QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 02:55 PM) Love how Hawk and Stoney are still talking up Freddy when our best starter by FAR is on the mound right now. yes he is and he was 3 days ago too

do you trust danks or jenks more?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 01:54 PM) No, the best and most talented pitcher on our staff is worth that much. The leadership is a bonus. He might be if he were the best and most talented pitcher and if he were actually pitching. Since he's not lets focus on who is here and the nice job Mr. Danks is doing today.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) Peavy was awful for the first couple of months, but returned to being dominant in June. You can't just look at his entire season record and say "no big loss". Most of the pitchers on this staff are garbage if you're going by that metric, and we should be glad Quentin's been out of the lineup. And a lot of pitchers have had dominant runs too. Overall he has been great and he has been terrible. I never said I was glad he was gone and I never said it wasn't a loss. Its just a loss that the team can overcome because they have a suitable replacement. Losing a bat would be far more devistating.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:24 AM) Not really sure what fooled by the big name means, if by fooled by the most talented arm in our rotation is what you mean, then it makes more sense. And take a look at quotes from the entire season, players, coaching staff, FO, about how influential Peavy is to the mental state of the team. Its a huge loss, and if downplaying it makes you feel better, than have at it. Not downplaying it at all. I have the opinion that I don't think its a big loss. You have a different opinion. That doesn't make you right and mean I am trying to downplay something. Had Hudson been in the rotation the first half instead of Peavy I don't think our record would be any different. If you think an emotional leader is worth 16M than so be it.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 02:51 AM) Peavy has made 16 starts (I'll exclude this 17th one from Tues). The White Sox are 8-8 in those starts. I'd say Peavy is even a bit lucky that the Sox are playing .500 ball in his starts as he's put up a 4.63 ERA. You can decide to look at this a million different ways. The Sox have won 37 games in which Peavy did not play, and all of 8 games in which he did. In two of those games, the Sox won when he gave up 7 and 5 runs. Peavy has the worst ERA of our 5 starters. He trails the team with 8 quality starts. All of these things point to the Sox should be able to continue to contend just fine with Hudson (it wouldn't shock me if he bested Peavy's 4.63 ERA). No doubt, a dominant Peavy (as he's been in some, but not most of his starts) is a huge boost, but I'm definitely in the camp that says pick up a good lefty bat and let Hudson pitch. The team is rolling right now. 23 of 29. Good post. I am right with you. It's not a big loss. If anything we would miss him in the playoffs when you need the dominant start. Though he has never shown that in the playoffs. Pick up a good bat and we can win this thing. That and don't make 5 errors

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) Yeah I am not sure why people are doubting Hudson. He has been simply awesome minus his April. Plays in horrible hitters park and pitched solid for the Sox last year. What's not to like? I really don't know what we are going to get from Hudson but it's time to find out. No reason to deal for one of those retread pitchers named. As for dunn hitting 3 hrs, that should diminsh his value. If he has 40 hrs in him than that's 3 less he is going to hit. At least that's how I would try and sell it!

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 08:36 PM) Dont be foolish, Peavy was a big part of the team turning it around. It coincides with when he turned it around. He's the most talented pitcher on this staff and an emotional leader. Its a huge loss. I guess I am not fooled by the big name. I don't see any evidence of him being an emotional leader. He may fire himself up but that's it

I am probably in the minority here but I don't think this loss is a big deal. The guy hasn't pitched consistently all season. Sure he has been hot lately but he gave us a lot of bad starts too. I think he is fairly replaceable and we have the weapons to do it. Losing him and gaining a bat is still a big win.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) Yeah I also like the lineup. Which means we'll probably lose 2-1 tonight. if we had a different stick in that 6 hole, I really would like this lineup and think we could win the division

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 11:30 AM) Anyone else worried that Jake will consistently be battling injuries? he has his whole career

man weaver is throwing some awful pitches this inning

QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:32 PM) A strain is infinitely better than some of the doom and gloom s*** that was thrown around in this thread mere minutes ago. He'll be back soon. Our training staff is fantastic. yeah better for sure, people feared the worst, its normal
-
QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) SO happy to hear that Jake is ok. I hope he is crisp when he does come back. I look forward to seeing Hudson pitch, although this still does screw up possible trades. i wouldn't go so far as saying he is ok but at least its not an elbow. i think a strain in the back or side could be painful for a while. but what do i know, cause the doc is no doctor what the heck was weaver crying about after the inning?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:22 PM) Did you get some horchata? dude no alcohol in a horchata i had michealda, carne asada and crab legs

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) I was just going to post the same s***. i was on my way to the game and then i got drenched and there was massive puddles on the street that i could barely get my car through. so i decided to go eat some mexican food and then go home glad i did

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:14 PM) Wow, Andruw had a pitch right there to drill on that Weaver pitch. he cant hit any cookie. meanwhile, does this not seem like the longest game of the year?
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:33 PM) My guess is that with Jake being on the payroll for $17 million, Floyd at $7 million, and Danks probably around $10 million (assuming he would still be here), you're other two arms are going to be low-cost arms. Whether one of those ends up being Sale or not, I don't know. i sure hope danks is still here and if mark is then a low cost arm with be a necessity
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) I'm not counting on anything. But if you're going to start looking at payroll expenditures for 2 years from now, you've got to assume that is where you'd plug Sale in there. Wouldn't you agree that the Org would hope to have Sale in their starting rotation in 2012? absolutely. I am just saying there have been far better pitching prospects than him that have not made it. You just never know with pitchers, a lot can go wrong.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 09:57 PM) Considering that we might have a rotation of Peavy/Floyd/Hudson/Sale/? in 2012, that might not make things any more difficult than they are currently, in terms of payroll. Currently, we're paying our 5-man rotation and Paul Konerko a total of $48.25M. A rotation of Peavy/Floyd/Hudson/Sale/ plus Fielder would probably put us around $47M. That gives you a few million to play with to add a veteran SP or another young arm to fill out the rotation. I think its way too early to be counting on Sale being in the rotation in 2012, let alone ever. Let's wait until he has more than one minor league game under his belt.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 05:16 PM) He was hitting in the .260s on like May 4th. No one was going to trade for Andruw Jones on May 4th, especially, as you pointed out so well, that he did this exact same thing last year. correct he hasnt hit for 4 yrs
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) Andruw Jones is 18 of his last 117. He has no right to be on a major league roster. because he is in great shape!! for some reason people think that means you can hit all of a sudden
-
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 01:32 PM) I like Corey Hart, and him in right and Q at DH would be an improvement. But I think Hart is hitting way over his head and will come back to earth, plus he's a righty. And the Brewers said they don't plan to be sellers. If we got a right-handed bat, I'd prefer Willingham. I think he is way over his head too. Plus hes a bad defender.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 12:05 AM) words of wisdom doc...don't even bother trying to rationalize with your fiance the two weeks leading up to the wedding. I tried to rationalize not going to Wisconsin to visit her mother on 4th of July weekend and that didn't work so well...
