QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) No. I don't know why people would think they should. Well for one reason, the incredible amount of time that a D1 athlete has to commit to his or her sport does not allow for them to have even a part time job that a normal college student would be able to have. While often times...but not always...they have at least some of their tuition payed, that still provides no spending money whatsoever. I'm not saying I necessarily agree or disagree with athletes getting payed...but it's at least something to consider.

From ESPN: Link Very good choice for them in my opinion. I think Romeo Crennel would have been a nice pick as well but I like seeing them getting some young defensive minded guys in there...especially with Nolan having previous ties to the 9ers organization. Here's to hoping they look at trading down a few spots and maybe pick up D Johnson if they plan on switching full time to the 3-4 D.

QUOTE(JoshPR @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) Of course Bonds is going to be pacient. Pitches aren't even close. DUH! Oh they go way deeper into it than that...Link. To sum up their point:

ESPN's Hot Stove Heater's is doing a daily report on "the best players in the game in some of the little things that make a big difference." Here are the catagories (and days they will be posted) along with the first two categories which have already been done: Wed. Jan. 12: Best bunter ... Juan Pierre Thu. Jan. 13: Most patient hitter ... Barry Bonds Fri. Jan. 14: Best hit-and-run guy Mon. Jan. 17: Best two-strike hitter Tue. Jan. 18: Best baserunner Wed. Jan. 19: Most exciting baserunner Thu. Jan. 20: Best basestealer Fri. Jan. 21: Best at breaking up a double play Mon. Jan. 24: Best control pitcher Tue. Jan. 25: Most durable pitcher Wed. Jan. 26: Best slide-step pitcher Thu. Jan. 27: Best pickoff move Fri. Jan. 28: Best pitcher at moving hitters off the plate Mon. Jan. 31: Best-hitting pitcher Tue. Feb. 1: Best outfield arm Wed. Feb. 2: Most accurate outfield arm Thu. Feb. 3: Best outfielder at playing the wall Mon. Feb. 7: Best infield arm Tue. Feb. 8: Best double-play combination Wed. Feb. 9: Best cutoff man Thu. Feb. 10: Best first baseman around the bag Fri. Feb. 11: Best catcher at blocking the plate Mon. Feb. 14: Best catcher at calling a game Tue. Feb. 15: Best on-field manager Wed. Feb. 16: Best third-base coach Thu. Feb. 17: Best prankster/clubhouse clown Fri. Feb. 18: Best leader This got me to thinking...what players currently on the Sox roster could potentially win any of the categories. Here is what I came up with (again these are only the one's I thought Sox players could WIN...not, well they deserve consideration): Most patient hitter - Frank Thomas...Big Frank is probably the most patient hitter I have ever seen but you can never go wrong choosing Bonds I guess. Most exciting baserunner - Scott Posednik...I haven't really seen enough of him but based on SB alone he could win...Ichiro or C. Crawford from what I have seen however Best basestealer - Scott Posednik...this one has to be him Most durable pitcher - Mark Buehrle...he's a machine Best pickoff move - Mark Buehrle...great move but I bet will get overshadowed by A. Pettite or others (relievers?) Those are really they only specific one's I think the Sox should probably win. There are a few that would probably warrent consideration such as: Best outfield arm - J. Dye in his prime...(but still no Ichiro) Best infield arm - J. Uribe Best catcher at blocking the plate - B. Davis...he would be a brick wall to run into Best prankster/clubhouse clown - O. Guillen...at least as far as managers go he has to be one of the most upbeat and fun to be around Anyone else deserve consideration?

No...we got him along with Felix Diaz for Kenny Lofton. Which by the way was a very good trade IMO...Lofton was useless to us and we got two pretty decent prospects at the time.

Just for the record...because I'm getting bored waiting for Levine's big news...you can check out new guys stats here: Ryan Warpinski

WTF? What the hell good would that do? I mean I hate Sosa as much as anybody but s*** I'd take him if he was FREE. Jim Bowden = things that make you go hmmm... Oh yeah...... :fthecubs

That just seems a little strange to me...why start the juice coming off an MVP year. Hmmmm -- seems highly unlikely to me.
-
Just out of curiosity...Giambi admitted to using steroids in his MVP year with Oakland correct? Well if this is the case does MLB revoked his award? Big Frank finished second to Giambi that year so wouldn't he be the most logical choice to award the MVP for that year to?
-
Here's what he looks like...for the record.

Did anybody read this article about the "Gyroball" that this kid throws? Among other things the article states him throwing up to 98 mph to go along with this pitch that for the most part no one else can (or does) throw.

IOWA!!!

Careful Jason...remember what happened as soon as we thought Vizquel and then Guzman would be a White Sox by the end of the offseason...
-
Probably no less (maybe even a little more) but you don't have to give up a player to get him.
