  1. 2007 was when the Cubs fans got really started to get ramped up because it was coming up to the century mark of their WS drought and nobody wanted to see it go to triple digits. Everyone was sure that it was "their year". Then they got swept in the playoffs. 2008 was the century mark and again everyone was sure that it was "their year" Then they got swept in the playoffs. They've been sliding backwards ever since and Cubs fans are finally starting to realize that it's not all that lovable to be a loser.
  2. If somebody was willing to give me $11,000 for a piece of paper I would sell it in an instant. Especially if I need the money to keep a roof over my head and food on the table. Whether I am black, white, orange, purple, etc... shouldn't really matter.

    Pools

We've been thinking about getting a pool like this: They are around $200 at Target, Wal-mart or Toys R us. I'm just wondering how sturdy they are and if I have to worry about my dog putting a hole in the side of it with her claws when she's in the backyard.
  4. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:01 AM) Do people realize the same White Sox organization has averaged 84 wins per season over the past 21 years, and 86 wins under the KW/OG regime? We're basically tied fourth in total wins since 1990 in the AL, behind New York, Boston and Oakland (Cleveland is about even with us, slightly ahead for now). During the OG era, I think we're 5th overall. During the past three "disappointing" years, we've averaged a "disappointing" 85 wins. Sadly, the ALC winners have averaged 92 wins since 1996. The Sox are usually just good enough to finish in second.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 01:10 PM) I'd say it's more likely that MLB does away with the DH than the NL goes to it. It would put too many players out of jobs. I don't know what the average DH makes but I doubt teams will want to keep them around for the same price to be a back-up which is essentially what they would turn into.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 09:09 AM) Apparently there are tickets available for all three Cubs/Sox games at USCF. Wow. It's not like either team is drawing that well individually and they are weeknight games.
  7. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 12:48 PM) There is no Keery Wood or Sammy Soas to hang the flag on. the media is not goign ot cover the nice castro story as he does not hae the wow factor. The cubs are trending down and the attendance is suffering. Another series like last year could go a long way for the White Sox. Also they have lost 8 straight playoff games. 6 in back-to-back years. People got their hopes way, way up when the 100-year anniversary came around. Then the whole "Year 1" thing. The Cubs have simply failed to deliver and the fans are finally getting tired of it.
  8. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 12:12 PM) as using the quote feature takes unnecessary time and is annoying when you have to quote multiple people in the same post. Actually it's really, really easy. Especially when quoting multiple posters. Just click "quote" button for each post as you read them and scroll down. Then click "reply" at the bottom.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 11:07 AM) I don't know where else to post this, but I find it to be a disturbing indictment of our current culture... So, there is this huge wildfire burning in Arizona. Its a monster fire, burned like 400,000 acres so far, and keeps going. Approaching some towns now. CNN interviews a resident of one of the towns and his family, who are packing up a couple pickup trucks with everything they can fit to leave. Not everything fits of course. Their choices? --X-Box makes the cut, same with the dog --What doesn't make the cut and stays to burn: family photos, and the cat So... the X-box, easily replaceable, can go... but the irreplaceable family photos, and the LIVING THING, are left to burn? Seriously? WTF is wrong with people? Article FWIW, cats are far more independent and self-reliant when left on their own compared to dogs.
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 11:35 PM) Your friend is totally right. Most stereotypes have a grain of truth in them. You don't draw 3 million people to a ballpark to watch a team win 60 games by filling it with die-hard fans. At least 1/3 of that number is the people that are just there for the "Wrigley experience".
  11. They have 6 former White Sox players on their roster. 4 are pitchers. Plus they just released Brian Anderson a couple of weeks ago.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 08:02 AM) Or maybe it has something to do with the fact that the last few generations of American children (mine included), have had a soft, easy lifestyle for the most part due to a higher standard of living than the rest of the world and has failed to develop a work ethic. Honestly I agree with you because I see it in my own kids as well. I'm sure part of the blame falls on my wife and myself since we probably spoil them more than we should. They have enough video games, computers, TVs and toys for an entire classroom of kids yet they are always "bored" or want something new. When we suggest that they do some housework to maybe earn some of the things they want they start whining and complaining. When it comes to homework they complain that it's stupid and they'll never use any of it after they get out of school. (It's hard to argue against this since I've never used and since forgotten probably 50% of what I learned in high school.) They want to grow up and have the fabulous lifestyle with lots of money and luxuries without going through the hard work that it takes to get it. I'm not saying all kids are like that but I can see it with mine. To be fair my two oldest do a lot of work around the house even though they complain about it. Another year or so they'll be able to get real jobs and start to learn what real life is all about.
  13. QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) Wait a minute, I see you changed the order, but not the positions. I also cant believe you have Bobby (in CF of all places) hitting 8th with NO protection behind him. I never really paid attention to the fielding positions. I never really saw a discernible difference in arm strength, speed or fielding ability in any of the players. Bobby usually got thrown in at the bottom just because I was always trying to get Clif and Deny on base in front of him so if he did run into one, it wouldn't be a solo shot. All too often he would just hit a weak fly to the outfield though. Sometimes I'd flip him and Jed in the lineup.
  14. Maybe Sony should hire some of these hackers to fix their security system.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 08:07 AM) Being more of a student of the game than a stat-man, the interesting part of that conversation was Frank talking about how the mental part of the game changes when you DH. That podcast is a must-listen. Frank became a full-time DH in 1998 and his stats were pretty bad compared to prior years. But on the other hand Jim Thome wasn't a full-time DH until he came to the Sox in 06 and had a pretty typical year.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 11:47 AM) ? This.
  17. QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 06:05 PM) LF Boyd 2B Kent 1B Barn C Bret RF Denny 3B Clif SS Jed CF Bobby P Skip You had to have Boyd and Kent go back to back. Boyd could drop and bunt and make it to 3rd base with his speed. Then Kent drops a bunt and makes it to second. Then Barn bunts. Then Bret hits a GS guaranteed. After that it was mostly hit or miss. Denny was good with his "earthquake ball" as long as he didn't hit it in the air. Clif was the same way. I hated Jed but Bobby ran into quite a few.
  18. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 11:27 AM) I know a ton of middle class people with 10ish yr old kids freaking out about paying for their children's education. They are worried it's going to cost upwards of $50k a year just for instate tuition, which could easily be half or more of their salary. They want to provide more opportunities than they had and that just won't be the case if tuition keeps going up so much. My kids are probably going to get the same thing my wife, the majority of my friends and I all got for college. A pat on the back, a ride to the local community college and forms for all the loans and grants they can get.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 09:07 AM) Work Same here. I get July 4 and Labor Day off but my wife doesn't. Go figure.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 11:01 AM) Do you work for NASA? Actually, the company I'm at has been around longer than NASA.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) Seriously though, if you watched that game, he looked genuinely touched by the ovation prior to destroying that ball. I bet he enjoyed the ovation he got AFTER he hit it too. The cheering wasn't quite as loud when he it the second one though...
  22. QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 12:58 AM) I don't get "trying to be fair". We're White Sox fans. Hell yes id vote Dunn over Ortiz. White Sox homer or not, there's no good reason to vote in Dunn over anybody right now.
