  1. QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 09:24 AM) Oh god no to Delgado QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 07:19 PM) Meh, I can handle Delgado. Remember when Jurassic Carl roamed the...uhhh...where do DH's roam? We'll just say Pangaea. I can too, would actually be pretty pumped about a marginal salary with a lot of incentives.
  2. I still think KW takes a shot at Carlos Delgado before making any type of move like this.
  3. I still cannot believe Oliver is even relevant. He's terrible.
  4. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 06:56 AM) Whatever happened to the last two Cuban defectors? Yasser Gomez and Yadel Marti were never signed by any MLB team. I can't find any recent news on the Net. I agree completely and was just going to ask the same think, is there a list of the Cubans out there we can hope for.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) Look, I don't pretend that KW is the messiah. But after 9 years, if you really believe that he doesn't do whatever is in his power to make this team better, I don't know what to say. We all knew going in our options were limited. I agree, he is trying to win, listen to Stone on the Score today about our offseason he is optimistic.
  6. QUOTE (ozzfest @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 07:27 PM) can we kill this thread? white sox have no chance at agone. right now this thread just serves as a painful tease Never say never with KW, I agree the chances are slim, but you never know but every time someone updates this thread it gets my hopes up!!
  7. A lot of junk with these free agents, no one that seems on the cusp of being ready.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 05:09 PM) You are correct on all of these. However, that doesn't rid us of the biggest issue, the strikeouts. He was striking out on the same pace in A+ as in AA, so we can't blame that on the wrist I think 2k5 is right; it's plausible he could get a look in September of next year if he has a solid year at AA. But he needs to make a lot more contact of MLB pitching is going to eat him alive and he'll never hit over .250. Obviously this depends on any off season acquisitions, but if he is ready defensively, why not bring him up and bat him ninth, he can't hit any worse than Anderson.
  9. Here is the actual article, nothing really earth shattering. However, BA and a lot of others seem to really downplay Holmberg. Does anyone think he was an overdaft? I never really followed Taylor Thompson from Auburn, anyone know anything about him? White Sox Draft Report Card By John Manuel October 23, 2009 E-mail Print QUICK TAKE After striking gold with '08 draftees Gordon Beckham and Daniel Hudson, the White Sox were ecstatic to get Mitchell and his top-shelf tools so low in the first round. A hitter-heavy crop will become well rounded if college enigmas such as Buch and Thompson work out.POSITION PLAYERS BEST PURE HITTER:: OF Nick Ciolli (10) has the pretty swing path scouts look for, and his other tools are solid. He batted .317 at Rookie-level Great Falls. >> BEST POWER HITTER:: C Josh Phegley (2) slugged 32 homers in his last two seasons at Indiana, then hit nine after signing at low Class A Kannapolis. He has adjustments to make receiving and in his stance, but the raw hitting and power tools are there. >> FASTEST RUNNER:: OF Jared Mitchell (1) has electric athleticism and is a 70 runner on the 20-80 scouting scale. >> BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER: Mitchell played mostly right field at Louisiana State, despite his below-average arm. His speed and arm should play better in center. PITCHERS BEST FASTBALL: RHP Ryan Buch (8) was inconsistent all spring and in the summer after signing, but his fastball touched 97 mph in instructional league in short stints. RHP Taylor Thompson (44) pumps his heavy sinker in the 91-93 mph range, and RHP Kyle Bellamy (5) has plus life, sink and command of his upper-80s fastball from a submarine slot. >> BEST SECONDARY PITCH: Buch's curve can also be a plus pitch when he repeats his mechanics. LHP David Holmberg (2) has average velocity and a big body that might be maxed out physically, but he throws stikes and has good feel for a change and a plus curveball he commands well. ODDS AND ENDS BEST PRO DEBUT: Ciolli, whose batting average led the entire organization. Also, OF Brady Shoemaker (19) finished the year hitting 3-for-29 in Triple-A after a .351/.426/.585 performance at Rookie-level Bristol, which included nine home runs and 21 doubles. Mitchell started strong at Kannapolis, batting .296/.417/.435. Bellamy posted a 32/2 K/BB ratio and 1.23 ERA in 22 innings, mostly at Kannapolis. >> BEST ATHLETE: Mitchell. OF Trayce Thompson (2) has an athletic, projectable 6-foot-4, 200-pound frame. >> MOST INTRIGUING BACKGROUND:: Thompson is the son of former NBA center Mychal Thompson. Mitchell was a punt returner and wide receiver for LSU in football and won national titles both in baseball and football. The father of OF Harold Baines Jr. (45) had his number retired by the White Sox and was a six-time all-star who was the No. 1 overall pick in 1977. Unsigned RHP Grant Monroe (46) is the son of longtime Sox scout/adviser Larry. >> CLOSEST TO THE MAJORS: Bellamy could get to Chicago next year if he continues to succeed and there's a big league need. >> BEST LATE-ROUND PICK: Thompson, who had a 6.65 ERA in 154 innings at Auburn. >> THE ONE WHO GOT AWAY: After trading LHPs Clayton Richard and Aaron Poreda to the Padres, the White Sox really wanted LHP Bryan Morgado (3), an eligible sophomore who shined in the Cape Cod League this summer, but they couldn't make it work.
