  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 09:18 AM) I miss the "Lean back" he led off each pitch with that we saw at the end of 2005. nothing better than the lean back grand slam
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 08:39 PM) You want much more than a "semi-safe bet for 2 years of an .800 OPS" out of a 1Bman. You want .825 to be a bad season for your 1Bman, and you want to be able to expect .900+ rather easily. At the end of the year, as much as Konerko has done for the organization, you give him a handshake, thank him for all he's done, and let him go find another job elsewhere. Emotional attachments in business lose money/games and cost people in upper management jobs, and offering Konerko a 3 year deal at this point in time is nothing more than something done based on emotional attachment, because it's not fiscally responsible to offer Konerko a 3 year deal. I have to agree. He got a nice deal this last time around. PK has done a lot of great things for the team and as a fan I love the guy but 3 more years for below average production from a 1b doesn't make much sense.
  3. QUOTE (Getupstretch39 @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) Has he given any interviews recently? I haven't heard his comments on this horrendous start and was wondering if anyone else has? According to the sun times it was: Long season. Good team. Relax.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 12:46 PM) Aside from a few more "Boo"s in the ballpark, nothing. The fan sites are already freaking out like crazy, there's still every statistical reason to believe it's just a crappy start that will correct, and any GM or owner who makes a drastic change in late April based on panic over a few slow weeks deserves to wind up with a decade of losing. I agree that a GM should not make drastic changes in April. The difference I see is that the Red Sox actually have a good offensive team that is starting slow. The White Sox have a bad offensive team that is starting slow and any drastic change would be good and something that should have been done before the season started. If you compare the teams its not even close. C - Victor >> AJ 1b - Youk >> PK 2b - Pedroia > Beckham. 3b - Beltre > Teahan ss - Scutaro = Ramirez, maybe a slight edge to Al. LF - Elsbury >> Pierre CF - Rios > Cameron RF - Quentin = Drew. Both have health issues. Carlos has more upside. DH - Ortiz > Kotsay. Both are terrible. The only positions were we are better are CF and arguably RF. The Red Sox are significantly better at multiple positions. Thus, it would be dumb for them to panic. The White Sox, however, need to make changes to improve. I don't consider that a panic move.
  5. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 11:34 AM) It was pretty obvious by the end of the spring that Ozzie intended to give Kotsay the lion's share of AB's at the DH, which project out to be around 400 AB's, Ozzie even went so far as to say that he wanted to bat Kotsay third going into othe regular season. None of this is a shock. No its not a shock. But it also shouldn't have been a shock this was a bad idea in the spring and its should be pretty obvious that its a horrible idea now.
  6. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 09:55 AM) I won't start a new thread because there's been enough doom and gloom talk, but is anyone else REALLY concerned right now? If this keeps up, and I have a feeling it will, does Ozzie get fired? I'm thoroughly disgusted with the whole DH thing, and seeing Kotsay batting 3rd or 5th almost seemd like Ozzie just being an ass. I am really concerned. Is it overreacting to say that the season is over? Sure. There is a lot of baseball left to be played. BUT if changes are not made soon I don't think its a stretch to believe that the season is slipping away. The current team does not hit enough to be a playoff team and I don't think that is going to change. It's pretty easy to see that we do not have enough good offensive players. If I knew that this is the lineup we are going to play out the season with and Kotsay is going to start 100 games, hitting 3rd, 5th, or 9th, I would sadly say that yes the season is over.
  7. QUOTE (ozzfest @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 08:50 PM) Fact or Fiction: *Beckham hits over 290 on the season Fiction. I will say .279. *Peavy wins 15 games Fiction. No wins so far. 15 is not an easy number to get regardless and our offense is horrible. He will miss a few starts to injury and end up with 12 wins. *Jenks finishes the season as closer Fact. They won't remove him from closer and nobody will trade for him. *Quentin Hits 30 home runs Fact. 31 homers but with a poor average of .256. *Scott Linebrink will be on the roster come august Fact. Nowhere for him to go. * Freddy Garcia will be the 5th starter come July Fiction. We will be out of the race and no reason to keep giving him starts over a young guy. * KW will make a major trade mid-season (A-Gone type of deal) Fiction. * White Sox make the playoffs Fiction. The roster as constructed is not close to a playoff team. We need two above average offensive players to contend and not guys at the end of the career.
