QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) Rios should play CF he seems to want to play there and is a GG'er Thats insane, don't you have to actually win the award to be a gold glover? Hes not that good

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 02:45 PM) if you go pods/beckham (from 2009 numbers) theres a 58% chance that someone will start the game, on base for Quentin. and with Pods, theres a 30% chance he'll be on 2B or 3B after he either gets a hit or walk. (1B w/SB, 2B, 3B) And theres a 47% chance that Quentin is hurt and not playing.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) That's a real bad defense especially with the giant hole on the right side of the infield. You are never going to see Beckham at ss and Ramirez at 2b.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) Mark Teahen = $3.575M + before he goes to arbitration this winter. For a utility guy. And we're giving up value. Linebrink better be going to Kansas City because Teahen is a borderline bad contract. Yeah and add in the 1.5 for kotsay and it seems we are spending all our excess cash in little places. I don't like it if it prevents us from getting things that will really help since we are more than a utility player away from winning.

QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 10:27 AM) What is all this love about CJ? I particularly don't think much of him, if anything a role player off the bench of some sort. The minor league player love gets to be a tad ridiculous sometimes. Until they prove something I certainly don't want us plugging them into the lineup to start the season. I agree with you 100%. CJ is not the starting 2b next year.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 09:21 AM) I think the debate now goes to CJ breaking camp with the team. Why all the love here for CJ? I think hes gonna be just a utility type not an above average player.

QUOTE (sayitaintso @ Oct 25, 2009 -> 01:51 PM) I still get the chills from watching that video, seeing it in person though is something that i will never forget. Those were two memorable homeruns. i was at the Illini Arizona game where we came back from 15 down to steal that game. It was the loudest place I have ever been in and at the time I thought it was the greatest sports moment I attended. Then five months later Paulie hit the grandslam and somehow that was 20 times better. I will never forget it and miss it. I have friends who were at the Super Bowl and say that Hester's TD on the opening kickoff was better but no way can they convince me of that.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 27, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) An obvious alternative is to think about what the Red Sox might have spent that money on had they not signed Daisuke. There were a number of candidates. Johan is the obvious answer. They could also have been able to prevent the Yanks from signing either CC or Tex last offseason if their offers had been $20 mil over 8 years higher. now this is smart thinking

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 27, 2009 -> 11:41 AM) he helped them win a world series in 07, Im sure that counts for something He did help that is true. But he was at best the third best pitcher on that team. He pitched poorly in the ALDS and ALCS. He did well in the WS sweep, which they would have won without him. We can differ on whether he is worth 105 million bucks but in my opinion he is not, nor is he close.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 27, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) LOL, you have lost all credibility. You just claimed you have his birth certificate. It is possible to state why you think its a bad idea without making absurd, unfounded claims, and labeling them as if they were fact. You cannot possibly know for a fact what his age is. of course i dont know for a fact, nobody does, heck he probably doesnt even know. im not making absurd unfounded claims either. i do know what age the organization believes he is and its not 21 and i will leave it at that. is it so absurd to think his age is not 21? i think its more absurd to think that he is 21.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 26, 2009 -> 06:37 PM) You have his scouting report, his birth certificate, and a crystal ball?? yes, yes and i have seen how these over hyped prospects, especially pitchers, have turned out and they arent worth the ridiculous financial risk. do you think the red sox wish they paid dice k still?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 26, 2009 -> 03:19 PM) Split the details all you want, the kid is supposed to be something special. hes not 21 first of all. he throws mid 90s and doesnt have much command. hes a project and not worth 60M. there have been plenty of guys with live arms who have amounted to nothing. to pay this guy that kind of money is crazy. even if it works out, he may be at most worth what you pay him and the odds are much higher that he will be worth a lot less.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 08:00 AM) There also hasn't been a young pitcher with a 102 mph fastball come out of Cuba either. and there still isnt

