  1. Hosmer has started two late game rallies in consecutive wins for the Royals. The Indians placed Alex White (finger) on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, according to the team's official Twitter page.
  2. With Everett Teaford getting called up today, the Royals now have EIGHT rookies on the 25-man roster, 6 of them being pitchers. Top pitching prospect Danny Duffy will officially join the 25-man roster tomorrow, so of course that number could increase...
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2011 -> 08:31 AM) Now that is taking one for the team. Ouch. In his home debut nonetheless... QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 17, 2011 -> 11:04 AM) Royals to call up Danny Duffy. Really looking forward to seeing him pitch. Huge fan of him and Hosmer. I hope we get to see Moose & Montgomery sometime this year too. I'm pretty excited for Royals fans. Came here to post this. QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 17, 2011 -> 12:41 PM) I for one am not hyping them this year, it's 2012/2013 and beyond where things look bright. Until then it's nice to follow the many prospects they have and see how they make their big league debuts. It might not all work out at the end, but the Royals organization is closer to contention than they have been in a long time. I look forward to seeing how it pans out. Well said.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 13, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) If KC keeps winning, the place will be 30,000 plus all June and July and the first 2 weeks of August. Problem is they've already had a ton of home games. KC doesn't draw squat in April and May, at least not the last 15 years when people have been resigned to s*** teams. KC will be fine. I agree. June 1 should bring more of our highly touted prospects to KC as well. If the team stays competitive, people will start showing up, much like they did during the Summer of '03. Difference being that nobody on the planet thought that team would win the next day, it was a complete mirage and everybody knew it. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2011 -> 05:56 PM) Really, what basis do you figure that out? KC hasn't averaged more than 22k a game since the late 80's. They've had plenty of June/July/August games with 10-12,000 fans showing up the last few years. How do you know this with no evidence? People in this area will stay home if the teams are losing. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2011 -> 06:12 PM) Because we've both lived there or nearby. 1994 24,356 per game 1995 17,000+ (post-strike) 2003 23,000+ The Royals fans have been waiting 15 years for a consistent winner. Like Chicago, they tend to support winning or at least above average teams. Similar stadiums, especially the upper decks, although Kauffman is much more beautiful because of the fountains and outfield architecture. Similarly effected by the strike, except they NEVER got their fans back after that event because they failed to produce any decent teams from that point onward. The fans there are already making plans to come out to see Hosmer, local bars are being asked for the first time in 8 years to turn on the Royals' games, they just beat the Yankees in NYC for the first time in 12 years, there's a buzz around the team/city/organization that last existed in 2009 when Greinke would pitch, in 2003 and the great offensive teams with Damon/Dye/Beltran/Randa/Sweeney around a decade ago. And they still have Moustakas to promote as well, when he replaces Betemit later in the year. Tickets are still much affordable and reasonable compared to Chicago, fwiw. It's bit expensive, but it's still a good family entertainment option, and KC's the kind of place that "oozes family." It's not exciting like Chicago, but the fans have been waiting for someone to identify with. They never really loved Greinke, they appreciated his greatness and ability, but it was never a close relationship or idolation. Good stuff, and correct. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2011 -> 09:02 PM) The city population of KC isn't the sole indicator here. They're not sharing the city with another franchise and they're a "regional" team (like the Cardinals) that historically drew very well from Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska (the AAA team was always in Omaha), Arkansas, Colorado, etc. The KC population has been pretty stable over the last 10-20 years. I haven't looked it up, but I'd guess the attendance for the Royals from 1976/77-1994 was very similar, even though St. Louis also has a much larger population base. +1 QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2011 -> 09:39 PM) But compared to capacity, They don't fill up that much. Pre- strike they grew slowly to 2.4 mil and have hung around 1.6 since the strike The Royals' owner and founder died one year, the strike hit the next. The AL Central was in its' first year, and was also the best division in baseball. When the strike stopped the '94 season August 12th, the Royals were in third place, and they were 64-51. In an effort to make the team more appealing for new ownership, those in charge decided to cut payroll. The team has been pretty terrible since, that's why people don't go...
  5. Royals just took 2 of 3 from the Yankees in New York. Their fans were booing them tonight in the 2nd inning through the 4th. They chanted "MELKY! MELKY! MELKY!" and cheered loudly for him all series. They also cheered Eric Hosmer, who homered in back to back games. Goddamn I hate the Yankees!!!
