QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 02:32 PM) I sure as hell hope you're wrong, my man. So do I

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) Who is the odds on favorite to be the Soxtalk whipping boy this year? Linebrink looks like he has a big early lead I am going to predict it will be Rios.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 10:48 AM) At one point in time, Mark Kotsay was an absolute beast on defense and an above average offensive player. So yeah, if Danks can turn into Kotsay, I'd be fine with it. the comparison the scouts make is andy van slyke
-
QUOTE (daa84 @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 06:40 AM) if he can truly go and get it like they say he can, then IMO Danks is a much better prospect than most people realize..... in fact I would say a fair major league comparison could be a young Mark Kotsay...who was a significantly better player than most people realize NOOOOOOOOO i hate mark kotsay!! i say danks twice last week and he was impressive, previously i was not a fan. and the sox think he will hit, they project him to be a 280 hitter, with 15 hrs and 20 sbs. this wasnt public talk trying to bump up his trade value, this was just me talking to the scouts in private conversations. in addition, they are unanimous in his defensive ability and great instincts

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 25, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) Yeah that's just all kinds of stupid. any lineup that starts vizquel or kotsay for any reason other than resting someone is really stupid neither one of these guys can hit

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 25, 2010 -> 01:08 AM) But he hit a ball hard that was caught!! I remember saying after that Twins game that we'd never hear the end of Kotsay's "rocket" to Cuddyer. Kotsay is a fine bench player, but should never be starting more than once or twice a week. i was at that game and remember it clearly. i was thinking to myself people are actually gonna have hope because he guessed right on a fastball off a guy with a broken arm. kotsay is not some 23 yr old with something to prove. we all know what he is, a bench player. there is zero upside to this! he shouldn't be starting for the 1906 hitless wonders, let alone batting third

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 09:56 PM) It might be possible that there will be a player I hate more than Darin Erstad. this is my feeling exactly, i said i hated him as much as erstad last year when we got him. batting him third is really insane.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 08:53 AM) Viciedo is basically a 1B at this point. Marrero can also play there, though he's spent most of his time recently in the outfield. he is a 1b, and he had a terrible spring. was very unimpressive

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 08:12 AM) I would give up Danks II over Morel any day of the week. Then again I don't see the big value in Danks as it is. Low power, high strike outs, will be 24 in August. I saw both play a lot last week. Danks impressed me and I was not a fan before. Big kid, very athletic, good speed and a decent swing. How much he will hit I don't know, but I can tell you the sox project him to be a .280 hitter with 15 hrs and 20 sbs and play gold glove defense. Ozzie said he has the best instincts of any outfielder he has seen. Morel looked pretty good on defense when I saw him, made two nice plays on tough hops. He didn't have any good at bats however.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 01:55 AM) Check out the A's projected opening day lineup. A's: 1. LF Rajai Davis 2. CF Coco Crisp 3. C Kurt Suzuki 4. DH Jack Cust 5. 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff 6. RF Ryan Sweeney 7. 2B Mark Ellis 8. 1B Daric Barton 9. SS Cliff Pennington I might take that Cubs lineup that won the World Series in "Rookie of the year" over this steaming pile of rooster s***. Our offense has a ton of question marks, but it could be MUCH worse, A's worse. that is bad but we shouldn't be comparing ourselves to the a's. They aren't winning anything and I think we all have higher standards than last place

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) Rios >> Jones defensively. It's not 2003. Hey I am suprised too. I am just reporting what I heard.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) If Jones plays anywhere even close to 75% of his former self, there won't be much of a platoon at DH, except maybe days when Jones plays in the OF for someone. I guess Jones is going to play a lot of CF with Rios in RF and Pierre/Carlos as LF/DH. The sox believe that Jones is the best defensive CF on the team.

Andruw Jones spring training mean anything?

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 07:31 PM) that's awesome. i'm hoping for big things but it's certainly a wait-and-see situation. after spending last week in arizona, i can tell you that the sox brass is very high on Andruw. I myself am skeptical but the Sox expect him to have a very good year and think that his spring is definitely for real and a sign of things to come this season. -
Probably nothing too suprising here but this is what I am told the lineup would look like if opening day were today: Pierre - LF Beckham - 2b Quentin - RF Konerko - 1b Rios - CF AJ - C Jones - DH Teahan - 3b Ramirez - SS

QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 08:44 AM) Leesman looked overpowering at times last night vs KC, but then his location would get away from him. he didnt impress me last night at all. i sat right behind the plate with the scouts and his location was terrible and he looked lost. hopefully it was just an off night

