QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 18, 2010 -> 01:13 PM) Maybe we'll see a polar bear run across the field later with the grounds crew chasing it. and then Matt Black Smoke Thorton will come in and kill all the Tigers

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 18, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) Alright, White Sox!!!! The great thing about Porcello? He's doesn't strike anybody out. which is weird because he throws pretty hard. verlander didnt strike out a lot his rookie year either so maybe its an organizational thing to want their rookies to keep down pitch count

QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2010 -> 01:00 PM) Mike Tyson! yes!! it is one of the greatest quotes and he has a lot of them

QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2010 -> 12:53 PM) PK and Jones both have one homer each in the last 10 games or so. Not going to win many games with them fading off from their hot start. I really feel like now is the time to trade Konerko if you want to maximize his value. The league is going to catch up to him power wise by the early June likely. I hope I am wrong but I think Jones is going to fade into Bolivian. I see him ending up around .240 with 20+ homers.

QUOTE (pktmotion @ May 18, 2010 -> 12:50 PM) You know the trade wasn't that bad, considering Teahen is hitting below his career norms and the fact we didn't give up much to get him. But the glaring mistake is restructuring his deal for 3/$14 Mil rather than going year for year. It basically handcuffs you if he struggles, which is the case know. You can't trade him, you can bench him and make him an overpaid utility man; and most importantly the money that was used for the deal could've gone to get Damon or someone else the Sox were looking at but didn't have the financial flexibility to do so. I really didnt understand the urgency to sign him to an extension. The trade was fine but we should have waited to see how he panned out. Its not like he was going to go nuts and warrant big time money.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2010 -> 12:40 PM) Chris Shelton says hi. i thought they gave up on him too fast. he only played 2 real seasons and had over .800 ops both years. then the next year he didnt even get an at bat!
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2010 -> 12:38 PM) Boesch has 14 extra base hits in 72 ABs. Is he even a prospect? he was their 25th ranked prospect to start the year. needless to say BA was wrong on that one!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2010 -> 12:28 PM) Quentin got a hit! Wimpy liked the swing a lot. i like when he goes to right

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 18, 2010 -> 12:25 PM) I'd rather our offense score however many runs it was necessary to win the game on that given day, whether it's 1 or 20. agreed i really dont think the hitting coach matters all that much

QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) Biggest difference between 2005 and this team is that I feel like this team has lost more games when tied or leading heading into the 7th inning than the 2005 team did all season. Having one of the greatest bullpens ever makes any manager look good and hides the offensive struggles a team might have. I think the 2005 team was better at every position besides CF than this team. DH and 1b are probably a wash.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 17, 2010 -> 09:12 PM) He's making 500K this year. He won't yield much in comparison to lots of players, but if you were to trade him right now, he'd get you a lot more than A.J. would. that is probably true
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 17, 2010 -> 09:10 PM) Jones has the most trade value. A.J. won't bring much of anything. If we can get a Max Ramirez out of him, I'd be very happy. interesting, i think jones has very little trade value. i expect that he will end up hitting about .240 on the year

QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 17, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) Ron Washington actually did it 6 times last year, this is Omar's 4th go in the 2 hole this year. and he was all coked up at the time

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 17, 2010 -> 02:48 PM) It's not surprising, because guys like Kotsay, Vizquel, Pierre, Beckham, AJ and Teahen haven't been hitting the ball with much, if any, authority. When Quentin doesn't get an XB hit, he pops it up somewhere or pulls a pretty weak grounder somewhere on the left side of the diamond the majority of the time. Alexei has struck out less and hit a TON of foul homers because he's just a bit too quick at the plate....but he has also got himself out a ton on pretty weakly hit groundballs as well. Konerko and Rios have been the hitters who have squared up the most balls, and Konerko's gone into one of his patented "mini-slides" now as well. this is true and the sox are one of the lowest teams in BABIP for 3 years running now. i dont think this is a coincedence. i am not a big believer in this stat that everything evens out.

QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 17, 2010 -> 11:27 AM) Heaven forbid anyone actually looks at the glass as half-full...People are not stupid. They watch the the same games you do. This team sucks right now. Theres no denying it...but it's not IMPOSSIBLE that this team turns it around. It's not likely...but not impossible. We act as though this team just is absolutely incapable of succeeding. Of course it doesn't look like the line-up is well constructed right now. We have four guys batting at or around .200. These guys aren't great hitters, BUT by the end of the year I would put good money that Kotsays .174 will be .245, Alexei's .240 will be .260, CQ's .180 will be at least .230, AJ's .200 will be .250, Teahens .218 will be .260, Pierre's .247 will be .280, Becks .188 will be .225, and those are AT WORST...The offense will improve. As will the pitching. We will win more games...whether it's enough or not...It probably won't be. But the guy who started this thread is right. The team won't hit .227 all year. There is hope for a turnaround. The odds decrease with every game, but throwing in the towel 37 games into the season is just stupid. There are 125 freakin' games left. throwing in the towel is stupid. but so is sticking with something that is not working. because averages of .245, .260, .230, .250, .260, .280 and .225 are not going to come close to being good enough to win this division.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2010 -> 09:15 PM) IIRC, the Sox have scored in 7 of their last 46 innings. That is truly pathetic. so is one extra base hit in their last 35 innings

