QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 04:30 PM) Lost in the Hudson disappointing performance is we're getting dominated by a pitcher who's given up a ton of hits over his last 6 starts. and tomorrow we get felix again so a danks 2 hitter may not be enough

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 04:26 PM) If they can't put together a strong home stand in the coming week, the Sox are in a ton of trouble. 3 man rotation, 2 man bullpen, and struggling offense. the pen is going to be shot after these 2 games

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) Totally agreed except AJ would probably be a whiny bit** about not playing
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) Actually, I think he can be. He could be Brandon Wood bad right now. thats bad. but i think its better to find out than bring AJ back next year
-
as bad as flowers has been at AAA, he cant be worse than AJ. at least he would have some power and walk sometimes

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 03:59 PM) Doc, hearing anything interesting these days? only that beckham isnt going anywhere
-
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) If these last 2 games don't scream "We need to trade for a starting pitcher" then I dunno what does. We don't need another bat, get some arms. the last 90 games scream we need a DH

QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 11:48 AM) Yeah, it would be painful... but Q is pretty much a china doll and headcase... with equal chances of being an offensive stud, injured, or in a self-induced funk. And I'd love our chances against just about anybody in a short series with that rotation. Plus Haren has a reasonable contract that we'd control for the next 3 years. It would be easier to find another hitter than a top-quality pitcher. And it would allow us to dangle Hudson as the carrot to find one. Just a thought. It hasn't been that easy to find a hitter and we would be stuck with Jones AND Kotsay in the lineup. I think we would score about 3 runs in the playoffs in that case.

QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) Agreed...we would need Sale...Torres is garbage I don't think we want Sale in the rotation this soon.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 11:55 AM) I can think of four good reasons not to stand pat: Yankees, Red Sox, Rays, Rangers. We'd have to beat two of these four teams to get to the World Series. And our current offense just doesn't match-up (although we're much closer with CQ/Beckham rising from the abyss). And like many have said, our rotation just isn't that intimidating without Peavy at the top. I really believe, and I hate to admit this, that losing Peavy is ultimately going to cost us in the end. No matter what we do. Peavy at the top of the rotation in the playoffs isnt very intimidating either. We can win this division standing pat but I think we would be a huge dog in the playoffs.

QUOTE (heirdog @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) It's one thing to give Ozzie the type of team he wants and let him manage the team the way he wants. It's another thing to give Ozzie the benefit of the doubt on the make-up of a roster that you as a GM clearly see has a gaping hole. Now we need to plug it by giving up top prospects and perhaps a player that will be extremely needed to make a playoff push (Hudson)? If we're going to have to do the old spinning wheel for a 5th starter and basically lose every 5th day, then there is no point in upgrading the offense. I think thats why many on this board are so reluctant to make such a deal. It was obvious in the spring that we were missing a DH and short a bat. That hole was easier and certainly a lot cheaper (in terms of talent) to acquire back then. Now to fill it we have to give up valuable pieces of the future when it shouldn't have been necessary. It is frustrating to try and make up for mistakes and a very tough decision.

QUOTE (Real @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 01:38 PM) I hope I'm not the only person who thinks Hudson for Dunn is overpaying for a rental it only matters if one person does

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 12:23 PM) His absolute best couldn't be Cabrera? I didn't say he was going to be, I said I think he could. That being said, It think he is likely to end up being a good average, a lot of homers, but not too many walks type of hitter. I dont think so. Cabrera is a top 5 hitter. I think your likely assessment is about right with the only question being the average.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 11:57 AM) I agree with caulfield that Dayan's ceiling is Miguel Cabrera. Especially if he learns pitch selection, which is not out of the question for a 21 year old. Considering Dunn is a FA and will command a large contract at age 30 my highest package for Dunn is this: Flowers Morel Torres Short +maybe random throw in. I think you are dreaming if you think his ceiling is Cabrera. Miguel at the age of 20 was already hitting cleanup for Florida and when he was Dayan's age was an all star and 5th in the league in RBI. Dayan is not even close.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) I just think on paper they are better. I should have said that. The loss of Peavy is huge. If he's the Peavy of the last few outings, we had a rotation to boast about. Now two of the five are gutsy Freddy and the unknown Hudson to go with the dependables. Juan and Omar are still old and a fairly weak 1-2 punch. AJ looks like he is going to continue having his off year at the plate. Kotsay/Jones still isn't a very good option. I think our winning formula is great (pitching), but on paper, I think we're apt to have as rotten a September as we did April/May. Hope I'm wrong again. yeah besides having a horrible DH, we also have the worst 1-2 hitters of any AL contender. not a good combo

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) haha the MLBN is probably ecstatic at how the Sox season played out. I don't think there is any better situation for a "reality" show than to have a horrible start, firings/trades looming - followed by a historic run and being the best team in baseball for over a month. thats true except for they didnt seem to take advantage of it. there wasnt much behind the scenes about how the team was horrible at the start. but i did like it and want to watch more!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 09:04 AM) Game 4 in this series. You shouldn't lose a game up 3 in the ninth with a $7 million closer. Losing that is a killer. That is a "Should have won" game. Game 3 I'll count as a "could have won" game, game 2 as well. Game 3 would have taken either a clutch hit or two or a better approach against Pavano's outside breaking pitch by a couple hitters. Game 2 would have taken some blasted defense. yeah i will agree with that. 2 games we should have won but not 3. unfortunately closing is part of the game and the twins closed out their two wins when they were ahead a lot better than we did. also we should have scored more runs yesterday which would have made jenks irrelevant.
-
QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 10:07 PM) Without Morneau? No way. Way too many people are gonna let this series get into their head. We are better than the Twins, we should have taken 3 out of 4. It never makes any sense when people say we "should have" won. Could have won? Yes but not should have. What 3 games exactly should we have won?

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 09:16 PM) They went a lot deeper into the season than I thought. I had presummed it was just going to cover ST. yeah they are already at the draft how many episodes are there?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 08:46 PM) Twins with 4 series now against really mediocre teams. If they're going to make a run, it will be the next two weeks. is there any doubt they will make a run? they are the best team in the division IMO

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 11:27 AM) Jeez he seems against this show for no reason. yeah he does, he hadnt even watched the show yet when he wrote this. stupid.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) It happens to the best, these blown saves. Broxton just blew a 4 run lead as well. Hopefully Jenks gets some adrenaline by pitching in his home state the next few days. One more blow-up though, and you have to replace him. except he wont be replace. i dont really blame santos, he didnt have much of a chance. pierre is more to blame, if you cant bunt or hit the ball out of the infield you are pretty worthless. i am tired of his weak swings -
QUOTE (Real @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 11:16 PM) We gained a half game today on the Tigers Hilarious but we lost one to minnesota who i still believe is the strongest competition and will win the division as the teams stand right now

couldnt happen to a nicer pitcher

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) It seems that in stints of 2 innings or more, Pena's done well. In shorter stints, he's been awful. well hes not going to pitch longer if he sucks that night