  10. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 12:20 PM) I don't think Loman is, he only played what, 2 years in the Angels system? Chicago White Sox Signed: RHP Jacob Marceaux (re-signed), LHP Wander Perez (re-signed) Granted free agency: 1B Wilson Betemit Recalled: RHP Lucas Harrell, RHP Jon Link, RHP Jeff Marquez, RHP Clevelan Santeliz, C Cole Armstrong, 3B Dayan Viciedo Outrighted to Triple-A and removed from 40-man: OF Dewayne Wise I posted this in multiple forums not sure which is most appropriate, but does this means that Harrell, Link and others are not Rule V eligible, and I am wondering what the reasoning is for moving Viciedo to the 40 man.
  11. From Baseball America, does this mean that Harrell, Link, Marquez, Santeliz, Armstrong and Viciedo cannot be exposed to the Rule V draft? Not sure, especially with Viciedo, but he might be in a different circumstance. Chicago White Sox Signed: RHP Jacob Marceaux (re-signed), LHP Wander Perez (re-signed) Granted free agency: 1B Wilson Betemit Recalled: RHP Lucas Harrell, RHP Jon Link, RHP Jeff Marquez, RHP Clevelan Santeliz, C Cole Armstrong, 3B Dayan Viciedo Outrighted to Triple-A and removed from 40-man: OF Dewayne Wise
  12. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 26, 2009 -> 12:18 PM) Probably because Kenny wanted space to add other prospects who they want to protect from the Rule-5. Good point, do we know who has to be protected this year? Whisler also was just outrighted to the minors as well.
  13. Not that he had a future, but does anyone know why we would release Egbert now?
  14. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 12:41 PM) Continued... http://futuresox.com/frontpage/?p=1541 Great article, thanks much!!!
  15. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) I'll make one more guess here: Brent Morel goes to Oakland as part of a deal for either Craig Breslow or Rajai Davis. Morel seems like the type of player Beane would covet. CJ also seems like a Beane type. I would trade Morel for Davis right now if that was even a remote option, Beane would want one of the Danks brothers for Davis at least.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 08:54 PM) If Kenny pulls off a block buster Hudson or Flowers will headline it. For an elite pitcher (Haren, Halladay), Hudson's the headliner. For a bat (Crawford) it'll be Flowers. If its someone like Fielder, both are gone. ^^^^Wow that is some optimism to be going after any of those three, trade those players. It will be a fun off season as always and looking forward to all the discussion. I think Link had a terrible year and that is why I think he is going to be unprotected, but with that, I'm not sure what players we have to move to the 40 man to protect.
  17. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 05:17 PM) Thank you for making a list. It's nice when people read the first post of a thread and respond accordingly. You are officially in the running for this: I'd bet against the first two, although they are definite possibilities to be moved like anyone. The reason is that the Sox need a lot of help in the bullpen so I imagine they'll put as many contenders in the pool as possible. But then again if they've already made their decisions they could start cutting some of the depth lose. I think Link is a candidate to be taken off the 40 man roster and be exposed to the Rule V draft.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2009 -> 08:57 PM) Interesting to see Morel on the list. There were a lot of people pissed off when he was drafted. Hopefully he amounts to something. I think Ely is a little high, but is this for prospects who might be major league ready next year. Mitchell should be on the list.
  19. How about an end of season wrap up for all the prospects that we traded this year?
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 09:49 AM) Danks needs the winter off badly. Heal up kid. If he isn't careful, he is going to be passed on the depth chart by a few guys. I could not agree more, tell him to just work on conditioning but stay away from baseball activities for a while for his physical and mental health.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 07:19 PM) Travis Chick no-hitter through 7 vs Birmingham. He's over 100 pitches, but I can't imagine he'll come out this being his last start of the year. Travis Chick, about 4 years ago, was one of the best pitching prospects in baseball.
  22. This is from today's Baseball America's ranking of top 30 prospects in the Cape Cod League, pretty critical of the Sox on this one. 5. Bryan Morgado, lhp, Bourne (Jr., Tennessee) After the White Sox added $117 million in contracts by acquiring Jake Peavy and Alexis Rios, they opted not to give an over-slot bonus to Morgado, their third-round pick. They may come to regret that decision, because he had the most electric stuff of any lefty in the league. Following a rough spring at Tennessee, Morgado still battled his command and delivery at times with Bourne. But at his best, the 6-foot-3, 205-pounder showed a low-90s fastball that touched 95, a tight slider and the makings of a useful changeup. Though he was draft-eligible as a redshirt sophomore—he missed 2007 following Tommy John surgery—he's still just 20. "He was the best pitcher in the league, the most complete pitcher in the league," Chatham manager John Schiffner said. "Velocity, makeup, breaking ball—it's all good."
  23. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 07:41 AM) I think Russell was called up. Who do the Sox outright off the 40 man roster tomorrow to make room for Flowers?
  24. QUOTE (CSF @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 10:11 PM) Adam Russell has a 5.25 with Portland as well. Though he actually has been decent. He's got 4 saves, and of the 9 appearances he's had, all 7 runs he gave up were in 1 outing. Of course, 6 BB in 12 IP is not so good. Again, at least Clayton is giving them a bit on the return. I think Russell was called up.
