    The Bars Thread

QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 10:52 AM) Or State (depending on what he means by across the street), although I have never been in there and do not know if it a "collegey" place. I despise college bars My buddy owns State. Its huge with 100 Tvs. Good sports bar but it gets really crowded on the weekends and the music is way too loud. Not bad for a weeknight to watch a game but weekends I would stay away. A lot of nice talent though. I went to a bar on south side called Simone's after a sox game. It was pretty cool. But this question is way too broad to really give a good response.
  2. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) It was 435 ft, and good for out 3rd furthest of the Season. Quentin owns the 2nd longest, and Kotsay somehow has the furthest. Carlos HR on saturday was farther than Kotsays. At least thats what the board said after the HR. Did they change it on Sunday?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 10:28 AM) I've grown very fond of LilliBomb lately, he seems like a completely different player. He's not swinging for the fences all the time, he's going the other way, he just looks like a different hitter, granted it's like 20 ABs... he looks like steve buscemi to me and that dude is scary
  4. Has anyone heard a stat about the farthest back a team has been but still in first place at the break? I gotta think 9.5 is pretty close to the record?
  5. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 04:30 PM) No Perez: Ken_Rosenthal Smoak, RHP Bevan, RHP Luecke, IF Lawson heading to #Mariners. #Rangers #MLB half a minute ago via txt only smoak is a top prospect

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) The thing is, he is best friends with Jake, or they are good friends anyways...and he still wouldn't consider it...must really not care for us. did you just contradict yourself?
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 02:48 PM) Retherford is a man without a position, he's a sub-par defender everywhere on the field, and probably a utility man if he makes the majors. There are also some makeup questions about him, and his attitude. Torres is just not nearly the prospect McAllister is, without even getting into the age discussion. Torres is a nice guy to have in the system, but nothing terribly special. Best case he's a back of the rotation starter for a weak team, more likely he's a long or middle reliever. I just saw K's post, and yeah, Flowers is not only much older and slower to develop, but also I believe Montero is considered a defensive wizard, and I don't think Flowers is anything like that. Montero is considered a poor defender and will likely move off C. CJ is not a prospect at all
  8. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) Also for the sake of argument this is what ZIPS has them both doing the rest of the way: Berkman: .275/.386/.505/.891, .390 wOBA, 12 HR LaRoche: .276/.354/.504/.858, .373 wOBA, 12 HR I am perfectly happy with either one.
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 10:52 AM) No doubt, but that also can happen to any player too. Thats why I agree that they may be the better team, but anything can happen in a playoff series. Never mind, Keith Law said that we have no chance so we might as well just stop trying. With Peavy likely out for the season, do the White Sox make a run at Cliff Lee? If not, do you see the Sox as viable contenders in the AL Central after losing their ace (at least their ace for the past month)? Klaw (1:27 PM) Even if they included Beckham, I'm not sure they could pull that off. And I didn't see them as viable contenders with Peavy, so it seems less likely now.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 10:05 AM) Yup. Yeah, it's good that he's apparently not going to the Twins. But this pretty much eliminates any chance of us doing a thing even if we get to the playoffs (we'd play the Yankees in the ALDS, as the WC will come from the east and the Rangers are likely to finish with a better record than us). The fact that we are even discussing us being in the playoffs is pretty amazing. Lots of things can happen before then so this talk is really premature.
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) Indeed. Which is why I'm surprised people are happy he's going there. I only wanted to see him go to the NL. I am not happy about it but its better than the Twins.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 09:38 AM) Fixed. we are only 2.5 behind boston who is all banged up and 5 behind tampa. its a long shot but possible
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 08:44 AM) Not done yet. BUt the price tag looks to be Jesus Montero. Wow I would have expected the price to be higher. I have a friend who is a big yankee fan and he keeps telling me how hard it is to be a yankee fan because they have such high expectations. I always want to punch him.
