: 160 G 68 SB 18 CS 79.1 SB% Obviously he was not quite a full time player in 2008/2009 but the bolded of what you say doesn't really appear to be true. He had the most stolen bases of his career last year and stole at one of the higher rates of his career as well. Sweet. Does he have any other stats?
  3. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 23, 2011 -> 10:58 PM) I want his bat on the opening day roster because he murders left handers so anything that keeps him there I am in favor . Me too. Is there any way possible that he could beat out Juan Pierre for Left Field? LA benched him for twice the price so money isn't an issue. That would give us something like: Rios Beckham Dunn PK Quentin Pierzynski Morel Ramirez Viciedo or some other way at the bottom to have a deadly turnover after the 1st inning.
  4. I'd love it if Carlos earned the 3hole during ST. Beckham at 2 sounds great.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 05:38 PM) Just because KW and the front office f***ed up with that ridiculous extension doesn't mean Teahen is special and deserves the benefit of the doubt. Unless he hits .800 in spring training he should not be the the opening day 3B. I don't think you have to worry. Teahen is so blatantly unathletic that I'm sure he'll play himself out of any starting role. The front office and Ozzie can't say that to his face though; these are human beings here and I'm sure Teahen signed the extension with a promise of X amount of playing time, and the whole situation has gotten really awkward because he sucked and the team sucked when he played last year.
  6. I don't think this means Teahen is the starter. It would be a slap in the face to the guy you just extended for 3 years to tell him he has no shot at starting. I think they will break camp with Morel at 3rd because he earns it over Teahen, but Teahen will get every shot to win the job. Teahen could be one motivated mofo right now.
  7. So Brent "the morl" Morel Macpherson, I like it!
  8. Does anybody know how Brent pronounces his last name? At first it was MORel, like morl, but then Hawk changed it to moREL, emphasis on the last syllable. I thought it was the first way forever.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 12:07 PM) I remember that episode. Twas weird. I can't remember my favorite episodes of House. Nice work
  10. I just don't see why this needs to be addressed immediately in 2011. The only way for him to start is to take Peavy's place, and the longest that can be is through May, with many thinking Peav will return much sooner. People seem to think it's a bad idea to flip-flop him from starter to bullpen in the same season so why not just keep him in the pen this year? Let him start next year when we have rotation spots open. This year he needs to be scaring guys like Joe Mauer again in critical, late-inning situations.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 12:32 PM) What if he does that as a starter in April? I'd like that too. So I think you're assuming Peavy won't be ready for OD. What happens when Peavy's ready? Trade a starter and keep Sale in the rotation or slide Sale to the pen? I don't see it happening this year.
  12. What about the possibility of Sale carrying the entire bullpen/team on his back all season? What if he starts mowing through the AL Central? We need that chance.
  13. I'm actually the most excited about that bullpen, especially if Sale is at the ass end of it. The only mental midget in the pen might be Sergio, and hopefully his up and down appearances can be attributed simply to being a rookie. Cause he got the stuff, boy howdy!
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 12:47 PM) That team scored the 4th most amount of runs in White Sox history. It's also the second highest amount of runs scored in the modern era (beyond 2000) for the team. The offense in the second half wasn't that bad, they were at least slightly above average. The team had a .778 OPS in the second half, a .829 in the first half. That is a noticeable difference, but they weren't as bad as some thought they were in the second half. The 06 offense, as a whole, was one of the best offenses in the history of the team by numerous team statistical measures, there's no way around that. Your point is that the team was inconsistent (all or nothing), even though they did score a bunch of runs. The problem with that statement is that the 06 team had a better OPS in losses than most of the balanced teams in the team's recent history, like the 05 Sox and last year's team. Consistency of a team's offense is usually over-exaggerated. Very rarely will you have a team score 15 runs in one game and 0 in another. But when that happens, it seems like the severity of that notion is amplified. However, that's not always what happens and I'd rather have a team full of boppers than a team of scrappy Marco Scutaros any day. I see. You think I'm advocating that a small-ball team is better than power. I'm totally on board with as much power as possible. My complaint over this last decade, is that yea maybe we had a great offense in '06 according to Sox standards, but our team BA and OBP are consistently below the best offensive teams. Even in our best year of the decade, 2006, our offense still wasn't on par with the annual Yankee batting lines. We are traditionally horrible offensively in games we lose, which is when I think we don't hit homers. I'm agreeing with ptac in that adding Dunn doesn't necessarily change our hit-or-miss offensive approach to every game. This 2011 team, although stacked, may suffer the same traditional fate of losing a bunch of games 2-1, 3-2, 3-1, 1-0. But we are f***ing stacked more than ever so I have more optimism for the offense than usual this year. But it is still possible that we clog a boat load of bases and never knock guys in again as usual.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 11:11 AM) That team was victimized by the pitching falling apart. As hot/cold that offense was, the pitching was almost worse. In wins, they had a 2.34 ERA. In losses? 8.34. The 05 team, which is probably the model team you're looking at in terms of consistency, had an OPS 19 points lower in losses than the 06 Sox. There's nothing with building a team around power, especially when you play in the kind of park we do. Last year wasn't exactly "corpse-ball" free either. Last year's team had a .625 OPS in losses. Surprise, surprise. The whole notion of "corpse-ball" is exaggerated. Corpse-ball is 2007 where the team had a bunch of AAAA players and couldn't score to save their lives. Saying one of the best offenses in the history of the team played "corpse-ball" is just incorrect. I feel like you didn't read my post, accidentally clicked on reply and then typed all this. If one good half of '06 is one of the best in team history, then you are making my point for me. And even more importantly, if you are claiming the entire '06 campaign was one of the best offenses in team history, then that just amplifies my point louder than speakers.
