Job Hunt Thread
QUOTE (The Gooch @ May 12, 2011 -> 01:01 PM) They don't seem to realize that they lose a lot of good talent by waiting so long sometimes. I flew out to DC to interview with the DSCC for a research position in January and they said they would get back to me in 4 weeks. Flash forward all the way to April, I finally get a call back - and this is after I had already accepted a position on a campaign in Missouri. Granted I've never had to do the hiring but I am shocked by how long it takes for some of these positions to be filled (note: most federal positions I was looking at said it would take 12-18 months to run a 'check' before an applicant would be hired).

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX COME BACK WINNER!!!
QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ May 12, 2011 -> 05:50 PM) Fairly stunning to me how many people hate watching the end of games. Especially in save situations. Also, is it really that hard to stay up until midnight? I get it if you have to get up before 5 am, but otherwise, a West Coast game should be pleasurable, a late night treat. Just my 3 cents. To the point of people 'hating watching the end of games'... sometimes it's not that they have given up or are tired, it's just that the stress is too much. My father is this type (and it has irked me for years)- he left the room during the '05 Illinois/Arizona Elite 8 game, missed the 'Bush Push' in the '07 ND/usc game, left at the end of the Texas/usc championship game, game 2 of the WS, and it goes on. Beyond my father, I have a couple friends that just get too stressed to watch something that they are so invested in. I don't get it myself (hell, I watched every game of the '07 season on Gametracker because I didn't have tv but couldn't miss a minute) but I do get that some people are just wired that way.

Jay Mariotti Speaks
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 12, 2011 -> 09:51 AM) I didn't know that Ebert said all of that stuff. That's cool. Link to Ebert's open letter to Jay in '08.

Hawk
QUOTE (oldsox @ May 5, 2011 -> 09:42 AM) ....Something like This is the most talented team to ever play this badly this long? I think he's losing it; tough to be a homer 24/7 with this bunch. I think we got Space Jammed- someone stole all of the talent from the team. Someone call up MJ.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
Being that I've moved to Missouri my local news is all Cards and Royals. Found this article very interesting, echoing similar 'board mentality' regarding Walker... http://www.stltoday.com/sports/columns/ber...19bb30f31a.html

Not a great feeling about the KC series...
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 4, 2011 -> 03:33 PM) KC is still KC they will come back to earth against the Sox. Didn't they start off to an awesome start in the first 20 or so games a couple years ago when Greinke was spitting hotfire? It started off the same way- "they'll come back to earth" but they kept playing well. Well, like everyone suspected, s*** came crashing down on them eventually. That eventuality will be realized today.

Sox (1-0) at Cleveland (0-1) April 2: 12:05 WGN
What the crap is this, WGN? I see CSN has the cubs' pregame show so I flipped over to WGN for our pregame show... they have some cartoon playing. And in this cartoon they were fighting with card things- except the 'beast' summoned was a plant. Is this seriously what kids have to watch now? More importantly- where is my pregame show?!

Sox at Cleveland 2:05 PM Opening Day!!
QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Apr 1, 2011 -> 01:01 PM) Anyone else looking forward to getting a glimpse of the Pirates against the Cubs? I'm not a fan of the Bucs overall philosophy, but I feel like guys like McCutchen, Alvarez and Doumit can be Major League stars if they were on a better team. If they had any starting pitching worth talking about, they could fight to go .500 and mess up that division race like Cleveland does in the AL Central every year. Don't worry, with the Pirates' mentality and payroll they will be gone soon. That team could has fielded some amazing players (for other teams) over the past decade.

Sox at Cleveland 2:05 PM Opening Day!!
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 10:58 PM) Those are the last 3 guys on the team I'd want hurling snowballs at me. I imagine a 96 MPH ball of packed snow and ice leaves a rather painful welt. I saw the video earlier and immediately thought of that commercial when they say it's a bad idea to get into a snowball fight with Randy Johnson (can't remember the product, great marketing, right?). But anyway, those didn't look like soft-tosses there, and I love how they used the cameraman as a body shield. But most importantly- almost game time!

Food changes at the Cell this year
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) It was primarily bottles when it was beers of the world. Green Line is one of those beers that is hard to get even if you are a bar. Its limited production. Edit: I love that you said draught instead of draft. Heres some background on the project: http://www.glproject.com/green-line-project-pages-3.php I LOVE that beer, wish they bottled it. Everything about that makes me want it even more. Now I'm tempted to take the train into the city and a bar with in tap for that game tomorrow...

And how is there no Green Line? I though that beer was introduced as their 'south side' beer?

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
The 1st and 10 crew on ESPN2 this morning picked the AL Central in the WS- Skip has the Twins winning it all, Rob has us losing to the Giants. I know these guys are not baseball guys but still fun to see another person in our corner.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 06:47 PM) Why you heading out to Jeff City? CoMo is just 20 minutes away. See some Mizzou Tiger athletics! I just got a job working on an election so I'll be working out of Jefferson City with a lot of travel to St. Louis as well. In addition to the April series, I see we have a weekend series in KC in September so I'll definitely be heading out that way again.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 25, 2011 -> 09:50 PM) First nine games matchups: 4-1 Buehrle - Carmona 4-2 Jackson - Carrasco 4-3 Danks - Masterson 4-4 4-5 Floyd - Hochevar 4-6 Humber - Francis 4-7 Buehrle - Price 4-8 Jackson - Shields 4-9 Danks - Davis 4-10 Floyd - Niemann Bah! I'm moving to Jefferson City, MO in a week and was going to sneak over to KC on the 6th for the game. It will be my first trip to Kauffman (always thought it looked like a great park on tv, heard great things about the environment as well). I was hoping the cards would fall such that I would get to see one of our 'real' starters. Oh well, probably the only game I'll get to go to so make the most of it!

If any of you like caps or uniforms or even sports history
QUOTE (YASNY @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 10:20 AM) It looks like to me. I actually kinda like that. It is a neat concept, though I don't think I would want that as a full-time change. While it good as piping, that would make it the secondary color for marketing purposes, and I can already see those overblown gold hats, shirts, etc.

Is that gold piping (I'm assuming, just can't tell on my monitor)?
