Kerry Wood signs 1 year, $1.5 million deal with Cubs
Springfield Soxfan replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 05:08 PM) I hope for the sake of Kerry Wood's intelligence the offer was pulled after we signed Crain. Because if he took less money from a team that is going to suck over more money from a contender, he's just plain stupid. Do you think that the Sox made offers to both Crain and Wood thinking they could get both or was it a none or the other situation? -
Which deal would you have preferred?
Springfield Soxfan replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Crain all the way. I love you Bobby Jenks!! However, what are the Red Sox up to? Jenks, Bard, Papelbon................. I wonder if Papelbon gets traded? -
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 08:10 AM) to force the Cubs to sign Wood, so they back off Webb. Just my scenario. that is a pretty legitimate scenario, KW has asked on Webb each year and you know he is at least trying to get him.
-
This is just crazy! How the expectations for the off season have changed. Go KW, keep it up.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 10:29 PM) Am I the only crazy person who doesn't want to trade anybody from our rotation???? This doesn't make ANY sense to me. We're going "all in" by trading a piece of our awesome rotation? Or by dealing a good bat for relievers? I'm in complete agreement, do not trade pitching unless it is for other pitching. Without knowing Peavy's status and the a fifth starter still up in the air, I would not favor trading from this group at all right now. Also with the budget, KW still has the issue of Danks' contract and arbitration.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 06:52 PM) According to the link below both Crain and Guerrier, the two best relievers left on the open market, maybe not be looking to ink a deal similar to Benoit's with Detroit (3 years, 16.5M). These are probably the best two relievers left on the market so I would be shocked if KW didnt have any interest. Either one of these guys could definatly fill the void left by the loss of Putz and Jenks. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/12/guer...noit-money.html Either one would be a great acquisition. Let's hope we make a run at this, it would be great if we could pull off another FA acquisition.

White Sox listening to offers for Buehrle
Springfield Soxfan replied to ozzfest's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 12, 2010 -> 11:07 AM) Truth. 2008: full no-trade clause 2009 - July 15, 2010: limited no-trade protection allowing Buehrle to block trades to certain unspecified clubs. A trade triggers an escalator paying $1M raise to $15M annually, plus a guaranteed fifth year paying $15M for 2012. July 16, 2010-2011: Buehrle may not be traded without his permission, under right as 10-and-5 player Per Cot's Baseball Contracts Ok, so to further clarify the fifth year option on that contract that would vest if Buehrle was trades was voided once he achieved 10-5 status. -
2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All

Maybe this debate is for another thread, but who is the starting 3b next year, Vizquel, Teahan, or Morel? -
Multiple Sources: Sox actively shopping Quentin
Springfield Soxfan replied to SoxFan1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 08:02 AM) I think we gotta give TCQ one more year to see if he can get his head straight, as the 2008 version would make our offense pretty sick. I realize that was a while ago but again I think we should give him one more year, seems he will be 100% starting spring training with no nagging injuries. If we've gone this far why can't we just spend another 3-4 million on two halfway decent relievers who have some experience under their belt? It seems silly to spend all this money on PK, Dunn, etc and then start the season with a few minor leaguers working out of the pen.... I agree as well if TCQ is healthy, this lineup is stacked!! Use prospects to get bullpen help (if possible), the thoughts and potential for this lineup are scary. -
Scott Downs signs with Angels - 3 yrs, $15M
Springfield Soxfan replied to justBLAZE's topic in The Diamond Club
KW gave Dotel and Linebrink more than $5 million per in recent years. -
Multiple Sources: Sox actively shopping Quentin
Springfield Soxfan replied to SoxFan1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I know we need relief pitching, but I hope we are not looking to trade Quentin just to trade him, our line up is stacked right now and I would like to keep him, but with the right offer............ -
Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
Springfield Soxfan replied to ozzfest's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) "The White Sox are awaiting a response from Konerko and agent Craig Landis, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter)." Latest update from MLBTR about Paulie. I don't think KW likes to wait very long (as we've pretty much established) so I'm curious to see how this plays out. I think KW is ready to pull the trigger on another direction and will not wait until Friday, PK make a decision and get this done!! We just need to know either way. -

Is 2011 the last year of Edwin Jackson's contract or is he signed through 2012? -
Dbacks have reached a deal with Putz
Springfield Soxfan replied to joeynach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 06:55 PM) SI_JonHeyman Putz gets $10 mil guaranteed, 2 years from arizona I don't think the Sox wanted to give him two years. That's a lot of coin for a reliever who has broken down a lot recently. -
Werth is a great person who is very charitable in the Springfield, Illinois area so good for him. But man, how stupid are the Nationals, and what does Carl Crawford stand to make now. Good for Jason!!!

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
Springfield Soxfan replied to Chisoxfn's topic in 2011 Season in Review
QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) I don't know how he could mention Cliff Lee and the White Sox. We'd have to trade Buehrle and likely Edwin immediately to afford him. How many times have we heard that JR and KW will NOT give pitchers 5 years deals, there is no chance, unless it is something crazy like three years at $25 million per. -
Sox engaged in "advanced trade discussions"
Springfield Soxfan replied to Leonard Washington's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think the Cardinals signing of Berkman means that no Quentin to the Cardinals. -

The Cardinals need pitching and some more power, we match with them if their financial situation can handle either player. -
Sox engaged in "advanced trade discussions"
Springfield Soxfan replied to Leonard Washington's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 08:24 AM) As G&T mentioned, it was almost certainly the Linebrink trade. On top of that, the Cardinals and White Sox really don't match up that well, the Cardinals want to keep Rasmus (and Mozeliak as said as much), Rasmus has made amends with LaRussa, and Williams has said that the Sox won't be trading off any significant pieces. Again, to punctuate the first point, the Cards and Sox really don't match up that well. I also don't know why the thought that Williams has a "man crush" on Rasmus has resonated throughout Soxtalk, or the fact that he is going to pursue every single player he has a "man-crush" on, but it's a bit ridiculous. I'm sure Williams has a "man-crush" on like half of the players in the majors - it doesn't mean he's going to trade for all of them. The guy has a "man-crush" on Alex Rodriguez, but for some reason, I don't see the Sox involved with rumors for him. Call for due diligence? You bet your ass. Maybe when Rasmus is 46 though, right? Ok, point well taken on the man crush and that he will get his man someday as he has many times. To be more direct and with less emotion, KW has made no secret that he wants Rasmus and I don't buy the fact that Rasmus and LaRussa have made peace. With that, the Cards are at a cross roads right now with this Pujols contract and either Quentin or Buehrle would interest them. Let's see what happens. -
I wonder how San Diego can just get prospects, I would have thought Bard would have had to be in this trade, especially if Heath Bell will be moved at some point.

It has to be the Cardinals, KW has a man crush on Rasmus and he will be in the Sox outfield next year. -
White Sox trade Scott Linebrink to Braves
Springfield Soxfan replied to pmcochr's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) If they're deferring cash til next year, it means that Buehrle may be going bye-bye after this season. Buehrle has trade value due to the fact that if he is traded, the fifth year of his contract vests, I think he is gone this year. -
It's still amazing the Sox won with him as the closer in 2005, Bobby get it together and go pitch in the NL West.

Pierzynski Back; 2 years, $8 million
Springfield Soxfan replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 10:21 PM) You mean like when they took on $120M in Rios/Peavy contracts a couple seasons ago? Great point on that! Let's get PK signed tomorrow.