  16. QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 05:00 PM) You mean like 06 when the White Sox offense was raping 'erbody out there? Yea, that sucked. Yea I do remember that great first half of the season when we were the greatest team ever assembled. (.288/.354 as a team) But then I remember the horrible 2nd half all the way through 2009 where we averaged around .260/.325 To describe Corpse Ball even more- during that same stretch the Sox batted around .300/.375 in games they won and a putrid .215/.280 in games they lost. First half 2006 was the outlier that entire time. Twins consistently have a clip around .270-.280/.340-.350 while the Yanks are annually around .280-.290/.350-.360. Those teams don't dip as low in loses as we do either. Just sayin we never look like a .340+ OBP team, even during our decade of having "power teams", except for the games where we connect on homers. And it's so hard to watch year in and out. This team seems pretty stacked but I still fear corpse every year.
  17. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 12:31 PM) I am. Your hitters in the middle of the lineup are paid this kind of money to drive in runs, not to set up for the next guy. And yes I know they get pitched around but if there is a pitch that is borderline, hit it. Do you envision a return to the corpseball days of Thome, Konerko, Dye? Those were the worst, and people used to think that was a good offense. I'm with ya man, I hope this doesn't become Corpse: The Return. I guess we have better players all around so I don't see it being that bad with Dunn.
  18. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 01:41 PM) +1 It's also funny that the original article criticizes Washington for losing both Jackson and Dunn and ending up with a couple draft picks instead. Well, we're in the exact opposite position -- we got both Jackson and Dunn, and gave up a draft pick to do it (we would have lost Hudson anyway if the Jackson-Dunn trade went through). If Washington was foolish for losing both players, it sure seems like we're the beneficiary in the end. Sure, we could have had Dunn instead of Jackson for a few months last year (not sure that would have gotten us any extra wins since Jackson pitched well), and now we have both for all of next year. Hell yea. We got the best 2 out of the 5 players involved here: Jackson n Dunn. Arizona got Holmberg n Hudson, and the Nats are stuck with a 1st rounder. I don't care if Hudson goes on to do pretty well because he didn't look ready to help us at the time, and he'll never have half the stuff that EJax has.
  19. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 10:42 AM) Not to mention when the trade happened, Hudson wasn't very good...at all. Exactly. Too bad you just get hindsight arguments all the time on here. JR is quoted on the club saying trading Hudson was "a no-brainer". So to call the trade a reason to fire KW just looks misinformed on a few different levels.
  20. I'm sure Jerry puts all his profits into some sort of trust or separate company, so yea there's nothing stopping him from putting his share of Bulls' profit into the White Sox. He can do whatever he wants. It has nothing to do with league rules or anything of the sort. It's his money to invest where he pleases.
  21. The honorable thing for Pavano to do would be to go play for the Yankees for like 5 bucks, but yea right.
  22. I agree with Jam. Our post 2005 farm has netted us A. Ramirez, Peavy, Ejax, Danks, Floyd, CQ, Pierre. Add recent graduates Viciedo, Morel, and Sale, with Morel being the only real question mark, and sweet fancy moses, that's one hell of a farm. One hell of a GM. Who's farm has outproduced that group of players? Oh, can't forget Mr. Teahen. Haha, man all this typing has made me realize how entirely pointless it is to be upset at our farm. It's damn near our entire roster.
  23. Remember that trickling little double down the third base line near the end of 09? That was awesome, and I wished so bad he would continually do that.
  24. Yea but you don't count on him hitting it the other way. Defenses don't respect his ability to hit it the other way at all. My point was that only with "shift" guys would you ever even consider defending foul territory. I could only think of Thome as an example of a hitter who defense's completely disrespect like clockwork. Ortiz gets a shift too, right?
  25. QUOTE (striker @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 09:56 PM) Does anyone else think the Sox will still be .500 against the Royals? Yes and no. Part of me thinks our bats are going to overpower their staff this year, but in reality who am I kidding? They never lay down for us.