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 12:42 AM) If he was a dude in the draft coming out of high school, would he have made the league minimum as a first rounder? i was at the game tonight and it was pretty darn ugly. the bullpen was really wild and couldnt locate. the defense was horrible and both CJ and lillebridge booted balls. none of the kids had good swings. at least the weather was nice and the beer was cold. i will be here all week if anyone has any questions about guys -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) I understand resting players, but by no means should this scenario end with Vizquel at designated hitter. Agreed. I also don't understand hitting Ramirez 8th. He's a better hitter than Teahan and Rios. I can understand the desire for a lefty to hit 5th to break things up but I was hoping that would be the DH. I can't see any other team using a DH as the 9th hitter. Perhaps we should move to the National League!
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:47 PM) Agreed, the Padres want him, and the White Sox don't wanna give him up. That's why this trade hasn't been made. this is exactly correct

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) What if the Sox offered Beckham for AGon straight up (or including lesser prospect on both sides)? that would just solve on problem and create another. Besides with Beckham under control for 5 years at a cheap price, that would never happen.
-
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) They are moving CJ Retherford to catcher. Josh Phegley is also a nice catching prospect who the Sox hope developes niceley this season. Perhaps they can bring AJ back to a cheaper deal beyond this current contract as well. . Remember Gonzalez doesn't become a free agent until after the 2011 season. So giving AJ another 2 year contract at a cheaper rate wouldn't be a bad idea since Gonzalez wont get the BIG cash until 2012. Neither of those guys are going to be starting catchers.
-
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) Konerko and AJ are both off the books next year. That is $18 million right there that can be used towards an AGon extension. Dont get confused like so many people did last year thinking that with all the money coming off the books we would have lots to spend. Arbitration and other things will increase the salaries just as much.

QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) I think what probably happened was the Sox made their best offer, Boras went to the Tigers and got an offer, called the Sox and tried to leverage it into a higher counter-offer. Boom... The Sox being sick of Boras' s*** said "Sorry, we don't play that way. goodbye." Over. The sox increased their offer believing it would seal the deal. Instead of dealing in good faith, Boras saw it as an opportunity and came back to try and get even more. Kenny said F you.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 15, 2010 -> 01:30 AM) Let them underrate us. It should be what we want coming off what we put up last season. FWIW, the key guy for me for our rotation will be Buehrle. We know that Peavy will probably put up some damn good numbers, and we know pretty much what to expect with Gavin and Danksy, even though they may hit a rough spot every now and again. We need MB to be the pitcher he was before the perfect game last season, and not what he put up afterwards. I disagree. I think Mark is the guy we know what we will get the most. Are you basing this on a few bad starts in half a season? I think Peavy is the biggest wildcard. He gets hurt a lot and as we all know he is making a huge move in parks. Now I think he will be very good but it certainly isnt a known commodity to me. The other two are still too young to say they are more of a sure thing than Mark.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 14, 2010 -> 11:57 PM) I put the pessimistic I'm concerned. It really isn't that I don't think this roster could win this division, because it certainly wouldn't be shocking, nay it would would be a disappointment if we didn't. What makes me evermore angry is it seems like Kenny is taking huge not-needed gambles on offense when he has the first or second best pre-season rotation of his tenure (depending on how you want to use foresight with 06). I don't see any reason to experiment with bad offensive players on offense when it appears 5-6 mill would have done so much to secure this offense. We could have never been explosive, but we could have at least been "good enough" and now it's like Balta said. We need a run of things, I guess like 05. Lexi needs to be his rookie of the year lexi. Ditto CQ his MVP CQ. Rios ideally needs to be 07 Rios. Beckham doesn't have much room for regression. Pierre please god re-create last years numbers over a full season. And it would do a whole hell of a lot to have a consistent Paulie and a 35 HR paulie, though that's just a fool's projection at this point. i pretty much agree with this. It makes me angry that we could be wasting a great pitching staff with a poor offense and if we have to live through a whole season of the "rotating DH" that will make me more angry. If we were experiementing with young unproven players that would be better than proven below average hitters who aren't going to magically find it at their age.

QUOTE (shakes @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) Matsui- Scoscia has said if he is healthy he would like him to play in the outfield 2-3 times a week. A's- Cust isn't guaranteed any at bats, and Fox may be DH'ing along with several others Guerrero- I'll give you that one Indians- Stuck with his horrible contract, they would love to get rid of Royals- Ditto on contract, will also play outfield and they would trade him to anyone willing Tigers- Guillen will absolutely be part of a rotation Kubel- Will be a part of a rotation with Young and Thome Mariners- Definitely a rotation Orioles- Scott will probably be primary DH, but will play 1b and OF. May end up starting 1b. Rotating with Wiggington and others Rays- have been trying to dump Burrell all offseason, only DH'ing if they can't move him or sign someone else Red Sox- Stuck with contract Yankees- Full time for Nick Johnson There are a lot, if not most going to rotations, or at least trying to move on from their lumbering sluggers. Sure if you want to say that a team who does not have the same guy DH 160 games a year than all of them will be "rotating". But I don't think any of them have a specific plan to be rotating DHs.