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 17, 2010 -> 02:21 AM) The 2005 Houston Astros started 15-30 and went on to win the NL Pennant. The season is not over yet. We know we have a pitching staff that could be amongst the best in the league. The hitting will come around eventually, it simply HAS to. We won't bat .227 as a team for the entire season. Be patient... Respectfully I have to disagree. I think this be patient type of mentality is waiting way too long. We are almot one fourth of the way through the season and there are zero signs of contention. I might agree if we had a good offensive team but we don't. It's true they won't hit .227 all season but I thought thus was a bad offense in the offseason and its actually even worse than I thought.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) Absolutely. And Stoney is about as good of a match as you can find for Hawk as well. (Of course, he's the best color man in baseball, so he's probably a good match for most people, but the ability to understand Hawk's obscure 1960's Red Sox lineup references helps a lot). I agree. I do miss Rooney but I think both broadcast teams are a pretty good match. I don't listen to the Cubs so I can't express an opinion on how they are but when I read reviews in the paper they tend to give higher ratings to the Cubs teams. I find that hard to beleive.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 13, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) Why is this coming up again? because we have the day off?? i sat up in the booth with hawk and dj back when they were partners. dj was very cool and talked to me a lot between innings. hawk pretty much ignored me. another time we were at a team party in the offseason and i introduced my girlfriend to hawk. he proceeded to slobber all over her face. she is still traumatized by it.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 13, 2010 -> 09:55 AM) As I said when you did this in the Cubs thread too, you need to look around at the current Sox team. You have one serious defensive liability (Teahen), one below average defender (TCQ), and then the rest of the squad I'd say is average or better. And if Jones is on the corner instead of TCQ, it gets better. Further, this team has rarely churned out 1B/DH types - how many have come out of the minors? That's just nonsensical. The only one I can think of was Brandon Allen and he was dealt off for good value. It doesn't look like he will ever be a starter. Oh and Chris Carter too. The jury is still out on that one depending on if Q finds his stroke.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2010 -> 09:30 AM) Really? He only played 2 games at 1b last season. Was he there in the AFL pre-injury? I don't recall the "Viciedo moving" official article happening until after the TeahEn trade. You could be right. I don't recall when exactly the "official" announcement was made. But I was informed last summer that his future was at 1b. So I think it would be more accurate to say signing Teahen was a reaction to moving Dayan as opposed to he was moved due to signing Teahen. He is off to a good start at AAA. Though that bb/k ratio is pretty bad.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 13, 2010 -> 07:33 AM) That is what I have always thought and I was ok with the fact that we are moving him because we don't think he can play 3B. But the article specifically mentioned how having Teahen changed where we were going to play him. And that would be a real stupid reason. That article makes no sense than because he was moved off 3b last season before we even acquired Teahan.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 13, 2010 -> 08:19 AM) Next you're going to tell us she is an amazing cook and loves strip clubs... haha. i do most of the cooking and shes never been to a strip club, maybe this next vegas trip...

QUOTE (knightni @ May 12, 2010 -> 08:36 PM) For me...Colon, Contreras, Marte, D. Wells, Timo, Wise, Mackowiak, Kotsay, and 1/2 that 2007 roster are up there higher than Valentin. Well most of those guys were role players so I didn't really consider them. Jose was a big contributor to the WS so even if his last season was bad I could never dislike him. Rob I actually know fairly well. Drank with him a bunch of times and he played softball with us a few games. Hes a good guy. He has some funny stories about Jerry Manuel.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2010 -> 04:09 PM) I remember once going to a Royals/White Sox game at Kauffman, fairly sweltering heat but not quite oppressive....I was trying to buy her Lemon Chills and just about anything to keep her pacified, and I had to argue vociferously just to get her to stay for 2 innings. (This is when both teams were actually good, maybe mid season 2003). That was the end of her attending White Sox (or Royals) games with me. I must have gone to 10-15 games per season by myself, I couldn't bear arguing about "when are we going home?" everytime. how could you not be pacified by a lemon chill? lucky for me my fiance loves going to games and wants to get there early and keep score every game. she even tells me when i get pissed off that we have to stick by the sox even when they are bad.