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 01:18 PM) There's no way in hell I'd trade Floyd or Danks over Hudson. I too have been impressed with Danny, but Jesus Christ people! He's not the prospect that Project Prospect is saying he is and he hasn't done anything yet to show he's even half as valuable to us as each one of Floyd and Danks are. If/when Hudson shows he can be as good in the Majors as Floyd and Danks have been, then you can put him in that category. All I know is that if some other GM held Hudson in such high regard as Danks or Floyd, then I immediately open trade talks with that guy. completely agree. Hudson is not the #3 pitching prospect. this list is garbage. it still has carlos carassco as #7 i believe (didnt go back and check) and hes nothing.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 12:26 PM) Not sure if you noticed, but DET was nearly out of pitchers, and this was a truly do or die game. So, if Rodney still has his stuff, then you definitely keep him in there until he shows signs that he is running out of gas. sure i noticed, detroit used 5 pitchers. they had at least 2 reliever and probably a starter who could go. plus probably some september callups. a closer cannot pitch 4 innings, he was clearly gassed. a guy who has been pitching one inning all season is not stretched out to go 4. not to mention those innings last night were all high stress innings

QUOTE (Boogua @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 12:47 PM) Just wondering what argument can be made in Verlander's case... I mean, he obviously had a better year than Peavy this year, but that's because Peavy missed a substantial amount of time. 4 out of the last 6 seasons Peavy has had a better ERA+ than Verlander had this year and this was Verlander's best year of his career. Start with the fact that Verlander is just reaching his prime and had his best season and is a horse. Continue with the fact that Peavy pitched in the best pithing park in baseball and in a crap league, which certainly helps his stats immensly.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) Such homers, last nights game was far superior. Back and forth, great defense, good hitting, good pitching and extras. Its not even close actually. I dont know why I havent read what a bad manager Leyland is. How can you have Rodney in the game for 4 innings? Can you imagine if Ozzie left Jenks in the game for 4 innings the kind of crap he would get?
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 6, 2009 -> 10:03 PM) Peavy is better than Verlander without question. uhhh no hes not. an argument could be made for either but certainly not without question.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 01:11 PM) people think like that because 2 years ago he was 6 HR shy of being 30-30 so one time in a 6 year career he got 6 hrs away and that makes him a promising 30/30 player??

According to Sun Times Kotsay wants to be back

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 05:35 PM) What amazes me is most of you think that Pods will be back next year? My guess is he gets a 2 yr offer which I am not sure we match given his injury history and he's not getting any younger...thoughts? I think its less than 50% he is back. I know that he wants a 3 year deal but I don't see him getting that. I would be ok with us giving him a one year deal but anymore I think is silly. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) Hell, he's talented enough that if he keeps his head in the game and gets his swing fixed up, he could still actually be a bargain. 30/30 hitters in CF don't exactly grow on trees. No they dont and hes far from a 30/30 hitter. hes not even close and why people think he is is crazy.

QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 09:54 PM) if we dump Dye, I can see Pods in LF, Rios in CF, Kotsay in RF with Q at DH and PK at 1B OR Keep Dye, dump PK and Pods in LF, Rios in CF, Dye in RF, Q at DH, Kotsay at 1B I think hes back no matter what This would be terrible. If Kotsay is back as a bench player, fine. If he is at all a starter or even getting 300 at bats then we are in serious trouble. This would be back to the days of Erstad as a starter. Kotsay has no business seeing significant time on a contending team. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) The "end" of the steroid era has seen a lot of position players suddenly tank. Bingo!!!!

QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 02:06 PM) Damn...unreal the hatred for Bobby. He's not had a great season by any means but he hasn't been JD or Linebrink bad, not even close. I for one hope he is back next year because that's one helluva tough position to fill. Seems everyone thinks Thornton can just step in and succeed....that's no sure thing, nor is there any sure thing to backfill the LH setup roll. All these "fat tub of lard" and "screw in his arm" crap is ridiculous. The guy was big when he was very successful and he's big now...it has nothing to do with anything. We've also got absolutely zero evidence that his arm has been or will be a problem. Yeah it is suprising that there is such a backlash against Bobby and yet Rios who has been here just over a month and sucked monkey balls is so well supported because he is just having a bad season and everyone is so sure he will be good again. Makes no sense to me. I think the Sox should explore trading Bobby. I don't think he or any closer for that matter is worth the amount the top ones get paid and if they can get something good for him I am all for it. But I don't have any hatred for him and think he is pretty capable of doing the job. I like Thorton in the setup role and think he is too valuable there to move, plus that would cause all kinds of problems with the rest of our troubled pen.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 09:25 AM) Gordo I can agree with, Danks was a fluke. He should have never fell that far. Danks is a long way from being a major league player at this point.