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 01:24 AM) I remember the trade clearly, other than I think the Sox were sending over someone else with Crede. Every single time I see Ervin Santana or Chone Figgins I think of this trade. I want to say it was proposed early 2007, but again, not sure. I think the rumor on this trade was Konerko not Crede.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) The White Sox won about 12% of the games last season when they scored less than 4 runs. It shouldn't be a surprise they lose when they score 2 runs. Ozzie might have made a mistake keeping Peavy out there too long, I didn't see the game, but you score 2 runs against the Indians again and you should lose. The scary thing is Andruw Jones is actually hitting pretty well and this team is a bat short. Pierre looks done. He seems like he's lost a couple of steps. There is no margin of error for the pitching staff or the defense. One let down and the game is over. NL offenses don't work in the AL. no it shouldn't be a suprise. and the frustrating thing was this was easily forseeable by 90% of us that the offense was poor and not good enough. I just don't understand the mentality of lets see how this plays out and if we cant hit than we will make a change in may or june. to me thats a passive attitude.
  10. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 05:26 PM) Maybe we're just not as good as we were hoping this year? Last year we were pathetic offensively and haven't upgraded there whatsoever I don't think you can say, although we got faster for sure...doesn't look like it's translating into runs the offense is just not good. we now average 3 runs a game and are 1-4 against a bad team who is 1-5 against the rest of the league. we should be scoring a lot more runs against this below average pitching staff. they don't have one dominant pitcher on the team
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 05:14 PM) Ugh, this is just stupid. It was obvious he was fatigued in the 7th. you called it
  12. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) Are they really staying in the same hotel? Or is he just messing around? its very possible. i know baseball has a contract with Weston and they all stay there except for the yankees.
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 12:29 PM) Freddy's velocity was really bad yesterday, he was only around 87 and never got it up above 90. But if he keeps throwing around 90-92 like he did against the Twins, he should be ok. I don't know what it is, but it appears that our pitchers are losing velocity up there in Toronto. I think freddy will stick around for a while as the #5. One great outing and one horrible outing from him so far is pretty much what you can expect from that spot. The problem is when he has the bad outing and it taxes the bullpen. We don't have a long man in the pen like years past who can go out and throw 4 meaningless innings. All of our relievers are one or two inning guys. As far as trading John Danks. I would hate to do that. Hes our youngest pitcher, still before his prime, and at times a dominant lefty. Not only that but the dude is a great competitor. Pretty good chance he evolves into a top of the rotation guy in the next couple of years.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) Torre and LaRussa and Cox? I have always thought LaRussa was a very overrated manager.
  15. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 12:12 PM) What game was the 1 hitter? Heres the boxscore and play by play. Hit didn't come until the 7th. Fantastic devil rays lineup! http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CH...200108030.shtml
  16. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 12:12 PM) What game was the 1 hitter? Aug 3, 2001 against tampa. I certainly don't remember the game.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) And about half of your posts are posts telling us that you said that. We get it. apparantly you dont because you keep saying he is too young too give up on as a 3b
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 12:10 PM) DV was assigned to Charlotte this year pretty early in training camp, so we didn't see much of him up with the big boys this year. He's started off the season with his stats looking disturbingly like those of last season. 6/24 for a .250 batting average, 2 2b, 0 HR, 1 BB, 8 k's. Don't know if it's noted in this thread yet, but he's a 1b now! Come on kid, flex your power.org. yeah i told you they were making him a 1b 9 months ago! he had a terrible spring but the sox still think he is going to be a plus hitter with big time power...
  19. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) Kotsay hurts the lineup less than Pierre. any lineup that has kotsay in it is bad
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) Wow, that's a bad, bad lineup. Hopefully Morrow walks the world. I think I have decided this season at the park I will go for food/beer/bathroom when we are batting. Its much more fun to watch our pitching than our hitting.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 02:59 PM) Tigers lost and the Twins behind late in the game. Could be a great day for us. i love it when the twins and tigers both lose before i get home from work!
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 12:28 PM) Jeez. Soxtalk can be depressing. Gordon Beckham is hitting .226. Maybe we should demote him? Let's release Jake Peavy while we're at it... worst contract in sports. Be real people, we're 8 games in... this it true but lets also recognize that we need another stick if we are going to win this division.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 04:42 PM) He's not even 30 yet, what makes you think he doesn't have any more upside to rebound to 07-08 form? He can rebound to that form yes. What I meant was that I don't think he has more upside than he has shown in the past, i.e. I dont think he can outperform those years. But yeah I think he could match them.
  24. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) That's laughable. One's a terrible defender and is losing it at the plate a bit and also getting older with a larger commitment. The other's a much better defender with upside at the plate since he's still in the middle of his prime years. Just wondering, what what show was this? I am not so sure I agree with the upside at the plate part. Upside over last year? sure, but not more so than his best years. But I agree there is no comparison. I would say that Soriano has the worst contract in all of baseball. If I were a Cubs fan I would feel sick thinking of that clown playing another 5 years for my team.
  25. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) Can Vizquel play a whole game? He might have to take a nap in the 5th. i love naps