  14. Crazy as it sounds, it is not out of the realm of possibility that the wild card comes from our division.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 07:32 PM) Peavy bobblehead? Seriously. nice one my favorite was the beer vendor bobblehead
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) Annnnnd you win. that depends on what you get me
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 05:36 PM) I'll be too tired to type after 6 miles and ARX tonight anyway. Now you'd have to go: Danks Floyd Buehrle Garcia IMO. Floyd has been nasty of late as well. Floyd has been great. Why does he do this every year? I think that would be my order too. I will be too tired tonight after I have to go do my wedding registry.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0oG77...p&fr=my-myy 5th article down. Peavy would have always started game 1 since as Coop and Ozzie have said, he's the Ace of the staff. they may say that in public hes the ace but i can tell you i had a conversation last week with someone and Danks was the guy starting game 1 obviously that could have changed if jake had kept pitching great but if the game were last week it was danks i fight enough for a living, i want to be a sox lover!
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) No, I would have said the same thing prior to Tuesday night. I would have too. But heck lets all move on and be happy we are kicking everyone's A$$ (except the Royals).
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) Funny how a few bad starts can all of a sudden make a guy not worth a contract, and also NOT an Ace. Last season he started 3 games and was as dominant as possible shutting out Detroit twice. April 7.85 ERA 1.81 WHIP in 5 starts May 5.09 ERA 1.11 WHIP. in 6 starts June 1.75 ERA 0.92 WHIP in 5 starts Notice a trend? After a mechanical flaw was corrected, he has been very good. Another month like June and his ERA is in the 3's. Funny how that works doesnt it? All signed pointed to continued performance until his damn muscle detached from his bone, he was throwing the ball extremely well when he went down. What mechanical flaw was this? Please enlighten us. Yes he has been very good. Yes he was throwing the ball very well. He also had some awful games. Everyone goes through streaks. Funny how a guy who has been here all of 20 starts is automatically declared the ace without having to back it up. By the way as of last weekend, Danks was the team's choice to start game 1 of the playoffs, assuming they could set the rotation how they wanted.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) LOL. Yes, his ERA would have stayed that high, im sure you said that a month ago his ERA would stay where it was before it began its free fall. Keep calling me ignorant while posting total gibberish. Find one person who knows the game of baseball that wouldnt call Peavy an ace. There isnt one person on the Sox that would be on your side. Your opinion is your opinion, but its a terrible one. And an FYI, I will be crying about it in my season tickets seats all weekend where I have been watching games since 2003. I have been one of the most positive fans on this board since I joined, you should really get to know who you are posting about before saying crap that is that far off base. Ok lets go there. I will be cheering in my season tickets seats where I have been watching games since 1991 that I am fairly confident are better seats than yours. You posted the crap that I was in denial when I was trying to be positive about the future. I said multiple times that we can have different opinions and there is nothing wrong with that. Yet you started with the personal attacks. You think its a huge loss, I don't. After 84 games, with our without Peavy our record would be about the same. Whether a guy is the most talented or the best pitcher is a subjective matter and can't be ultimately determined as easily as you so seem to think it is. Forgive me if I didn't recognize that you are the smartest baseball fan in the world and your opinion is spot on all the time.
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) Such a trade would legitimately upset me. I agree. The players we would have to give up for him would make no sense. No way could we get Lee and a stick.
  23. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 03:32 PM) Ya this is all fine and dandy but it was the AL West top teams that they went 6-1 against Texas has got to be pissed Jon Danks is not in their rotation right now. you think they arent happy with party boy brandon?
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) He is. Only Cy Young winner on the staff with the best career numbers. He's the best, he's the Ace. Enjoy your denial. He is pitching? Where? On your Xbox? Last I checked an ace should have an era below 4.50. If thats your definition of ace I would hate to hear who you think is an average pitcher. You can't possibly be ignorant enough to think all numbers are equal in different leagues and different parks. I will enjoy the rest of the season while you cry about the past.
  25. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) This team is officially for real in my eyes. Yeah I am officially buying in now. Never thought I would say that. Please don't tease me!
