QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 09:48 PM) How many were Cubs fans? Probably 40%. Same thing for todays' game, a little over 28,000 on hand...

The Royals end their 6-game skid, beating the Cubs 3-2 in front of a sellout crowd...

QUOTE (High Mileage @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 03:48 PM) Some instant karma right there. In the previous bottom half of the inning, Pujols hit a home run. Earlier in that at-bat, rookie Louis Coleman was trying to pitch him inside, and of course one got away. It didn't even put Pujols in the dirt, but after his homer he watched it as he walked half way to first, and then glared at Coleman as he rounded the bases. This came AFTER the Cards intentionally hit Alex Gordon earlier in the game... QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 03:51 PM) I like Pujols less and less with each new subject about him. My mistake. Gordon was hit after all of this, not before. Here's what he had to say... "The first one went behind me and wasn't even close. I thought it was just an accident, trying to come inside and missed. The next one wasn't even close, either, so I was kind of surprised they hit the leadoff guy in that kind of a game with the meat of your lineup coming up," Gordon said. The retaliation theory really didn't make much sense considering that Tallet, in fact, was brought in expressly to face the left-handed-hitting Gordon in a tight game. "If it was on purpose, I mean what is your retaliation? What are you retaliating -- that Albert got hurt at first on a clean play? Or that there was a pitch inside that almost hit Albert that didn't?" Gordon said. "I'd say, 'Quit being a bunch of babies.'"

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 11:30 PM) I guess so man. For a team with the "best system in baseball" that is not competing, I don't know why you would waste $2.5 million on a guy that nobody else wants, who has proven to automatically decline after he spends a few months with a team. That's cool if you are happy with him, but there is no way that it can be considered a "good move" for Moore. Because Francoeur is better than throwing a guy like Mitch Maier or Jarrod Dyson out there, or some completely unproven player like David Lough or rushing a player like Wil Myers. Frenchy was cheap, a low risk/high reward type of move. If he plays well, we can move him for some prospect, if he sucks then he'll finish the season here and be on his way, for the low cost of $2.5M. I'll take Frenchy over Mark Teahen ($4.75M) or even Alex Rios ($12.5M). QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 08:23 AM) We can debate the Gil Meche signing, but that was very important symbolically. Of course, the problem has always been these "filler" contracts like Bloomquist, Pods, Ankiel, Callaspo/Betemit, Farnsworth, Juan Cruz, etc. The argument was that they had to put "legitimate" major league players out there on the field in order to bridge that time period from 60 win teams to competitive ones instead of rushing ALL their minor leaguers up prematurely. And the Royals have really struggled to develop outfielders internally since Damon, DeJesus, Beltran and Dye (via trade from ATL). At least to the fans, there's now a clear identity and direction for the first time since the early 90's. Several good points. But Meche was desired by several teams, the Royals weren't the only ones offering him that kind of money. Same goes for Juan Cruz. Bloomquist was a nice utility player, he just sucked as an everyday player. They did give him too much money and years though. Pods was a nice pick-up, he was cheap and played well for us (.310/.353/.400). Dayton Moore turned Ankiel and Farnsworth into Tim Collins among other prospects, good moves if you ask me. They did give Farnsworth a lot of money, but he also did well for us, posting a 3.40 ERA in 78 games over two years.

I'm not saying the guy is a superstar, he's obviously not, but for the money he's been a great pick-up. He's a filler type, meanwhile he's been a pleasant surprise and his arm has saved our asses on more than one occasion...

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 07:28 AM) Even the Greinke trade...I think Escobar is going to be a bust, and I have argued this before, I don't think he is anywhere close to where Elvis Andrus is (whom people seem to enjoy comparing him to). Sure a lot of GM's could've made those picks, but Moore has made those picks. He's also somehow got ownership to give him a book of blank checks for the Draft and IFA signings, no easy feat to say the least. While his MLB moves have been less than impressive, you can't fault the guy for trying. He may have given Jose Guillen $36 million, but only after losing out on Torii Hunter and Andruw Jones. He's also went after Orlando Hudson and Rafael Furcal, among others. He's made some pretty good moves though. How about Joakim Soria as a Rule V pick? Or Francoeur for $2.5M? Betemit for $1M? I agree, at this point, I think comparing Escobar to Andrus is ridiculous. He has provided the team with consistent (and often spectacular) defense though, which is what we needed from him the most. Over the last two weeks, Escobar has went from... .204/.239/.239/.478 to... .246/.279/.294/.573 20-for-51 (.392) in that 2-week stretch...