  6. I was wondering where he was, he has to better than Teahen right...?
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2011 -> 02:35 AM) Thought High Mileage would enjoy this article if he hasn't already seen it, reminiscing about Bo Jackson's arrival 25 years ago and how similar hopes are being placed on Hosmer. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Ak7z...memories_050611 Great read, thanks man! We sent Jose Rosado, Ken Harvey and Mark Redman to the ASG. It's been rough here. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2011 -> 02:37 AM) Don't forget Aaron Crow, even though he's a current member of the bullpen, he's a rookie technically. And Mazzaro from the A's, who was supposed to be the 5th starter coming into ST. That's a lot of starting pitching depth. The White Sox don't even have a single guy who would come close to cracking the Royals' Top 7. I agree on all points, but I am not educated on the Sox farm system, at all. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 10, 2011 -> 10:38 PM) Mileage, I still hate you. Odorizzi went nuts tonight.Dayton Moore has went on record as saying that Odorizzi was the most important part of the Greinke deal.QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2011 -> 10:55 PM) Who's this Louis Coleman reliever on KC? Fantastic strikeout numbers in the minors, and he's doing well in the majors so far also. You may remember him from the College Word Series last year. He was huge for LSU...
  8. Five years, IF you're lucky. Really, really lucky.
  9. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 9, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) If Bradley didn't make $9M a year or whatever, I would have thought Kenny would take a chance on him, but I kind of doubt it w/ that pricetag. The White Sox (or any other team dumb enough to pick him up) would only have to pay Milton a pro-rated portion of the league minimum, the Mariners pay the rest...
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 8, 2011 -> 10:51 AM) I officially hate High Mileage. Jake Odorizzi, who I don't think is viewed as one of the Royals' top 5 pitching 'spects, is obliterating High A at the ripe old age of 20. 2.42 ERA, 13.15 K/9, 1.73 BB/9 in 5 starts so far. The Royals are coming. He came over in the Greinke trade. He was the Brewers' top pitching prospect, not sure where he falls in line in our system... 1. Mike Montgomery 2. Danny Duffy 3. John Lamb 4. Chris Dwyer 5. Jake Odorizzi?
  11. Frenchy is making $2.5M this year and the team has a $4M option on him for next year. Very low risk situation...
  12. Assuming KC falls out of the race, we could have some interesting trade chips. Melky Cabrera, Bruce Chen, Jeff Francis, Wilson Betemit, Mike Aviles, Matt Treanor, etc. Jeff Francoeur has pretty much played into getting his option picked up already, so he'll be back I'm sure. Hopefully Kyle Davies can gain some value too, even a fringe prospect... Attendance of 30,690 (80.4% full) last night for Hosmers' debut, second most since Opening Day. Lorenzo Cain is getting it together in Omaha. Current line of .292/.393/.431...
  13. Hosmer looked pretty sharp tonight. Made a great snag/throw on a 3-6-3 double play and made a few nice scoops. He worked 3-2 counts and drew walks in his first two appearances. He stole a base, and struck out looking on two really bad calls.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 6, 2011 -> 05:38 PM) Are you guys going to leave Crow in the bullpen all year? He's been rather impressive in his role so far. I believe he and Duffy will replace Davies and Francis before the year is over. I'm fine with him staying put for now though... QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2011 -> 05:51 PM) The Royals, on paper, have one of the worst rotations in baseball. 2-3 months from now, you might see Hochevar, Montgomery, Crow, D. Duffy and Chen/O'Sullivan. Davies and Jeff Francis are definitely in danger of being released/demoted, probably Davies. +1
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 3, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) At least you kind of know this going in though. That doesn't make it suck any less. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ May 3, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) not really, what do u expect, when your team signs crap fa's and spends no money. the sox actually spent money and have good players but..its not happening The crap FA's we can all agree on. But the money part has changed. The Sox are an aging team, players older, decline, and become streaky... QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 3, 2011 -> 10:42 PM) at the second paragraph.
  16. At this point, you all now know exactly how it feels to be a Royals fan.
  17. So the Twins were just swept and outscored 25-8 in 3 games here in KC...
  18. As much as I dislike Ozzie, his expletives and broken English crack me up...
  19. Royals have lost 5 in a row, back to .500 baseball. Gordon also lost his 19-game hitting streak last night, he got robbed of at least 2 hits. Jeff Francoeur has a 16-game hitting streak. Think about how remarkable that is...
  20. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 28, 2011 -> 01:23 PM) Im pretty sure most scouts think Newton has a better arm than Tebow (Tebow was still a 1st round pick). Josh McDaniels picked him though, so that's not really saying anything...
  21. I'm pretty hyped for tonight's Draft! Our GM is a genius and has always drafted well. I'm hoping for Smith/Solder/Carimi/Castonzo in that order, but it's nice to not really care who my team picks!
