QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:57 AM) So the angels called up Trout today. Interesting to note that the Sox were deciding between Trout and Mitchell in 2009. Hard to fault them too much since Mitchell had a freak injury that may have cost him his shot at the bigs. However, had they chose Trout, where do you think he would be right now in our system? Toiling away in the minors because Ozzie can't find a place to play him.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:58 AM) I wasn't really going for the abstinence angle when I said too many people who aren't ready to be parents are having kids....although abstinence is one option. We just have too many young women (girls) having kids because they want somebody to love THEM unconditionally. Even if it means they can't care for them emotionally and/or financially. I don't know how many girls actually get pregnant because of that or because they are/were just stupid. My wife and I can pinpoint almost to the day when we conceived our first child. It was right around our anniversary and we decided to try with no protection. Even though we had gone nearly 2 years without her getting pregnant. It only takes one time...

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 10:08 AM) You mean risk going to jail themselves? You can go to jail because of an opinion?
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 05:27 PM) fwiw it sounds like the jury was actually pretty sophisticated: http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/07/06/florid....html?hpt=hp_t2 I can't believe they at least didn't try to get a mis-trial with a hung jury that could've allowed the prosecution to go back and strengthen their case before they re-tried her.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:50 AM) At all? Or enough? I thought the percentage of teens having sex dropped a good amount during the early 00's? I've always thought that it started going down when they quit trying to teach abstinence and instead starting handing out condoms and telling kids "We know you are going to try it, but at least be smart about it."

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:57 PM) You mentioned two situations where the outcome wasnt a surprise. An avg good looking woman like her sadistically killing her daughter and then partying for a month before reporting her missing is not an everyday occurrence. Thats why it got a ton of press. Actually I think it's the other way around. We can thank Nancy Grace.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 10:40 AM) I'd hope so, since a full day of Jury Duty pays you like, what, 17$? I got $10 when I went. It just about covered my lunch and parking expenses. I also missed an entire day's worth of pay at work. I had to make up a lie that I was biased against police officers so they wouldn't pick me. I wish now that I would have just told them that I really didn't want to be there and my only goal was to get out as soon as possible. That if it meant agreeing with the other 11 jurors even though I didn't believe it I would. Which would've been completely unfair to everyone involved. It was easier to just lie...

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 08:29 PM) Another solid thought on this... Bernie Tafoya I find it ironic there are so many arm-chair TV-watching jurors who try to avoid jury duty, yet are upset by the Casey Anthony decision. If I got paid the same amount for sitting in a jury box as I do for going to work, I'd do it.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 04:20 PM) They apparently clinched it today. I think the last team to lead the series gets the cup, and the since the Cubs can only tie the series, the Sox locked it up, I believe. This is true. They only had the "last team to win" rule last year because it was the first year.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) I consider Blazing Saddles to be the best comedy ever. I've seen parts of that movie but never sat down and watched it all the way through. Same with History of the World Part 1.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 01:58 PM) All of the Mel Brooks movies are great. Men in Tights is another good one. Although I have never seen any of the actual Robin Hood movies besides the Disney cartoon.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) ALL of those dumbass spoof movies. I've actually lowered my opinion of people I know who have admitted to watching and/or liking these. Spaceballs is one of my favorite movies of all time. A few of the 'Scary Movie' movies are pretty funny too.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 10:45 AM) I've never seen any of the Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th or Halloween movies I watched all the Nightmare on Elm St. movies when I was a kid and found a box set of all of them at a used DVD store a few years ago. I never got around to watching all the Friday the 13th or Halloween movies although I'd seen about half of them. Just last year my middle daughter discovered Jason and Michael Myers so we went out and found all the movies and had a marathon of watching them over about a month.

If we do TV shows that I've never seen or at least gotten into I could be here all day. My list of TV shows that I watch/like would be shorter.

QUOTE (Nunnigan @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 09:57 AM) No one mentioned Twilight? I guess you guys must be fans Twilight Citizen Kane Alien (saw Aliens and Resurrection) All Potter movies Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions Psycho I've actually seen the Twilight movies because my wife likes them. Then my kids won the books in some contest at the local library, so I read them. I needed something to read during lunch at work. My list is similar to the ones already posted. Citizen Kane Any Alien movies Predator (plus any sequels) All Potter movies (I think I saw parts of the first one) Godfather movies Goodfellows Blade Runner No Country for Old Men Pulp Fiction Scarface Fight Club (I watched the first half of it and got bored.) Any of the Pirates of the Carribean Avatar

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 08:31 AM) One of the more impressive post season chokes around. It almost compares to the last team that won 116 and then choked in the playoffs.

What does CPOY stand for? EDIT: Nevermind. I got it. -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) So I take it you're trying to say they tried to trade for him in ST rather than at the deadline without just making it easier and just saying that. Either way, if that's all you are going to take away from what I said then you missed the point. I've read this 3 times and I'm still not sure what you're getting at. Balta said: QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 12:28 PM) The Yankees wouldn't give up Montero for Greinke last offseason. Greinke was traded to the Brewers in the offseason. Plus he's still under contract next year. Where are you getting this half-year rental from?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) Maggs that is pretty damn impressive. I'm speechless. You should be GM. Click on the link to the actual original post...

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 09:44 AM) And I bet lifestyle choice contributes to more than half of those cases, with some simple changes/choices, they'd fall off those charts. I'm not one to talk about "lifestyle" choice, because I tend to eat what I want, however, I also eat relatively healthy most of the time. It's about moderation, and sadly, no matter how much educational material exists, and no matter how much you put it on the minds of people, they'll do what they want to do anyway. The best and only true preventative care is NOT seeing a doctor, but making simple decisions of what you eat/drink and how much. I figured that most of it would be from people with long-term or incurable things like cancer or something like that.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 03:31 PM) I don't typically go for black girls. But the main character from True Jackson, VP and her Asian sidekick catch my fancy. I think both are 18. That's the criteria for me. Long as I can't go to jail, I'm game. They are 18 now, but they were under 18 when they actually taped the show. Does that make a difference?

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 10:50 AM) Why does this remind me of the "everyone gets a trophy" mentality that has pussified sports? I doubt the players take winning this trophy all that seriously. And I know for a fact that receiving a participation trophy isn't nearly as fun or good as receiving a first place trophy.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 02:58 PM) I'm listening to Cowley on the score and he basically just called Gavin Floyd stupid (said he needs a lot of help to do cross-word puzzles, if he couldn't pitch, he'd be taking orders at Windy's). That's probably true of a lot of professional athletes. Their ability to throw/hit/catch/kick a ball pretty much set them for life.

I can't really rank the Pixar movies either. I really like all of them. I have yet to see Up and I tried to watch Ratatouille once but I fell asleep.