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 10:13 AM) Yeah, it's actually referred to as "The Plan," too "The Process". Dayton Moore has been mocked for repeatedly saying "trust the process".

Baseball died in Montreal with the strike. Toronto doesn't even deserve a team anymore. I've always thought Austin, Nashville, and Charlotte would be interesting baseball cities. Never thought about Portland, but I could see it...

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 01:51 PM) Good luck with that Thanks. Royals take the season series against the Angels, 7 games to 3. Vin Mazzaro with 7 scoreless innings, and a victory.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 02:54 PM) Contract Oakland and KC or Tampa and realign this way: (4 NL teams to the AL, 2 AL teams to the NL) AL East: Baltimore Orioles Boston Red Sox New York Yankees Toronto Blue Jays AL Central: Chicago White Sox Cleveland Indians Detroit Tigers Minnesota Twins Milwaukee Brewers AL South: Texas Rangers Houston Astros Atlanta Braves Florida Marlins Tampa Bay Rays or Kansas City Royals NL East: New York Mets Washington Nationals Philadelphia Phillies Pittsburgh Pirates NL Central: Chicago Cubs Cincinnati Reds St. Louis Cardinals Colorado Rockies NL West: Los Angeles Dodgers Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim San Diego Padres Arizona Diamondbacks San Francisco Giants Seattle Mariners The idea that you would even mention KC and contraction in the same conversation is RETARDED. KC supports good baseball, Tampa and Oakland don't. Not to mention the $250 million in renovations to an already beautiful ballpark, that were just completed in July of 2009. Also your list of the divisions there pretty much defeats the purpose of realignment altogether, nice work. Oakland and Tampa both play in dumps in front of nobody. Hell KC wasn't even mentioned the last time contraction rumors were around, that was Montreal and Minnesota. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 12:01 AM) Part of the problem now is the imbalance of the AL West & NL Central. Why would they add more imbalance and more divisons with uneven amounts of teams? Exactly. QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 09:12 AM) the all star game is in Arizona this year Right, KC hosts next years' game. Assuming they still have a team...

Neither. Kila will finish out the season in Omaha (barring injury to Hosmer/Butler) and probably not be brought back next season. He's got no future with the organization.

I'm not sure "fun" is the word I would use for my team this season (or any other), but after many, many years of being told things were going to be different, they finally are. I don't get so down on them for losing. I actually have some hope we'll contend soon. It sucked losing John Lamb (#18 overall prospect according to BA) to TJ surgery, but I still believe we've got enough pitching in-house. Mike Montgomery and Danny Duffy are still developing. There's still some hope for O'Sullivan and Hochevar. I believe Aaron Crow will end up in the rotation. Odorizzi looks very, very promising. We've also got some interesting trade pieces, not sure what they'll bring, but we'll see...

The Royals have 7 consecutive 1st round picks on their 25-man roster. That's pretty crazy.

Moose has had less than impressive April's every year now. Some have said its weather related...

I made the 300 mile drive, at my first Royals game of the year right now!!!

QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 29, 2011 -> 09:59 PM) I believe they are converting him back into a starter. I have not heard of this, but it may be true after all. He seemed to be pitching just fine when they sent him down, at the time I believed it was just a matter of who had options and who didn't. Soria, at least for the time being, is out as Royals' closer. Rookie Aaron Crow will take over...

The Mariners are 10-7 now without Milton Bradley...

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 30, 2011 -> 02:12 PM) KC must regret not trading Soria in the offseason. His trade value keeps diminishing with every pitch he throws. I don't get that vibe at all, he's struggled a bit, but hell he's only human. Hosmer continues to rake...

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 28, 2011 -> 08:11 PM) Reality has set in for the Royals. Or I guess you could say it set in a couple weeks ago. That starting pitching is beyond terrible. O'Sullivan doing his best Vin Mazzaro imitation. Looks like it's the Indians, Tigers orrrrrrrrrr They've been losing quite a few close games lately. The offense has still been picking up the rotation, but that only gets them so far. June 1 (and/or after) should bring in a few more fresh faces....

Doubtful.

Pretty neat...

Truely a sad day for Royals' fans/players/employees...

QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2011 -> 06:29 PM) His body is not much different than it was 13 years ago when he was playing at TF South. He showed a lot of power in a huge park in Detroit, and the biggest improvement seems to be his approach against LHP. Playing in that park, it's not a surprise he's putting up huge numbers finally. He's actually hitting quite a bit better on the road this season, 8 HR home and 8 HR away though...
