  1. QUOTE (pktmotion @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 09:47 AM) Per Chi City Sports. I don't know if this was posted yet, but it looks like the White Sox dealt Wes Whisler to the Marlins last night. Others are saying its Whisler and two other minor leaguers, but no details have been released. Who do you think the White Sox could be targeting? Cantu? Sanchez? Ross? maybe Logan Morrison? I would love Morrison but no way could we get him for Whisler.
  2. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 10:03 AM) Its funny how everyone keeps remarking about his defense when I doubt anyone who has posted in this thread has seen it, from what I remember his range and whatnot is fine there based off Cubano and I think the poster in Birmingham said, just a lot of silly errors... I bet he is clearly a downgrade from Vizquel and even Nix but at least on par with Teahen. Believe me he is not on par with Teahen.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 07:26 AM) From what I read this morning, he's going to be seeing time at 3B. He is. And you thought Teahan's defense was bad...
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 11:43 PM) How did the pitchers in the old days throw so many pitches and have long careers? Seems like the modern starting pitcher is very brittle. My theory is guys made a heck of a lot less money and didnt have the long term contracts so they knew that they had to pitch or get lost. The owners controlled so much before free agency so guys had to tough it out. Plus the DL rules were a lot less flexible back then.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 11:03 AM) I disagree. Obviously he got off to that red hot start, but he is a talented hitter. He's not some flash in the pan. He's going to be an .820 OPS player in this league for a long time, IMO. He's going to draw a lot of walks and probably settle into a .460-.470 slugging percentage, which is nothing to scoff at for a 2b. In our park he'd probably even be better. I agree he is a talented hitter and would do pretty well here. But I don't want to me Beckham back to 3b. I think any value he has is as a 2b.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 09:24 AM) That would be 1B, not 2B. 2B is just as valuable as 3B from a defensive point of view. 2b is more difficult to play than 3b. Leave Gordo there and let him turn into a top 5 2b. Well thats if he figures out this hitting thing.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 08:11 PM) According to Jon Miller, the White Sox threw 8 consecutive complete games in the playoffs in 2005. Lol Oh, and Joe Morgan made the astute point that "starting pitchers are the key to starting games". I think he actually said. "I have always felt that starting pitchers are the most important part of a pitching staff" Man hes brilliant
  8. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 08:01 PM) It's awesome watching Rios field. I also still love Mark Buehrle. Me too. So lets stop talking about trading him
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) 6 runs in this park right now is like a 3-4 run game anywhere else. Do you not remember the game we blew there last season? They scored 4 runs in a heartbeat off of Linebrink. you just upset me again
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:25 PM) Erick Threets has thrown 6 scoreless innings since returning from the DL, at Charlotte. If the Sox win a few more and there is any blood in the water, he'll be up. why should it matter if they win more? we know williams stinks so lets see what else we got
  11. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) He should if he wants to do what's best for this team. I hope this doesn't fool anyone. people get fooled when we win one game so yeah i am sure it will
  12. QUOTE (aprec32 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 03:59 PM) I hope not because my new jersey will really be a waste. I am concerned it is a lot more. There have been a lot of guys who had great rookie seasons then disappeared. The way he looks, it appears a lot more than just a slump.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) Haha, out of all the arguments about Peavy, we haven't even discussed his playoff reputation yet. i was hoping to save that for october but not this year
  14. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 03:49 PM) Great outing by Peavy. of course its a NL team and its not the playoffs
  15. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 02:10 PM) Nope the fact that Wells was starting made it an issue. If that is true, thats pretty darn stupid
  16. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) AJ with a basehit!! We are hitting ropes!! Wells is throwing batting practice!!! GO SOX!! gordo doesnt like BP
  17. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 01:49 PM) With the wind blowing out...any question if Andruw's uppercut swing will be in full force? he would have an uppercut swing if they were playing in the grand canyon
  18. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 01:21 PM) They're gonna wait for BlackHawks to come throw out the first pitch. gamecast says because of rain but its not raining
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) Why is it that I see nothing to get upset about in that quote? I don't see anything wrong with what he said either
  20. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 02:05 PM) This I agree with. I hope that MB can turn it around, but I don't know if he'll ever be a dominant pitcher in the AL Central again. I don't know if Peavy will ever be a good pitcher in the AL central. I would much rather have Mark than Peavy.
  21. what kind of odds could i have gotten on vizquel and lilly have the same # of hrs as beckham!!
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 09:25 PM) His numbers took a dump when he started having back spasms. I haven't heard it said again, but he hasn't been playing, and when he has, the numbers have been awful. He is just not a very good hitter anymore so he has regressed to the mean as some like to say on this board. That being said he has earned his salary this year
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) I hope you're right, and I'm wrong...we're screwed if he doesn't improve. With that said, the time for excuses with him has to be over. I sure hope I am wrong too because I am not convinced he will go back to what he was. I don't think 3 starts last season is enough to convince me that he is still a stud. Plenty of bad pitchers go through good stretches. I don't think those games are any more telling than the bad ones hes having this year.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 01:54 PM) Kotsay is 0/6 this season with the Bases Loaded. one game he did it last week when i was in vegas and was stupid enough to be $250 on the sox. so i hate him forever now.
  25. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 01:28 PM) Because smart baseball people don't write a 28 year old former Cy Young winner off because he's had a handful of bad starts. True but smart baseball people also have to have the foresight to recognize whether it really is a few bad starts or a bad pitcher. That's the tough part and something we won't really know for a while still.
